Chapter 6

Phonetic (Hebrew): viֽyriycho֙ soge֣ret umesugּe֔ret mipּene֖y bּene֣y yishsera'e֑l 'e֥yn yotze֖ ve'e֥yn bּaֽ'׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Now the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in.

וִֽירִיחוֹ֙ סֹגֶ֣רֶת וּמְסֻגֶּ֔רֶת מִפְּנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֵ֥ין יוֹצֵ֖א וְאֵ֥ין בָּֽא׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ 'el-yehoshshu֔'a re'eh֙ nata֣tּiy beyaֽdeka֔ 'et-yeriych֖o ve'et-malekּa֑hּ gּibּore֖y hechaֽyil׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD said to Joshua, "See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ רְאֵה֙ נָתַ֣תִּי בְיָֽדְךָ֔ אֶת־יְרִיח֖וֹ וְאֶת־מַלְכָּ֑הּ גִּבּוֹרֵ֖י הֶחָֽיִל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vesabּote֣m 'et-ha'i֗yr kּo֚l 'aneshshe֣y hamּilechama֔h haqּe֥yp 'et-ha'i֖yr pּa֣'am 'echa֑t kּo֥h ta'ashse֖h shshe֥shshet yamiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days.

וְסַבֹּתֶ֣ם אֶת־הָעִ֗יר כֹּ֚ל אַנְשֵׁ֣י הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה הַקֵּ֥יף אֶת־הָעִ֖יר פַּ֣עַם אֶחָ֑ת כֹּ֥ה תַעֲשֶׂ֖ה שֵׁ֥שֶׁת יָמִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshibe'a֣h kohani֡ym yishse'u֩ shshibe'a֨h shshoper֤ot hayּֽobeliym֙ lipene֣y ha'ar֔on ubayּom֙ hashshּebiy'i֔y tּaso֥bּu 'et-ha'i֖yr shshe֣ba pּe'ami֑ym vehakּo֣hani֔ym yiteqe'֖u bּashshּoparֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns [1] in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.

וְשִׁבְעָ֣ה כֹהֲנִ֡ים יִשְׂאוּ֩ שִׁבְעָ֨ה שׁוֹפְר֤וֹת הַיּֽוֹבְלִים֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הָאָר֔וֹן וּבַיּוֹם֙ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י תָּסֹ֥בּוּ אֶת־הָעִ֖יר שֶׁ֣בַע פְּעָמִ֑ים וְהַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים יִתְקְע֖וּ בַּשּׁוֹפָרֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֞h bּimeshsho֣ke ׀ bּeqe֣ren hayּobe֗l bshm'km kּeshshame'akem֙ 'et-q֣ol hashshּopa֔r yari֥y'u kal-ha'a֖m tּeru'a֣h gedola֑h vena֨pela֜h choma֤t ha'iyr֙ tּachetּe֔yha ve'al֥u ha'a֖m 'i֥yshsh negedּֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have all the people give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, everyone straight in."

וְהָיָ֞ה בִּמְשֹׁ֣ךְ ׀ בְּקֶ֣רֶן הַיּוֹבֵ֗ל בשמעכם כְּשָׁמְעֲכֶם֙ אֶת־ק֣וֹל הַשּׁוֹפָ֔ר יָרִ֥יעוּ כָל־הָעָ֖ם תְּרוּעָ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֑ה וְנָ֨פְלָ֜ה חוֹמַ֤ת הָעִיר֙ תַּחְתֶּ֔יהָ וְעָל֥וּ הָעָ֖ם אִ֥ישׁ נֶגְדּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqera֞ yehoshshu֤'a bּin-nun֙ 'el-hakּo֣hani֔ym vayּo֣'mer 'alehe֔m shse'֖u 'et-'ar֣on habּeri֑yt veshshibe'a֣h koֽhani֗ym yishse'u֙ shshibe'a֤h shshֽoperot֙ yobeli֔ym lipene֖y 'ar֥on yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, "Take up the ark of the covenant of the LORD and have seven priests carry trumpets in front of it."

וַיִּקְרָ֞א יְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַ בִּן־נוּן֙ אֶל־הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֔ם שְׂא֖וּ אֶת־אֲר֣וֹן הַבְּרִ֑ית וְשִׁבְעָ֣ה כֹֽהֲנִ֗ים יִשְׂאוּ֙ שִׁבְעָ֤ה שֽׁוֹפְרוֹת֙ יוֹבְלִ֔ים לִפְנֵ֖י אֲר֥וֹן יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vy'mrv vayּo֨'mer֙ 'el-ha'a֔m 'iber֖u veso֣bּu 'et-ha'i֑yr vehe֣chal֔utz ya'abo֕r lipene֖y 'ar֥on yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And he ordered the army, "Advance! March around the city, with an armed guard going ahead of the ark of the LORD."

ויאמרו וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אֶל־הָעָ֔ם עִבְר֖וּ וְסֹ֣בּוּ אֶת־הָעִ֑יר וְהֶ֣חָל֔וּץ יַעֲבֹ֕ר לִפְנֵ֖י אֲר֥וֹן יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֗y kּe'emo֣r yehoshshu'a֮ 'el-ha'am֒ veshshibe'a֣h hakּohani֡ym noshse'iym֩ shshibe'a֨h shshoper֤ot hayּֽobeliym֙ lipene֣y yehva֔h 'aber֕u vetaqe'֖u bּashshּֽopar֑ot vֽa'aron֙ bּeri֣yt yehva֔h hole֖ke 'achareyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the LORD went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the LORD’s covenant followed them.

וַיְהִ֗י כֶּאֱמֹ֣ר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ֮ אֶל־הָעָם֒ וְשִׁבְעָ֣ה הַכֹּהֲנִ֡ים נֹשְׂאִים֩ שִׁבְעָ֨ה שׁוֹפְר֤וֹת הַיּֽוֹבְלִים֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה עָבְר֕וּ וְתָקְע֖וּ בַּשּֽׁוֹפָר֑וֹת וַֽאֲרוֹן֙ בְּרִ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה הֹלֵ֖ךְ אַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehechal֣utz hole֔ke lipeney֙ hakּo֣hani֔ym tq'v tּoqe'e֖y hashshּֽopar֑ot vehaֽme'asּe֗p holeke֙ 'achare֣y ha'ar֔on hal֖oke vetaq֥o'a bּashshּoparֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The armed guard marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard followed the ark. All this time the trumpets were sounding.

וְהֶחָל֣וּץ הֹלֵ֔ךְ לִפְנֵי֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים תקעו תֹּקְעֵ֖י הַשּֽׁוֹפָר֑וֹת וְהַֽמְאַסֵּ֗ף הֹלֵךְ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י הָאָר֔וֹן הָל֖וֹךְ וְתָק֥וֹעַ בַּשּׁוֹפָרֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-ha'am֩ tziua֨h yehoshshu֜'a le'mo֗r lo֤ tari֨y'u֙ veloֽ'-tashshemi֣y'u 'et-qoleke֔m velo'-yetze֥ mipּiyke֖m dּaba֑r 'a֠d y֣om 'ameri֧y 'aleyke֛m hari֖y'u vahariy'oteֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)But Joshua had commanded the army, "Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!"

וְאֶת־הָעָם֩ צִוָּ֨ה יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ לֵאמֹ֗ר לֹ֤א תָרִ֨יעוּ֙ וְלֹֽא־תַשְׁמִ֣יעוּ אֶת־קוֹלְכֶ֔ם וְלֹא־יֵצֵ֥א מִפִּיכֶ֖ם דָּבָ֑ר עַ֠ד י֣וֹם אָמְרִ֧י אֲלֵיכֶ֛ם הָרִ֖יעוּ וַהֲרִיעֹתֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּasּe֤b 'aron-yehvah֙ 'et-ha'i֔yr haqּe֖p pּa֣'am 'echa֑t vayּabo֨'u֙ haֽmּachane֔h vayּali֖ynu bּaֽmּachaneֽh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)So he had the ark of the LORD carried around the city, circling it once. Then the army returned to camp and spent the night there.

וַיַּסֵּ֤ב אֲרוֹן־יְהוָה֙ אֶת־הָעִ֔יר הַקֵּ֖ף פַּ֣עַם אֶחָ֑ת וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה וַיָּלִ֖ינוּ בַּֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּashshekּe֥m yehoshshu֖'a bּabּo֑qer vayּishse'֥u hakּohani֖ym 'et-'ar֥on yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Joshua got up early the next morning and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֥ם יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ בַּבֹּ֑קֶר וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים אֶת־אֲר֥וֹן יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshibe'a֣h hakּohani֡ym noshse'iym֩ shshibe'a֨h shshoper֜ot hayּobeli֗ym lipeney֙ 'ar֣on yehva֔h holeki֣ym hal֔oke vetaqe'֖u bּashshּopar֑ot vehechalutz֙ hole֣ke lipeneyhe֔m vehֽame'asּe֗p holeke֙ 'ֽacharey֙ 'ar֣on yehva֔h hvlk hal֖oke vetaq֥o'a bּashshּoparֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The seven priests carrying the seven trumpets went forward, marching before the ark of the LORD and blowing the trumpets. The armed men went ahead of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, while the trumpets kept sounding.

וְשִׁבְעָ֣ה הַכֹּהֲנִ֡ים נֹשְׂאִים֩ שִׁבְעָ֨ה שׁוֹפְר֜וֹת הַיֹּבְלִ֗ים לִפְנֵי֙ אֲר֣וֹן יְהוָ֔ה הֹלְכִ֣ים הָל֔וֹךְ וְתָקְע֖וּ בַּשּׁוֹפָר֑וֹת וְהֶחָלוּץ֙ הֹלֵ֣ךְ לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם וְהַֽמְאַסֵּ֗ף הֹלֵךְ֙ אַֽחֲרֵי֙ אֲר֣וֹן יְהוָ֔ה הולך הָל֖וֹךְ וְתָק֥וֹעַ בַּשּׁוֹפָרֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּaso֨bּu 'et-ha'i֜yr bּayּ֤om hashshּeniy֙ pּa֣'am 'acha֔t vayּashshu֖bu haֽmּachane֑h kּo֥h 'ashs֖u shshe֥shshet yamiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So on the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days.

וַיָּסֹ֨בּוּ אֶת־הָעִ֜יר בַּיּ֤וֹם הַשֵּׁנִי֙ פַּ֣עַם אַחַ֔ת וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה כֹּ֥ה עָשׂ֖וּ שֵׁ֥שֶׁת יָמִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y ׀ bּayּ֣om hashshּebiy'i֗y vayּashshekּi֨mu֙ kּa'al֣ot hashshּa֔char vayּaso֧bּu 'et-ha'i֛yr kּamּishshepּa֥t hazּe֖h shshe֣ba pּe'ami֑ym ra֚q bּayּ֣om hah֔u sabeb֥u 'et-ha'i֖yr shshe֥ba pּe'amiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times.

וַיְהִ֣י ׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י וַיַּשְׁכִּ֨מוּ֙ כַּעֲל֣וֹת הַשַּׁ֔חַר וַיָּסֹ֧בּוּ אֶת־הָעִ֛יר כַּמִּשְׁפָּ֥ט הַזֶּ֖ה שֶׁ֣בַע פְּעָמִ֑ים רַ֚ק בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא סָבְב֥וּ אֶת־הָעִ֖יר שֶׁ֥בַע פְּעָמִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehiy֙ bּapּa֣'am hashshּebiy'i֔yt tּaqe'֥u hakּohani֖ym bּashshּopar֑ot vayּo֨'mer yehoshshu֤'a 'el-ha'am֙ hari֔y'u kּiֽy-nata֧n yehva֛h lake֖m 'et-ha'iֽyr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the army, "Shout! For the LORD has given you the city!

וַיְהִי֙ בַּפַּ֣עַם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔ית תָּקְע֥וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים בַּשּׁוֹפָר֑וֹת וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַ אֶל־הָעָם֙ הָרִ֔יעוּ כִּֽי־נָתַ֧ן יְהוָ֛ה לָכֶ֖ם אֶת־הָעִֽיר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehayeta֨h ha'i֥yr che֛rem hi֥y vekal-'ashsher-bּa֖hּ laֽyhva֑h raq֩ racha֨b hazּona֜h tּiֽcheye֗h hi֚y vekal-'ashshe֣r 'itּa֣hּ bּabּa֔yit kּi֣y hechebּe'a֔tah 'et-hamּale'aki֖ym 'ashshe֥r shshalaֽchenu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The city and all that is in it are to be devoted to the LORD. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid the spies we sent.

וְהָיְתָ֨ה הָעִ֥יר חֵ֛רֶם הִ֥יא וְכָל־אֲשֶׁר־בָּ֖הּ לַֽיהוָ֑ה רַק֩ רָחָ֨ב הַזּוֹנָ֜ה תִּֽחְיֶ֗ה הִ֚יא וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתָּ֣הּ בַּבַּ֔יִת כִּ֣י הֶחְבְּאַ֔תָה אֶת־הַמַּלְאָכִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁלָֽחְנוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veraq-'atּem֙ shshimer֣u min-hache֔rem pּeֽn-tּachari֖ymu uleqachetּe֣m min-hache֑rem veshsametּe֞m 'et-machane֤h yishsera'el֙ leche֔rem va'akaretּe֖m 'otֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)But keep away from the devoted things, so that you will not bring about your own destruction by taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel liable to destruction and bring trouble on it.

וְרַק־אַתֶּם֙ שִׁמְר֣וּ מִן־הַחֵ֔רֶם פֶּֽן־תַּחֲרִ֖ימוּ וּלְקַחְתֶּ֣ם מִן־הַחֵ֑רֶם וְשַׂמְתֶּ֞ם אֶת־מַחֲנֵ֤ה יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לְחֵ֔רֶם וַעֲכַרְתֶּ֖ם אוֹתֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veko֣l ׀ kּe֣sep vezaha֗b ukele֤y necho֨shshet֙ ubareze֔l qo֥deshsh h֖u laֽyhva֑h 'otza֥r yehva֖h yabֽo'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the LORD and must go into his treasury."

וְכֹ֣ל ׀ כֶּ֣סֶף וְזָהָ֗ב וּכְלֵ֤י נְחֹ֨שֶׁת֙ וּבַרְזֶ֔ל קֹ֥דֶשׁ ה֖וּא לַֽיהוָ֑ה אוֹצַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה יָבֽוֹא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣ra ha'a֔m vaֽyּiteqe'֖u bּashshּoֽpar֑ot vayehiy֩ kishshemo֨'a ha'a֜m 'et-q֣ol hashshּopa֗r vayּari֤y'u ha'am֙ tּeru'a֣h gedola֔h vatּipּo֨l haֽchoma֜h tּachetּe֗yha vayּa֨'al ha'a֤m ha'i֨yrah֙ 'i֣yshsh negedּ֔o vaֽyּilekּed֖u 'et-ha'iֽyr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.

וַיָּ֣רַע הָעָ֔ם וַֽיִּתְקְע֖וּ בַּשֹּֽׁפָר֑וֹת וַיְהִי֩ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ הָעָ֜ם אֶת־ק֣וֹל הַשּׁוֹפָ֗ר וַיָּרִ֤יעוּ הָעָם֙ תְּרוּעָ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֔ה וַתִּפֹּ֨ל הַֽחוֹמָ֜ה תַּחְתֶּ֗יהָ וַיַּ֨עַל הָעָ֤ם הָעִ֨ירָה֙ אִ֣ישׁ נֶגְדּ֔וֹ וַֽיִּלְכְּד֖וּ אֶת־הָעִֽיר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּachari֨ymu֙ 'et-kּal-'ashshe֣r bּa'i֔yr me'iyshsh֙ ve'ad-'ishshּa֔h minּa֖'ar ve'ad-zaqe֑n ve'a֨d shsh֥or vashse֛h vacham֖or lepiy-chaֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it, men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.

וַֽיַּחֲרִ֨ימוּ֙ אֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּעִ֔יר מֵאִישׁ֙ וְעַד־אִשָּׁ֔ה מִנַּ֖עַר וְעַד־זָקֵ֑ן וְעַ֨ד שׁ֥וֹר וָשֶׂ֛ה וַחֲמ֖וֹר לְפִי־חָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): velishshena֨yim ha'anashshi֜ym haֽmeragּeli֤ym 'et-ha'a֨retz֙ 'ama֣r yehoshshu֔'a bּo֖'u bּeyt-ha'ishshּa֣h hazּona֑h vehotzi֨y'u mishshּa֤m 'et-haֽ'ishshּah֙ ve'et-kּal-'ashsher-la֔hּ kּa'ashshe֥r nishshebּa'etּe֖m laֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, "Go into the prostitute’s house and bring her out and all who belong to her, in accordance with your oath to her."

וְלִשְׁנַ֨יִם הָאֲנָשִׁ֜ים הַֽמְרַגְּלִ֤ים אֶת־הָאָ֨רֶץ֙ אָמַ֣ר יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ בֹּ֖אוּ בֵּית־הָאִשָּׁ֣ה הַזּוֹנָ֑ה וְהוֹצִ֨יאוּ מִשָּׁ֤ם אֶת־הָֽאִשָּׁה֙ וְאֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לָ֔הּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּעְתֶּ֖ם לָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֜'u hanּe'ari֣ym haֽmeragּeli֗ym vayּotzi֡y'u 'et-ra֠chab ve'et-'abi֨yha ve'et-'imּa֤hּ ve'et-'ache֨yha֙ ve'et-kּal-'ashsher-la֔hּ ve'e֥t kּal-mishshepּechote֖yha hotzi֑y'u vayּa֨nּiych֔um mich֖utz lemachane֥h yishsera'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So the young men who had spied went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother, her brothers and sisters and all who belonged to her. They brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside the camp of Israel.

וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ הַנְּעָרִ֣ים הַֽמְרַגְּלִ֗ים וַיֹּצִ֡יאוּ אֶת־רָ֠חָב וְאֶת־אָבִ֨יהָ וְאֶת־אִמָּ֤הּ וְאֶת־אַחֶ֨יהָ֙ וְאֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לָ֔הּ וְאֵ֥ת כָּל־מִשְׁפְּחוֹתֶ֖יהָ הוֹצִ֑יאוּ וַיַּ֨נִּיח֔וּם מִח֖וּץ לְמַחֲנֵ֥ה יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veha'i֛yr shsarep֥u ba'e֖shsh vekal-'ashsher-bּa֑hּ ra֣q ׀ hakּe֣sep vehazּaha֗b ukele֤y hanּecho֨shshet֙ vehabּareze֔l naten֖u 'otza֥r bּeyt-yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then they burned the whole city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD’s house.

וְהָעִ֛יר שָׂרְפ֥וּ בָאֵ֖שׁ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁר־בָּ֑הּ רַ֣ק ׀ הַכֶּ֣סֶף וְהַזָּהָ֗ב וּכְלֵ֤י הַנְּחֹ֨שֶׁת֙ וְהַבַּרְזֶ֔ל נָתְנ֖וּ אוֹצַ֥ר בֵּית־יְהוָֽה׃

Edified Edition (EDE)But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho, and she lives among the Israelites to this day.

וְֽאֶת־רָחָ֣ב הַ֠זּוֹנָה וְאֶת־בֵּ֨ית אָבִ֤יהָ וְאֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לָהּ֙ הֶחֱיָ֣ה יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ וַתֵּ֨שֶׁב֙ בְּקֶ֣רֶב יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל עַ֖ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה כִּ֤י הֶחְבִּ֨יאָה֙ אֶת־הַמַּלְאָכִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַ֥ח יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ לְרַגֵּ֥ל אֶת־יְרִיחֽוֹ׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּashshebּa֣ yehoshshu֔'a bּa'e֥t hahi֖y le'mo֑r 'ar֨ur ha'i֜yshsh lipene֣y yehva֗h 'ashshe֤r yaqum֙ ubana֞h 'et-ha'i֤yr hazּo't֙ 'et-yeriych֔o bּibekor֣o yeyasּede֔nּah ubitze'iyr֖o yatzּi֥yb dּelateֽyha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath: "Cursed before the LORD is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho: "At the cost of his firstborn son will he lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest will he set up its gates."

וַיַּשְׁבַּ֣ע יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ בָּעֵ֥ת הַהִ֖יא לֵאמֹ֑ר אָר֨וּר הָאִ֜ישׁ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר יָקוּם֙ וּבָנָ֞ה אֶת־הָעִ֤יר הַזֹּאת֙ אֶת־יְרִיח֔וֹ בִּבְכֹר֣וֹ יְיַסְּדֶ֔נָּה וּבִצְעִיר֖וֹ יַצִּ֥יב דְּלָתֶֽיהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֥y yehva֖h 'et-yehoshshu֑'a vayehi֥y shshame'֖o bּekal-ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.

וַיְהִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־יְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ וַיְהִ֥י שָׁמְע֖וֹ בְּכָל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃
