Chapter 18

Phonetic (Hebrew): va֭yּa'an bּiledּa֥d hashshּuchi֗y vayּo'maֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:

וַ֭יַּעַן בִּלְדַּ֥ד הַשֻּׁחִ֗י וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ad-'a֤nah ׀ tּeshsiym֣un qinetze֣y lemilּi֑yn tּa֝bi֗ynu ve'acha֥r nedabּeֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"How long will you hunt for words? Show some understanding, and then we can talk."

עַד־אָ֤נָה ׀ תְּשִׂימ֣וּן קִנְצֵ֣י לְמִלִּ֑ין תָּ֝בִ֗ינוּ וְאַחַ֥ר נְדַבֵּֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ma֭dּu'a necheshsha֣benu kabּehema֑h ni֝temi֗ynu bּe'eyneykeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Why are we regarded as cattle and considered stupid in your sight?"

מַ֭דּוּעַ נֶחְשַׁ֣בְנוּ כַבְּהֵמָ֑ה נִ֝טְמִ֗ינוּ בְּעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): toֽre֥p napeshsh֗o bּe'a֫pּ֥o ha֭lema'aneka tּe'a֣zab 'a֑retz veye'etּaq-tz֝֗ur mimּeqomֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"You who tear yourself in your anger, is the earth to be abandoned for your sake? Or must the rocks be moved from their place?"

טֹֽרֵ֥ף נַפְשׁ֗וֹ בְּאַ֫פּ֥וֹ הַ֭לְמַעַנְךָ תֵּעָ֣זַב אָ֑רֶץ וְיֶעְתַּק־צ֝֗וּר מִמְּקֹמֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): gּa֤m '֣or reshsha'i֣ym yide'a֑ke veloֽ'-yi֝gּa֗hּ shshebi֣yb 'ishshּֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Indeed, the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out; the flame of his fire stops shining."

גַּ֤ם א֣וֹר רְשָׁעִ֣ים יִדְעָ֑ךְ וְלֹֽא־יִ֝גַּ֗הּ שְׁבִ֣יב אִשּֽׁוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): yo֭'kal bּadּe֣y 'or֑o yo'ka֥l bּa֝dּa֗yv bּek֣or maֽvet׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Disease devours his skin; the firstborn of death consumes his limbs."

יֹ֭אכַל בַּדֵּ֣י עוֹר֑וֹ יֹאכַ֥ל בַּ֝דָּ֗יו בְּכ֣וֹר מָֽוֶת׃
