Chapter 3
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'e֤lּeh hagּoyim֙ 'ashshe֣r hinּi֣ycha yehva֔h lenasּ֥ot bּa֖m 'et-yishsera'e֑l 'e֚t kּal-'ashshe֣r loֽ'-yade'֔u 'e֖t kּal-milecham֥ot kּenaֽ'an׃
Edified Edition (EDE)These are the nations the LORD left to test all those Israelites who had not experienced any of the wars in Canaan

וְאֵ֤לֶּה הַגּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִנִּ֣יחַ יְהוָ֔ה לְנַסּ֥וֹת בָּ֖ם אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֵ֚ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־יָדְע֔וּ אֵ֖ת כָּל־מִלְחֲמ֥וֹת כְּנָֽעַן׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): ra֗q lema֨'an֙ dּa֚'at dּor֣ot bּeneֽy-yishsera'e֔l lelamּeda֖m milechama֑h ra֥q 'ashsher-lepani֖ym lo֥ yeda'ֽum׃
Edified Edition (EDE)(he did this only to teach warfare to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience):

רַ֗ק לְמַ֨עַן֙ דַּ֚עַת דֹּר֣וֹת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לְלַמְּדָ֖ם מִלְחָמָ֑ה רַ֥ק אֲשֶׁר־לְפָנִ֖ים לֹ֥א יְדָעֽוּם׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): chame֣shshet ׀ sarene֣y pelishshetּi֗ym vekal-haֽkּena'aniy֙ vehatzּi֣ydoni֔y veha֣chiui֔y yoshshe֖b ha֣r halּeban֑on mehar֙ bּa֣'al cherem֔on 'a֖d leb֥o chamaֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)the five rulers of the Philistines, so to the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living in the Lebanon mountains from Mount Baal Hermon to Lebo Hamath.

חֲמֵ֣שֶׁת ׀ סַרְנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים וְכָל־הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ וְהַצִּ֣ידֹנִ֔י וְהַ֣חִוִּ֔י יֹשֵׁ֖ב הַ֣ר הַלְּבָנ֑וֹן מֵהַר֙ בַּ֣עַל חֶרְמ֔וֹן עַ֖ד לְב֥וֹא חֲמָֽת׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּihey֕u lenasּ֥ot bּa֖m 'et-yishsera'e֑l lada֗'at hayishsheme'u֙ 'et-mitzevo֣t yehva֔h 'ashsher-tziua֥h 'et-'abota֖m bּeyad-moshsheֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They were left to test the Israelites to see whether they would obey the LORD’s commands, which he had given their ancestors through Moses.

וַֽיִּהְי֕וּ לְנַסּ֥וֹת בָּ֖ם אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לָדַ֗עַת הֲיִשְׁמְעוּ֙ אֶת־מִצְוֺ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֥ה אֶת־אֲבוֹתָ֖ם בְּיַד־מֹשֶֽׁה׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubene֣y yishsera'e֔l yashsheb֖u bּeqe֣reb haֽkּena'ani֑y hachitּi֤y vehaֽ'emoriy֙ vehapּerizּi֔y vehachiui֖y vehayebusiֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The Israelites lived among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.

וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל יָשְׁב֖וּ בְּקֶ֣רֶב הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֑י הַחִתִּ֤י וְהָֽאֱמֹרִי֙ וְהַפְּרִזִּ֔י וְהַחִוִּ֖י וְהַיְבוּסִֽי׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqech֨u 'et-bּenoteyhe֤m lahem֙ lenashshi֔ym ve'et-bּenoteyhe֖m naten֣u libeneyhe֑m vayּa'abed֖u 'et-'eloheyheֽm׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)They took their daughters in marriage and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.

וַיִּקְח֨וּ אֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיהֶ֤ם לָהֶם֙ לְנָשִׁ֔ים וְאֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיהֶ֖ם נָתְנ֣וּ לִבְנֵיהֶ֑ם וַיַּעַבְד֖וּ אֶת־אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃פ

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'ashs֨u beney-yishsera'e֤l 'et-hara'֙ bּe'eyne֣y yehva֔h vaֽyּishshekּech֖u 'et-yehva֣h 'eloֽheyhe֑m vayּa'abed֥u 'et-habּe'ali֖ym ve'et-ha'ashsherֽot׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD; they forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs.

וַיַּעֲשׂ֨וּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל אֶת־הָרַע֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וַֽיִּשְׁכְּח֖וּ אֶת־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶ֑ם וַיַּעַבְד֥וּ אֶת־הַבְּעָלִ֖ים וְאֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרֽוֹת׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiֽchar-'a֤p yehvah֙ bּeyishsera'e֔l vaֽyּimekּere֗m bּeyad֙ kּushsha֣n rishshe'ata֔yim me֖leke 'ara֣m nahara֑yim vayּa'abed֧u beneֽy-yishsera'e֛l 'et-kּushsha֥n rishshe'ata֖yim shshemone֥h shshaniֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The anger of the LORD burned against Israel so that he sold them into the hands of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim, to whom the Israelites were subject for eight years.

וַיִּֽחַר־אַ֤ף יְהוָה֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַֽיִּמְכְּרֵ֗ם בְּיַד֙ כּוּשַׁ֣ן רִשְׁעָתַ֔יִם מֶ֖לֶךְ אֲרַ֣ם נַהֲרָ֑יִם וַיַּעַבְד֧וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶת־כּוּשַׁ֥ן רִשְׁעָתַ֖יִם שְׁמֹנֶ֥ה שָׁנִֽים׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּize'aq֤u beneֽy-yishsera'el֙ 'el-yehva֔h vayּa֨qem yehva֥h moshshi֛y'a libene֥y yishsera'e֖l vayּֽoshshiy'e֑m 'e֚t 'ateniy'e֣l bּen-qena֔z 'achi֥y kale֖b haqּato֥n mimּeֽnּu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But when they cried out to the LORD, he raised up for them a deliverer, Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, who saved them.

וַיִּזְעֲק֤וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה וַיָּ֨קֶם יְהוָ֥ה מוֹשִׁ֛יעַ לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וַיּֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֑ם אֵ֚ת עָתְנִיאֵ֣ל בֶּן־קְנַ֔ז אֲחִ֥י כָלֵ֖ב הַקָּטֹ֥ן מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּehi֨y 'ala֥yv rֽucha-yehvah֮ vayּishshepּo֣t 'et-yishsera'el֒ vayּetze'֙ lamּilechama֔h vayּitּe֤n yehvah֙ bּeyad֔o 'et-kּushsha֥n rishshe'ata֖yim me֣leke 'ara֑m vatּa֣'az yad֔o 'a֖l kּushsha֥n rishshe'ataֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The Spirit of the LORD came on him, so that he became Israel’s judge and went to war. the LORD gave Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him.

וַתְּהִ֨י עָלָ֥יו רֽוּחַ־יְהוָה֮ וַיִּשְׁפֹּ֣ט אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַיֵּצֵא֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וַיִּתֵּ֤ן יְהוָה֙ בְּיָד֔וֹ אֶת־כּוּשַׁ֥ן רִשְׁעָתַ֖יִם מֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֑ם וַתָּ֣עָז יָד֔וֹ עַ֖ל כּוּשַׁ֥ן רִשְׁעָתָֽיִם׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּishsheqo֥t ha'a֖retz 'arebּa'i֣ym shshana֑h vayּa֖mat 'ateniy'e֥l bּen-qenaֽz׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)So the land had peace for forty years, until Othniel son of Kenaz died.

וַתִּשְׁקֹ֥ט הָאָ֖רֶץ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּ֖מָת עָתְנִיאֵ֥ל בֶּן־קְנַֽז׃פ

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּosi֨pu֙ bּene֣y yishsera'e֔l la'ashs֥ot hara֖ bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h vayechazּe֨q yehva֜h 'et-'egel֤on meֽleke-mo'ab֙ 'al-yishsera'e֔l 'a֛l kּiֽy-'ashs֥u 'et-hara֖ bּe'eyne֥y yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD, and because they did this, the LORD gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel.

וַיֹּסִ֨פוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיְחַזֵּ֨ק יְהוָ֜ה אֶת־עֶגְל֤וֹן מֶֽלֶךְ־מוֹאָב֙ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל עַ֛ל כִּֽי־עָשׂ֥וּ אֶת־הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe'eso֣p 'ela֔yv 'et-bּene֥y 'amּ֖on va'amale֑q vayּe֗leke vayּake֙ 'et-yishsera'e֔l vayּiֽyreshsh֖u 'et-'i֥yr hatּemariֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Getting the Ammonites and Amalekites to join him, Eglon came and attacked Israel, and they took possession of the City of Palms.

וַיֶּאֱסֹ֣ף אֵלָ֔יו אֶת־בְּנֵ֥י עַמּ֖וֹן וַעֲמָלֵ֑ק וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ וַיַּךְ֙ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּֽירְשׁ֖וּ אֶת־עִ֥יר הַתְּמָרִֽים׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'abed֤u beneֽy-yishsera'el֙ 'et-'egel֣on meֽleke-mo'a֔b shshemone֥h 'eshsere֖h shshanaֽh׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)The Israelites were subject to Eglon king of Moab for eighteen years.

וַיַּעַבְד֤וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֶת־עֶגְל֣וֹן מֶֽלֶךְ־מוֹאָ֔ב שְׁמוֹנֶ֥ה עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה שָׁנָֽה׃ס

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּize'aq֣u beneֽy-yishsera'el֮ 'el-yehvah֒ vayּaqem֩ yehva֨h lahe֜m moshshi֗y'a 'et-'eh֤ud bּen-gּera'֙ bּen-hayemiyni֔y 'i֥yshsh 'itּe֖r yad-yemiyn֑o vayּishshelech֨u beney-yishsera'e֤l bּeyado֙ minecha֔h le'egel֖on me֥leke mo'aֽb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Again the Israelites cried out to the LORD, and he gave them a deliverer—Ehud, a left-handed man [1], the son of Gera the Benjamite. The Israelites sent him with tribute to Eglon king of Moab.

וַיִּזְעֲק֣וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ אֶל־יְהוָה֒ וַיָּקֶם֩ יְהוָ֨ה לָהֶ֜ם מוֹשִׁ֗יעַ אֶת־אֵה֤וּד בֶּן־גֵּרָא֙ בֶּן־הַיְמִינִ֔י אִ֥ישׁ אִטֵּ֖ר יַד־יְמִינ֑וֹ וַיִּשְׁלְח֨וּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל בְּיָדוֹ֙ מִנְחָ֔ה לְעֶגְל֖וֹן מֶ֥לֶךְ מוֹאָֽב׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'ashs֩ l֨o 'eh֜ud che֗reb vela֛hּ shshene֥y pey֖ot gּo֣med 'arekּa֑hּ vayּachegּo֤r 'otahּ֙ mitּa֣chat lemadּa֔yv 'a֖l ye֥reke yemiynֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now Ehud had made a double-edged sword about a cubit long, which he strapped to his right thigh under his clothing.

וַיַּעַשׂ֩ ל֨וֹ אֵה֜וּד חֶ֗רֶב וְלָ֛הּ שְׁנֵ֥י פֵי֖וֹת גֹּ֣מֶד אָרְכָּ֑הּ וַיַּחְגֹּ֤ר אוֹתָהּ֙ מִתַּ֣חַת לְמַדָּ֔יו עַ֖ל יֶ֥רֶךְ יְמִינֽוֹ׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּaqereb֙ 'et-hamּinecha֔h le'egel֖on me֣leke mo'a֑b ve'egel֕on 'i֥yshsh bּari֖y me'oֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab, who was a very fat man.

וַיַּקְרֵב֙ אֶת־הַמִּנְחָ֔ה לְעֶגְל֖וֹן מֶ֣לֶךְ מוֹאָ֑ב וְעֶגְל֕וֹן אִ֥ישׁ בָּרִ֖יא מְאֹֽד׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyehiy֙ kּa'ashshe֣r kּilּa֔h lehaqeri֖yb 'et-hamּinecha֑h vayeshshalּach֙ 'et-ha'a֔m noshse'e֖y hamּinechaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)After Ehud had finished presenting the tribute, he sent on their way those who had carried it.

וַֽיְהִי֙ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר כִּלָּ֔ה לְהַקְרִ֖יב אֶת־הַמִּנְחָ֑ה וַיְשַׁלַּח֙ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם נֹשְׂאֵ֖י הַמִּנְחָֽה׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): veh֣u shsha֗b min-hapּesiyliym֙ 'ashshe֣r 'et-hagּilegּa֔l vayּo֕'mer dּebar-se֥ter li֛y 'ele֖yka hamּe֑leke vayּo֣'mer ha֔s vayּeֽtze'u֙ meֽ'ala֔yv kּal-ha'omedi֖ym 'alaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But on reaching the stone images near Gilgal he himself went back to Eglon and said, "Your Majesty, I have a secret message for you." The king said to his attendants, "Leave us!" And they all left.

וְה֣וּא שָׁ֗ב מִן־הַפְּסִילִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶת־הַגִּלְגָּ֔ל וַיֹּ֕אמֶר דְּבַר־סֵ֥תֶר לִ֛י אֵלֶ֖יךָ הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הָ֔ס וַיֵּֽצְאוּ֙ מֵֽעָלָ֔יו כָּל־הָעֹמְדִ֖ים עָלָֽיו׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'eh֣ud ׀ bּa֣ 'ela֗yv vehֽu'-yo֠shsheb bּa'aliyּa֨t hamּeqera֤h 'ashsher-lo֙ lebadּ֔o vayּo֣'mer 'eh֔ud dּebar-'elohi֥ym li֖y 'ele֑yka vayּa֖qam me'a֥l hakּisּeֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Ehud then approached him while he was sitting alone in the upper room of his palace and said, "I have a message from God for you." As the king rose from his seat,

וְאֵה֣וּד ׀ בָּ֣א אֵלָ֗יו וְהֽוּא־יֹ֠שֵׁב בַּעֲלִיַּ֨ת הַמְּקֵרָ֤ה אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ֙ לְבַדּ֔וֹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵה֔וּד דְּבַר־אֱלֹהִ֥ים לִ֖י אֵלֶ֑יךָ וַיָּ֖קָם מֵעַ֥ל הַכִּסֵּֽא׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshela֤ch 'ehud֙ 'et-ya֣d shsemo'l֔o vayּiqּach֙ 'et-hache֔reb me'a֖l ye֣reke yemiyn֑o vayּiteqa'e֖ha bּebitenֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Ehud reached with his left hand, drew the sword from his right thigh and plunged it into the king’s belly.

וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח אֵהוּד֙ אֶת־יַ֣ד שְׂמֹאל֔וֹ וַיִּקַּח֙ אֶת־הַחֶ֔רֶב מֵעַ֖ל יֶ֣רֶךְ יְמִינ֑וֹ וַיִּתְקָעֶ֖הָ בְּבִטְנֽוֹ׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֨ gaֽm-hanּitzּa֜b 'acha֣r halּa֗hab vayּisegּo֤r hache֨leb֙ bּe'a֣d halּa֔hab kּi֣y lo֥ shshala֛p hache֖reb mibּiten֑o vayּetze֖ hֽapּareshshedoֽnah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Even the handle sank in after the blade, and his fat closed over it, for Ehud did not pull the sword out. The king’s insides spilled out.

וַיָּבֹ֨א גַֽם־הַנִּצָּ֜ב אַחַ֣ר הַלַּ֗הַב וַיִּסְגֹּ֤ר הַחֵ֨לֶב֙ בְּעַ֣ד הַלַּ֔הַב כִּ֣י לֹ֥א שָׁלַ֛ף הַחֶ֖רֶב מִבִּטְנ֑וֹ וַיֵּצֵ֖א הַֽפַּרְשְׁדֹֽנָה׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּetze֥ 'eh֖ud haֽmּisedּer֑onah vayּisegּo֞r dּalet֧ot ha'aliyּa֛h bּa'ad֖o vena'aֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Ehud went out to the porch; he shut the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them.

וַיֵּצֵ֥א אֵה֖וּד הַֽמִּסְדְּר֑וֹנָה וַיִּסְגֹּ֞ר דַּלְת֧וֹת הָעַלִיָּ֛ה בַּעֲד֖וֹ וְנָעָֽל׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): veh֤u yatza'֙ va'abada֣yv bּa֔'u vayּire'֕u vehinּe֛h dּalet֥ot ha'aliyּa֖h ne'ul֑ot vayּo֣'mer֔u 'a֣ke mesi֥yke h֛u 'et-ragela֖yv bּachada֥r hamּeqeraֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)After he had gone, the servants came and found the doors of the upper room locked. They said, "He must be relieving himself in the inner room of the palace."

וְה֤וּא יָצָא֙ וַעֲבָדָ֣יו בָּ֔אוּ וַיִּרְא֕וּ וְהִנֵּ֛ה דַּלְת֥וֹת הָעֲלִיָּ֖ה נְעֻל֑וֹת וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ אַ֣ךְ מֵסִ֥יךְ ה֛וּא אֶת־רַגְלָ֖יו בַּחֲדַ֥ר הַמְּקֵרָֽה׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּachi֣ylu 'ad-bּ֔oshsh vehenּe֛h 'eyne֥nּu pote֖cha dּalet֣ot haֽ'aliyּa֑h vayּiqech֤u 'et-hamּapetּe֨cha֙ vayּipetּa֔chu vehinּeh֙ 'ado֣neyhe֔m nope֥l 'a֖retzah meֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They waited to the point of embarrassment, but when he did not open the doors of the room, they took a key and unlocked them. There they saw their lord fallen to the floor, dead.

וַיָּחִ֣ילוּ עַד־בּ֔וֹשׁ וְהְנֵּ֛ה אֵינֶ֥נּוּ פֹתֵ֖חַ דַּלְת֣וֹת הָֽעֲלִיָּ֑ה וַיִּקְח֤וּ אֶת־הַמַּפְתֵּ֨חַ֙ וַיִּפְתָּ֔חוּ וְהִנֵּה֙ אֲדֹ֣נֵיהֶ֔ם נֹפֵ֥ל אַ֖רְצָה מֵֽת׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'eh֥ud nimela֖t 'a֣d hiֽtemahemeha֑m vehu'֙ 'aba֣r 'et-hapּesiyli֔ym vayּimּale֖t hashsּe'iyraֽtah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)While they waited, Ehud got away. He passed by the stone images and escaped to Seirah.

וְאֵה֥וּד נִמְלַ֖ט עַ֣ד הִֽתְמַהְמְהָ֑ם וְהוּא֙ עָבַ֣ר אֶת־הַפְּסִילִ֔ים וַיִּמָּלֵ֖ט הַשְּׂעִירָֽתָה׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y bּebo'֔o vayּiteqa֥ bּashshּopa֖r bּeha֣r 'epera֑yim vayּered֨u 'imּ֧o beneֽy-yishsera'e֛l min-haha֖r veh֥u lipeneyheֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When he arrived there, he blew a trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went down with him from the hills, with him leading them.

וַיְהִ֣י בְּבוֹא֔וֹ וַיִּתְקַ֥ע בַּשּׁוֹפָ֖ר בְּהַ֣ר אֶפְרָ֑יִם וַיֵּרְד֨וּ עִמּ֧וֹ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל מִן־הָהָ֖ר וְה֥וּא לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer 'alehem֙ ridep֣u 'achara֔y kּiֽy-nata֨n yehva֧h 'et-'oyebeyke֛m 'et-mo'a֖b bּeyedeke֑m vayּered֣u 'achara֗yv vaֽyּilekּed֞u 'et-ma'ebּer֤ot hayּaredּen֙ lemo'a֔b veloֽ'-naten֥u 'i֖yshsh la'aboֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Follow me," he ordered, "for the LORD has given Moab, your enemy, into your hands." So they followed him down and, taking possession of the fords of the Jordan that led to Moab, they allowed no one to cross over.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙ רִדְפ֣וּ אַחֲרַ֔י כִּֽי־נָתַ֨ן יְהוָ֧ה אֶת־אֹיְבֵיכֶ֛ם אֶת־מוֹאָ֖ב בְּיֶדְכֶ֑ם וַיֵּרְד֣וּ אַחֲרָ֗יו וַֽיִּלְכְּד֞וּ אֶת־מַעְבְּר֤וֹת הַיַּרְדֵּן֙ לְמוֹאָ֔ב וְלֹֽא־נָתְנ֥וּ אִ֖ישׁ לַעֲבֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּakּ֨u 'et-mo'a֜b bּa'e֣t hahi֗y kּa'ashse֤ret 'alapiym֙ 'i֔yshsh kּal-shshame֖n vekal-'i֣yshsh cha֑yil velo֥ nimela֖t 'iֽyshsh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)At that time they struck down about ten thousand Moabites, all vigorous and strong; not one escaped.

וַיַּכּ֨וּ אֶת־מוֹאָ֜ב בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֗יא כַּעֲשֶׂ֤רֶת אֲלָפִים֙ אִ֔ישׁ כָּל־שָׁמֵ֖ן וְכָל־אִ֣ישׁ חָ֑יִל וְלֹ֥א נִמְלַ֖ט אִֽישׁ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּikּana֤ mo'ab֙ bּayּ֣om hah֔u tּa֖chat ya֣d yishsera'e֑l vatּishsheqo֥t ha'a֖retz shshemoni֥ym shshanaֽh׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)That day Moab was made subject to Israel, and the land had peace for eighty years.

וַתִּכָּנַ֤ע מוֹאָב֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא תַּ֖חַת יַ֣ד יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַתִּשְׁקֹ֥ט הָאָ֖רֶץ שְׁמוֹנִ֥ים שָׁנָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'achara֤yv hayah֙ shshamegּa֣r bּen-'ana֔t vayּa֤ke 'et-pּelishshetּiym֙ shsheֽshsh-me'֣ot 'i֔yshsh bּemalema֖d habּaqa֑r vayּo֥shsha gּam-h֖u 'et-yishsera'eֽl׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)After Ehud came Shamgar son of Anath, who struck down six hundred Philistines with an oxgoad. He too saved Israel.

וְאַחֲרָ֤יו הָיָה֙ שַׁמְגַּ֣ר בֶּן־עֲנָ֔ת וַיַּ֤ךְ אֶת־פְּלִשְׁתִּים֙ שֵֽׁשׁ־מֵא֣וֹת אִ֔ישׁ בְּמַלְמַ֖ד הַבָּקָ֑ר וַיֹּ֥שַׁע גַּם־ה֖וּא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס
