Chapter 21

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּigּeshsh֗u ra'shshey֙ 'ab֣ot haleviyּi֔m 'el-'ele'azar֙ hakּohe֔n ve'el-yehoshshu֖'a bּin-n֑un ve'el-ra'shshe֛y 'ab֥ot hamּatּ֖ot libene֥y yishsera'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel at Shiloh in Canaan

וַֽיִּגְּשׁ֗וּ רָאשֵׁי֙ אֲב֣וֹת הַלְוִיִּ֔ם אֶל־אֶלְעָזָר֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְאֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ בִּן־נ֑וּן וְאֶל־רָאשֵׁ֛י אֲב֥וֹת הַמַּטּ֖וֹת לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּer֨u 'aleyhe֜m bּeshshilo֗h bּe'e֤retz kּena֨'an֙ le'mo֔r yehvah֙ tziua֣h beyad-moshshe֔h laֽtet-la֥nu 'ari֖ym lashsha֑bet umigereshsheyhe֖n libehemetּeֽnu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)and said to them, "The LORD commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock."

וַיְדַבְּר֨וּ אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם בְּשִׁלֹ֗ה בְּאֶ֤רֶץ כְּנַ֨עַן֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר יְהוָה֙ צִוָּ֣ה בְיַד־מֹשֶׁ֔ה לָֽתֶת־לָ֥נוּ עָרִ֖ים לָשָׁ֑בֶת וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶ֖ן לִבְהֶמְתֵּֽנוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitּen֨u beney-yishsera'e֧l laleviyּi֛m minּachalata֖m 'el-pּi֣y yehva֑h 'et-he'ari֥ym ha'e֖lּeh ve'et-migereshsheyheֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So, as the LORD had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites [1] the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance:

וַיִּתְּנ֨וּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֧ל לַלְוִיִּ֛ם מִנַּחֲלָתָ֖ם אֶל־פִּ֣י יְהוָ֑ה אֶת־הֶעָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה וְאֶת־מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּetze֥ hagּora֖l lemishshepּecho֣t haqּehati֑y vayehi֡y libeney֩ 'aharo֨n hakּohe֜n min-haleviyּi֗m mimּatּe֣h ye֠hudah umimּatּe֨h hashshּime'oni֜y umimּatּe֤h bineyamin֙ bּagּora֔l 'ari֖ym shshelo֥shsh 'eshsereֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The first lot came out for the Kohathites, according to their clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.

וַיֵּצֵ֥א הַגּוֹרָ֖ל לְמִשְׁפְּחֹ֣ת הַקְּהָתִ֑י וַיְהִ֡י לִבְנֵי֩ אַהֲרֹ֨ן הַכֹּהֵ֜ן מִן־הַלְוִיִּ֗ם מִמַּטֵּ֣ה יְ֠הוּדָה וּמִמַּטֵּ֨ה הַשִּׁמְעֹנִ֜י וּמִמַּטֵּ֤ה בִנְיָמִן֙ בַּגּוֹרָ֔ל עָרִ֖ים שְׁלֹ֥שׁ עֶשְׂרֵֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): velibene֨y qeha֜t hanּotari֗ym mimּishshepּecho֣t matּeֽh-'e֠perayim uֽmimּatּeh-da֞n umechatzi֨y matּe֧h menashshּe֛h bּagּora֖l 'ari֥ym 'aֽshser׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.

וְלִבְנֵ֨י קְהָ֜ת הַנּוֹתָרִ֗ים מִמִּשְׁפְּחֹ֣ת מַטֵּֽה־אֶ֠פְרַיִם וּֽמִמַּטֵּה־דָ֞ן וּמֵחֲצִ֨י מַטֵּ֧ה מְנַשֶּׁ֛ה בַּגּוֹרָ֖ל עָרִ֥ים עָֽשֶׂר׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): velibene֣y gereshsh֗on mimּishshepּech֣ot matּeֽh-yishsּashka֣r umimּatּeֽh-'a֠shsher umimּatּe֨h napetּali֜y u֠mechatziy matּe֨h menashshּe֤h babּashshan֙ bּagּora֔l 'ari֖ym shshelo֥shsh 'eshsereֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.

וְלִבְנֵ֣י גֵרְשׁ֗וֹן מִמִּשְׁפְּח֣וֹת מַטֵּֽה־יִשָּׂשכָ֣ר וּמִמַּטֵּֽה־אָ֠שֵׁר וּמִמַּטֵּ֨ה נַפְתָּלִ֜י וּ֠מֵחֲצִי מַטֵּ֨ה מְנַשֶּׁ֤ה בַבָּשָׁן֙ בַּגּוֹרָ֔ל עָרִ֖ים שְׁלֹ֥שׁ עֶשְׂרֵֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): libene֨y merari֜y lemishshepּechota֗m mimּatּe֨h re'ube֤n umimּatּeh-gad֙ umimּatּe֣h zebulu֔n 'ari֖ym shshetּe֥ym 'eshsereֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The descendants of Merari, according to their clans, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.

לִבְנֵ֨י מְרָרִ֜י לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֗ם מִמַּטֵּ֨ה רְאוּבֵ֤ן וּמִמַּטֵּה־גָד֙ וּמִמַּטֵּ֣ה זְבוּלֻ֔ן עָרִ֖ים שְׁתֵּ֥ים עֶשְׂרֵֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitּen֤u beneֽy-yishsera'el֙ laleviyּi֔m 'et-he'ari֥ym ha'e֖lּeh ve'et-migereshsheyhe֑n kּa'ashshe֨r tziua֧h yehva֛h bּeyad-moshshe֖h bּagּoraֽl׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.

וַיִּתְּנ֤וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לַלְוִיִּ֔ם אֶת־הֶעָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה וְאֶת־מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶ֑ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה בְּיַד־מֹשֶׁ֖ה בַּגּוֹרָֽל׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽayּitּen֗u mimּatּeh֙ bּene֣y yehuda֔h umimּatּe֖h bּene֣y shshime'֑on 'e֚t heֽ'ari֣ym ha'e֔lּeh 'ashsher-yiqera֥ 'etehe֖n bּeshsheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name

וַֽיִּתְּנ֗וּ מִמַּטֵּה֙ בְּנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה וּמִמַּטֵּ֖ה בְּנֵ֣י שִׁמְע֑וֹן אֵ֚ת הֶֽעָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה אֲשֶׁר־יִקְרָ֥א אֶתְהֶ֖ן בְּשֵֽׁם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽayehiy֙ libene֣y 'aharo֔n mimּishshepּech֥ot haqּehati֖y mibּene֣y levi֑y kּi֥y lahe֛m haya֥h hagּora֖l riy'shshonaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)(these were for the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them):

וַֽיְהִי֙ לִבְנֵ֣י אַהֲרֹ֔ן מִמִּשְׁפְּח֥וֹת הַקְּהָתִ֖י מִבְּנֵ֣י לֵוִ֑י כִּ֥י לָהֶ֛ם הָיָ֥ה הַגּוֹרָ֖ל רִיאשֹׁנָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitּen֨u lahe֜m 'et-qireyat֩ 'arebּa֨ 'abi֧y haֽ'an֛oq hi֥y cheber֖on bּeha֣r yehuda֑h ve'et-migerashshe֖ha sebiyboteֽyha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)They gave them Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)

וַיִּתְּנ֨וּ לָהֶ֜ם אֶת־קִרְיַת֩ אַרְבַּ֨ע אֲבִ֧י הָֽעֲנ֛וֹק הִ֥יא חֶבְר֖וֹן בְּהַ֣ר יְהוּדָ֑ה וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֖הָ סְבִיבֹתֶֽיהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-shsede֥h ha'i֖yr ve'et-chatzere֑yha naֽten֛u lekale֥b bּen-yepunּe֖h bּa'achuzּatֽo׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)But the fields and villages around the city they had given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.

וְאֶת־שְׂדֵ֥ה הָעִ֖יר וְאֶת־חֲצֵרֶ֑יהָ נָֽתְנ֛וּ לְכָלֵ֥ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֖ה בַּאֲחֻזָּתֽוֹ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): velibene֣y ׀ 'aharo֣n hakּohe֗n naֽtenu֙ 'et-'iyr֙ miqela֣t harotze֔cha 'et-cheber֖on ve'et-migerashshe֑ha ve'et-libena֖h ve'et-migerashsheֽha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Libnah,

וְלִבְנֵ֣י ׀ אַהֲרֹ֣ן הַכֹּהֵ֗ן נָֽתְנוּ֙ אֶת־עִיר֙ מִקְלַ֣ט הָרֹצֵ֔חַ אֶת־חֶבְר֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ וְאֶת־לִבְנָ֖ה וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-yatּir֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha ve'et-'eshshetּemo֖'a ve'et-migerashsheֽha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Jattir, Eshtemoa,

וְאֶת־יַתִּר֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ וְאֶת־אֶשְׁתְּמֹ֖עַ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-cholon֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha ve'et-dּebi֖r ve'et-migerashsheֽha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Holon, Debir,

וְאֶת־חֹלֹן֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ וְאֶת־דְּבִ֖ר וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-'a֣yin ve'et-migerashshe֗ha ve'et-yutּah֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha 'et-bּe֥yt shshe֖meshsh ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'ari֣ym tּe֔shsha me'e֕t shshene֥y hashshּebati֖ym ha'eֽlּeh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Ain, Juttah and Beth Shemesh, together with their pasturelands, nine towns from these two tribes.

וְאֶת־עַ֣יִן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֗הָ וְאֶת־יֻטָּה֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ אֶת־בֵּ֥ית שֶׁ֖מֶשׁ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ עָרִ֣ים תֵּ֔שַׁע מֵאֵ֕ת שְׁנֵ֥י הַשְּׁבָטִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): umimּatּe֣h bineyami֔n 'et-gּibe'֖on ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'et-gּe֖ba ve'et-migerashsheֽha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them Gibeon, Geba,

וּמִמַּטֵּ֣ה בִנְיָמִ֔ן אֶת־גִּבְע֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ אֶת־גֶּ֖בַע וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): et-'anatot֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha ve'et-'alem֖on ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'ari֖ym 'arebּaֽ'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Anathoth and Almon, together with their pasturelands, four towns.

אֶת־עֲנָתוֹת֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ וְאֶת־עַלְמ֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ עָרִ֖ים אַרְבַּֽע׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-'are֥y beneֽy-'aharo֖n hakּoֽhani֑ym shsheloshsh-'eshsere֥h 'ari֖ym umigereshsheyheֽn׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The total number of towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.

כָּל־עָרֵ֥י בְנֵֽי־אַהֲרֹ֖ן הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֑ים שְׁלֹשׁ־עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה עָרִ֖ים וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽן׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ulemishshepּech֤ot bּeneֽy-qehat֙ haleviyּi֔m hanּotari֖ym mibּene֣y qeha֑t vaֽyehiy֙ 'are֣y gֽorala֔m mimּatּe֖h 'eperaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim:

וּלְמִשְׁפְּח֤וֹת בְּנֵֽי־קְהָת֙ הַלְוִיִּ֔ם הַנּוֹתָרִ֖ים מִבְּנֵ֣י קְהָ֑ת וַֽיְהִי֙ עָרֵ֣י גֽוֹרָלָ֔ם מִמַּטֵּ֖ה אֶפְרָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitּen֨u lahe֜m 'et-'i֨yr miqela֧t harotze֛cha 'et-shsheke֥m ve'et-migerashshe֖ha bּeha֣r 'epera֑yim ve'et-gּe֖zer ve'et-migerashsheֽha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Gezer,

וַיִּתְּנ֨וּ לָהֶ֜ם אֶת־עִ֨יר מִקְלַ֧ט הָרֹצֵ֛חַ אֶת־שְׁכֶ֥ם וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֖הָ בְּהַ֣ר אֶפְרָ֑יִם וְאֶת־גֶּ֖זֶר וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-qibetza֨yim֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha ve'et-bּe֥yt choro֖n ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'ari֖ym 'arebּaֽ'׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Kibzaim and Beth Horon, together with their pasturelands, four towns.

וְאֶת־קִבְצַ֨יִם֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ וְאֶת־בֵּ֥ית חוֹרֹ֖ן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ עָרִ֖ים אַרְבַּֽע׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): umimּa֨tּeh-da֔n 'eֽt-'eletּeqe֖ ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'eֽt-gּibּet֖on ve'et-migerashsheֽha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Also from the tribe of Dan they were given Eltekeh, Gibbethon,

וּמִמַּ֨טֵּה־דָ֔ן אֶֽת־אֶלְתְּקֵ֖א וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ אֶֽת־גִּבְּת֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): et-'ayּalon֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha 'et-gּat-rimּ֖on ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'ari֖ym 'arebּaֽ'׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands, four towns.

אֶת־אַיָּלוֹן֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ אֶת־גַּת־רִמּ֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ עָרִ֖ים אַרְבַּֽע׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): umiֽmּachatziyt֙ matּe֣h menashshּe֔h 'et-tּa'enake֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha ve'et-gּat-rimּ֖on ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'ari֖ym shshetּaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)From half the tribe of Manasseh they were given Taanach and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands, two towns.

וּמִֽמַּחֲצִית֙ מַטֵּ֣ה מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה אֶת־תַּעְנַךְ֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ וְאֶת־גַּת־רִמּ֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ עָרִ֖ים שְׁתָּֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-'ari֥ym 'e֖shser umigereshsheyhe֑n lemishshepּech֥ot bּeneֽy-qeha֖t hanּotariֽym׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)All these ten towns and their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.

כָּל־עָרִ֥ים עֶ֖שֶׂר וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶ֑ן לְמִשְׁפְּח֥וֹת בְּנֵֽי־קְהָ֖ת הַנּוֹתָרִֽים׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): velibene֣y gereshshon֮ mimּishshepּecho֣t haleviyּim֒ mechatzi֞y matּe֣h menashshּe֗h 'et-'iyr֙ miqela֣t harotze֔cha 'et-glvn gּola֤n bּabּashshan֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha ve'eֽt-bּe'eshshetּera֖h ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'ari֖ym shshetּaֽyim׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The Gershonite clans of the Levites were given: from half the tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Beeshterah, together with their pasturelands, two towns;

וְלִבְנֵ֣י גֵרְשׁוֹן֮ מִמִּשְׁפְּחֹ֣ת הַלְוִיִּם֒ מֵחֲצִ֞י מַטֵּ֣ה מְנַשֶּׁ֗ה אֶת־עִיר֙ מִקְלַ֣ט הָרֹצֵ֔חַ אֶת־גלון גּוֹלָ֤ן בַּבָּשָׁן֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ וְאֶֽת־בְּעֶשְׁתְּרָ֖ה וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ עָרִ֖ים שְׁתָּֽיִם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): umimּatּe֣h yishsּashka֔r 'et-qishshey֖on ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'et-dּaֽbera֖t ve'et-migerashsheֽha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion, Daberath,

וּמִמַּטֵּ֣ה יִשָּׂשכָ֔ר אֶת־קִשְׁי֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ אֶת־דָּֽבְרַ֖ת וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): et-yaremut֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha 'et-'e֥yn gּanּi֖ym ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'ari֖ym 'arebּaֽ'׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Jarmuth and En Gannim, together with their pasturelands, four towns;

אֶת־יַרְמוּת֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ אֶת־עֵ֥ין גַּנִּ֖ים וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ עָרִ֖ים אַרְבַּֽע׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): umimּatּe֣h 'ashshe֔r 'et-mishshe'a֖l ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'et-'abedּ֖on ve'et-migerashsheֽha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)from the tribe of Asher, Mishal, Abdon,

וּמִמַּטֵּ֣ה אָשֵׁ֔ר אֶת־מִשְׁאָ֖ל וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ אֶת־עַבְדּ֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): et-cheleqat֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha ve'et-recho֖b ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'ari֖ym 'arebּaֽ'׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Helkath and Rehob, together with their pasturelands, four towns;

אֶת־חֶלְקָת֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ וְאֶת־רְחֹ֖ב וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ עָרִ֖ים אַרְבַּֽע׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): umimּatּe֨h napetּali֜y 'et-'i֣yr ׀ miqela֣t haֽrotze֗cha 'et-qe֨deshsh bּagּali֤yl ve'et-migerashshe֨ha֙ ve'et-chamּo֥t dּo'r֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha ve'et-qaretּa֖n ve'et-migerashshe֑ha 'ari֖ym shshaloֽshsh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasturelands, three towns.

וּמִמַּטֵּ֨ה נַפְתָּלִ֜י אֶת־עִ֣יר ׀ מִקְלַ֣ט הָֽרֹצֵ֗חַ אֶת־קֶ֨דֶשׁ בַּגָּלִ֤יל וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֨הָ֙ וְאֶת־חַמֹּ֥ת דֹּאר֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ וְאֶת־קַרְתָּ֖ן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ עָרִ֖ים שָׁלֹֽשׁ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-'are֥y hagּereshshunּi֖y lemishshepּechota֑m shsheloshsh-'eshsere֥h 'i֖yr umigereshsheyheֽn׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim,

וּמִמַּטֵּה־גָ֗ד אֶת־עִיר֙ מִקְלַ֣ט הָרֹצֵ֔חַ אֶת־רָמֹ֥ת בַּגִּלְעָ֖ד וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ וְאֶֽת־מַחֲנַ֖יִם וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): et-cheshshebּon֙ ve'et-migerashshe֔ha 'et-ya'eze֖r ve'et-migerashshe֑ha kּal-'ari֖ym 'arebּaֽ'׃

אֶת־חֶשְׁבּוֹן֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔הָ אֶת־יַעְזֵ֖ר וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑הָ כָּל־עָרִ֖ים אַרְבַּֽע׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-he֨'ari֜ym libene֤y merariy֙ lemishshepּechota֔m hanּotari֖ym mimּishshepּech֣ot haleviyּi֑m vayehiy֙ gּorala֔m 'ari֖ym shshetּe֥ym 'eshsereֽh׃

כָּל־הֶ֨עָרִ֜ים לִבְנֵ֤י מְרָרִי֙ לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֔ם הַנּוֹתָרִ֖ים מִמִּשְׁפְּח֣וֹת הַלְוִיִּ֑ם וַיְהִי֙ גּוֹרָלָ֔ם עָרִ֖ים שְׁתֵּ֥ים עֶשְׂרֵֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֚l 'are֣y haleviyּi֔m bּet֖oke 'achuzּa֣t bּeneֽy-yishsera'e֑l 'ari֛ym 'arebּa'i֥ym ushshemone֖h umigereshsheyheֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands.

כֹּ֚ל עָרֵ֣י הַלְוִיִּ֔ם בְּת֖וֹךְ אֲחֻזַּ֣ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל עָרִ֛ים אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנֶ֖ה וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): tּiֽheye֨ynah֙ he'ari֣ym ha'e֔lּeh 'i֣yr 'i֔yr umigerashshe֖yha sebiybote֑yha kּe֖n lekal-he'ari֥ym ha'eֽlּeh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Each of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.

תִּֽהְיֶ֨ינָה֙ הֶעָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה עִ֣יר עִ֔יר וּמִגְרָשֶׁ֖יהָ סְבִיבֹתֶ֑יהָ כֵּ֖ן לְכָל־הֶעָרִ֥ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitּe֤n yehvah֙ leyishsera'e֔l 'et-kּal-ha'a֔retz 'ashshe֥r nishshebּa֖ late֣t la'abota֑m vayּirashsh֖uha vayּe֥shshebu baֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.

וַיִּתֵּ֤ן יְהוָה֙ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת־כָּל־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֖ע לָתֵ֣ת לַאֲבוֹתָ֑ם וַיִּרָשׁ֖וּהָ וַיֵּ֥שְׁבוּ בָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨nach yehva֤h lahem֙ misּabi֔yb kּeko֥l 'ashsher-nishshebּa֖ la'abota֑m velo'-'a֨mad 'i֤yshsh bּipeneyhem֙ mikּal-'o֣yebeyhe֔m 'e֚t kּal-'o֣yebeyhe֔m nata֥n yehva֖h bּeyadaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the LORD gave all their enemies into their hands.

וַיָּ֨נַח יְהוָ֤ה לָהֶם֙ מִסָּבִ֔יב כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֖ע לַאֲבוֹתָ֑ם וְלֹא־עָ֨מַד אִ֤ישׁ בִּפְנֵיהֶם֙ מִכָּל־אֹ֣יְבֵיהֶ֔ם אֵ֚ת כָּל־אֹ֣יְבֵיהֶ֔ם נָתַ֥ן יְהוָ֖ה בְּיָדָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): loֽ'-napa֣l dּaba֔r mikּol֙ hadּaba֣r hatּ֔ob 'ashsher-dּibּe֥r yehva֖h 'el-bּe֣yt yishsera'e֑l hakּo֖l bּaֽ'׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfiled.

לֹֽא־נָפַ֣ל דָּבָ֔ר מִכֹּל֙ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַטּ֔וֹב אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הַכֹּ֖ל בָּֽא׃פ
