Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּa֣shshar dּebora֔h ubara֖q bּen-'abiyno֑'am bּayּ֥om hah֖u le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)On that day Deborah and Barak son of Abinoam sang this song:

וַתָּ֣שַׁר דְּבוֹרָ֔ה וּבָרָ֖ק בֶּן־אֲבִינֹ֑עַם בַּיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּipero֤'a pּera'ot֙ bּeyishsera'e֔l bּehitenadּe֖b 'a֑m bּarak֖u yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"When the princes in Israel take the lead, when the people willingly offer themselves, praise the LORD!

בִּפְרֹ֤עַ פְּרָעוֹת֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּהִתְנַדֵּ֖ב עָ֑ם בָּרֲכ֖וּ יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshime'֣u melaki֔ym ha'azi֖ynu roֽzeni֑ym 'ֽanoki֗y laֽyhvah֙ 'anoki֣y 'ashshi֔yrah 'azamּe֕r laֽyhva֖h 'elohe֥y yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers! I, even I, will sing to the LORD; I will praise the LORD, the God of Israel, in song.

שִׁמְע֣וּ מְלָכִ֔ים הַאֲזִ֖ינוּ רֹֽזְנִ֑ים אָֽנֹכִ֗י לַֽיהוָה֙ אָנֹכִ֣י אָשִׁ֔ירָה אֲזַמֵּ֕ר לַֽיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): yehva֗h bּetze'teka֤ mishsּe'iyr֙ bּetza'edּeka֙ mishsּede֣h 'ed֔om 'e֣retz ra'a֔shshah gּam-shshama֖yim nata֑pu gּam-'abi֖ym na֥tepu maֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"When you, the LORD, went out from Seir, when you marched from the land of Edom, the earth shook, the heavens poured, the clouds poured down water.

יְהוָ֗ה בְּצֵאתְךָ֤ מִשֵּׂעִיר֙ בְּצַעְדְּךָ֙ מִשְּׂדֵ֣ה אֱד֔וֹם אֶ֣רֶץ רָעָ֔שָׁה גַּם־שָׁמַ֖יִם נָטָ֑פוּ גַּם־עָבִ֖ים נָ֥טְפוּ מָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hari֥ym nazel֖u mipּene֣y yehva֑h ze֣h siyna֔y mipּene֕y yehva֖h 'elohe֥y yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"The mountains quaked before the LORD, the One of Sinai, before the LORD, the God of Israel.

הָרִ֥ים נָזְל֖וּ מִפְּנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה זֶ֣ה סִינַ֔י מִפְּנֵ֕י יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּiyme֞y shshamegּa֤r bּen-'anat֙ bּiyme֣y ya'e֔l chadel֖u 'orach֑ot veholeke֣y netiyb֔ot yelek֕u 'orach֖ot 'aqaleqalּֽot׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were abandoned; travellers took to winding paths.

בִּימֵ֞י שַׁמְגַּ֤ר בֶּן־עֲנָת֙ בִּימֵ֣י יָעֵ֔ל חָדְל֖וּ אֳרָח֑וֹת וְהֹלְכֵ֣י נְתִיב֔וֹת יֵלְכ֕וּ אֳרָח֖וֹת עֲקַלְקַלּֽוֹת׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): chadel֧u peraz֛on bּeyishsera'e֖l chade֑lּu 'a֤d shshaqּa֨metּiy֙ dּebora֔h shshaqּa֥metּiy 'e֖m bּeyishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Villagers in Israel would not fight; they held back until I, Deborah, arose, until I arose, a mother in Israel.

חָדְל֧וּ פְרָז֛וֹן בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל חָדֵ֑לּוּ עַ֤ד שַׁקַּ֨מְתִּי֙ דְּבוֹרָ֔ה שַׁקַּ֥מְתִּי אֵ֖ם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): yibechar֙ 'elohi֣ym chadashshi֔ym 'a֖z lache֣m shshe'ari֑ym mage֤n 'im-yeֽra'eh֙ varo֔mach bּe'arebּa'i֥ym 'e֖lep bּeyishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"God chose new leaders when war came to the city gates, but not a shield or spear was seen among forty thousand in Israel.

יִבְחַר֙ אֱלֹהִ֣ים חֲדָשִׁ֔ים אָ֖ז לָחֶ֣ם שְׁעָרִ֑ים מָגֵ֤ן אִם־יֵֽרָאֶה֙ וָרֹ֔מַח בְּאַרְבָּעִ֥ים אֶ֖לֶף בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): libּiy֙ lechoqeqe֣y yishsera'e֔l hamּiֽtenadּebi֖ym bּa'a֑m bּarak֖u yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"My heart is with Israel’s princes, with the willing volunteers among the people. Praise the LORD!

לִבִּי֙ לְחוֹקְקֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַמִּֽתְנַדְּבִ֖ים בָּעָ֑ם בָּרֲכ֖וּ יְהוָֽה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): rokebey֩ 'aton֨ot tzechor֜ot yoshshebe֧y 'al-midּi֛yn veholeke֥y 'al-dּe֖reke shsiֽychu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"You who ride on white donkeys, sitting on your saddle blankets, and you who walk along the road, consider this:

רֹכְבֵי֩ אֲתֹנ֨וֹת צְחֹר֜וֹת יֹשְׁבֵ֧י עַל־מִדִּ֛ין וְהֹלְכֵ֥י עַל־דֶּ֖רֶךְ שִֽׂיחוּ׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): miqּ֣ol mechaֽtzetzi֗ym bּe֚yn mashshe'abּi֔ym shsha֤m yetanּu֙ tzideq֣ot yehva֔h tzideqo֥t pּirezon֖o bּeyishsera'e֑l 'a֛z yared֥u lashshּe'ari֖ym 'am-yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Listen! Lower than the voice of the singers at the watering places, they recite the victories of the LORD, the victories of his villagers in Israel. "Then the people of the LORD went down to the city gates.

מִקּ֣וֹל מְחַֽצְצִ֗ים בֵּ֚ין מַשְׁאַבִּ֔ים שָׁ֤ם יְתַנּוּ֙ צִדְק֣וֹת יְהוָ֔ה צִדְקֹ֥ת פִּרְזֹנ֖וֹ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אָ֛ז יָרְד֥וּ לַשְּׁעָרִ֖ים עַם־יְהוָֽה׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): uri֤y 'uriy֙ dּebora֔h '֥uriy '֖uriy dּabּeriy-shshi֑yr q֥um bּara֛q uֽshshabe֥h shshebeyeka֖ bּen-'abiynoֽ'am׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'Wake up, wake up, Deborah! Wake up, wake up, break out in song! Arise, Barak! Take captive your captives, son of Abinoam.'

עוּרִ֤י עוּרִי֙ דְּבוֹרָ֔ה ע֥וּרִי ע֖וּרִי דַּבְּרִי־שִׁ֑יר ק֥וּם בָּרָ֛ק וּֽשֲׁבֵ֥ה שֶׁבְיְךָ֖ בֶּן־אֲבִינֹֽעַם׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): a֚z yera֣d shsari֔yd le'adּiyri֖ym 'a֑m yehva֕h yerad-li֖y bּagּibּoriֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"The remnant of the nobles came down; the people of the LORD came down to me against the mighty.

אָ֚ז יְרַ֣ד שָׂרִ֔יד לְאַדִּירִ֖ים עָ֑ם יְהוָ֕ה יְרַד־לִ֖י בַּגִּבּוֹרִֽים׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): minּi֣y 'epera֗yim shshareshsham֙ bּa'amale֔q 'achare֥yka bineyami֖yn bּֽa'amame֑yka minּi֣y maki֗yr yaֽredu֙ mecho֣qeqi֔ym umi֨zּebulu֔n moshsheki֖ym bּeshshe֥bet sopeֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Some came from Ephraim, whose roots were in Amalek; Benjamin was with the people who followed you. From Makir captains came down, from Zebulun those who bear a commander’s staff.

מִנִּ֣י אֶפְרַ֗יִם שָׁרְשָׁם֙ בַּעֲמָלֵ֔ק אַחֲרֶ֥יךָ בִנְיָמִ֖ין בַּֽעֲמָמֶ֑יךָ מִנִּ֣י מָכִ֗יר יָֽרְדוּ֙ מְחֹ֣קְקִ֔ים וּמִ֨זְּבוּלֻ֔ן מֹשְׁכִ֖ים בְּשֵׁ֥בֶט סֹפֵֽר׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): veshsara֤y bּeyishsּashkar֙ 'im-dּebora֔h veyishsּashkar֙ kּe֣n bּara֔q bּa'e֖meq shshulּa֣ch bּeragela֑yv bּipelagּ֣ot re'ube֔n gּedoli֖ym chiqeqey-leֽb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"The princes of Issachar were with Deborah; yes, Issachar was with Barak, sent under his command into the valley. In the districts of Reuben there was much searching of heart.

וְשָׂרַ֤י בְּיִשָּׂשכָר֙ עִם־דְּבֹרָ֔ה וְיִשָּׂשכָר֙ כֵּ֣ן בָּרָ֔ק בָּעֵ֖מֶק שֻׁלַּ֣ח בְּרַגְלָ֑יו בִּפְלַגּ֣וֹת רְאוּבֵ֔ן גְּדֹלִ֖ים חִקְקֵי־לֵֽב׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): la֣mּah yashsha֗betּa bּe֚yn haֽmּishshepּeta֔yim lishshemo֖'a shsheriq֣ot 'adari֑ym lipelagּ֣ot re'ube֔n gּedoli֖ym chiqerey-leֽb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Why did you stay among the sheepfolds to hear the whistling for the flocks? In the districts of Reuben there was much searching of heart.

לָ֣מָּה יָשַׁ֗בְתָּ בֵּ֚ין הַֽמִּשְׁפְּתַ֔יִם לִשְׁמֹ֖עַ שְׁרִק֣וֹת עֲדָרִ֑ים לִפְלַגּ֣וֹת רְאוּבֵ֔ן גְּדוֹלִ֖ים חִקְרֵי־לֵֽב׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): gּile'a֗d bּe'e֤ber hayּaredּen֙ shshake֔n veda֕n la֥mּah yag֖ur 'oniyּ֑ot 'ashshe֗r yashshab֙ lech֣op yamּi֔ym ve'a֥l miperatza֖yv yishshekּֽon׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan. And Dan, why did he linger by the ships? Asher remained on the coast and stayed in his coves.

גִּלְעָ֗ד בְּעֵ֤בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּן֙ שָׁכֵ֔ן וְדָ֕ן לָ֥מָּה יָג֖וּר אֳנִיּ֑וֹת אָשֵׁ֗ר יָשַׁב֙ לְח֣וֹף יַמִּ֔ים וְעַ֥ל מִפְרָצָ֖יו יִשְׁכּֽוֹן׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): zebul֗un 'a֣m chere֥p napeshsh֛o lam֖ut venapetּali֑y 'a֖l merome֥y shsadeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"The people of Zebulun risked their very lives; so did Naphtali on the terraced fields.

זְבֻל֗וּן עַ֣ם חֵרֵ֥ף נַפְשׁ֛וֹ לָמ֖וּת וְנַפְתָּלִ֑י עַ֖ל מְרוֹמֵ֥י שָׂדֶֽה׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּa֤'u melakiym֙ nilecha֔mu 'a֤z nilechamu֙ maleke֣y kena֔'an bּeta'ena֖ke 'al-me֣y megidּ֑o bּe֥tza kּe֖sep lo֥ laqaֽchu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Kings came, they fought, the kings of Canaan fought at Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo; they took no plunder of silver.

בָּ֤אוּ מְלָכִים֙ נִלְחָ֔מוּ אָ֤ז נִלְחֲמוּ֙ מַלְכֵ֣י כְנַ֔עַן בְּתַעְנַ֖ךְ עַל־מֵ֣י מְגִדּ֑וֹ בֶּ֥צַע כֶּ֖סֶף לֹ֥א לָקָֽחוּ׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): min-shshama֖yim nilecha֑mu hakּֽokabiym֙ mimּesilּota֔m nilecham֖u 'im-siyseraֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"From the heavens the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera.

מִן־שָׁמַ֖יִם נִלְחָ֑מוּ הַכּֽוֹכָבִים֙ מִמְּסִלּוֹתָ֔ם נִלְחֲמ֖וּ עִם־סִיסְרָֽא׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): na֤chal qiyshshon֙ gּerapa֔m na֥chal qedumi֖ym na֣chal qiyshsh֑on tּidereki֥y napeshshi֖y 'oֽz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"The river Kishon swept them away, the age-old river, the river Kishon. March on, my soul; be strong!

נַ֤חַל קִישׁוֹן֙ גְּרָפָ֔ם נַ֥חַל קְדוּמִ֖ים נַ֣חַל קִישׁ֑וֹן תִּדְרְכִ֥י נַפְשִׁ֖י עֹֽז׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): a֥z halem֖u 'iqּebey-s֑us miֽdּahar֖ot dּahar֥ot 'abּiyraֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Then thundered the horses’ hooves, galloping, galloping go his mighty steeds.

אָ֥ז הָלְמ֖וּ עִקְּבֵי־ס֑וּס מִֽדַּהֲר֖וֹת דַּהֲר֥וֹת אַבִּירָֽיו׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): ֣oru mer֗oz 'amar֙ male'a֣ke yehva֔h 'o֥ru 'ar֖or yoshshebe֑yha kּi֤y loֽ'-ba֨'u֙ le'ezera֣t yehva֔h le'ezera֥t yehva֖h bּagּibּoriֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'Curse Meroz,' said the angel of the LORD. 'Curse its people bitterly, because they did not come to help the LORD, to help the LORD against the mighty.'

א֣וֹרוּ מֵר֗וֹז אָמַר֙ מַלְאַ֣ךְ יְהוָ֔ה אֹ֥רוּ אָר֖וֹר יֹשְׁבֶ֑יהָ כִּ֤י לֹֽא־בָ֨אוּ֙ לְעֶזְרַ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה לְעֶזְרַ֥ת יְהוָ֖ה בַּגִּבּוֹרִֽים׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): tּeborake֙ minּashshi֔ym ya'e֕l 'e֖shshet che֣ber haqּeyni֑y minּashshi֥ym bּa'o֖hel tּeboraֽke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Most blessed of women be Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, most blessed of tent-dwelling women.

תְּבֹרַךְ֙ מִנָּשִׁ֔ים יָעֵ֕ל אֵ֖שֶׁת חֶ֣בֶר הַקֵּינִ֑י מִנָּשִׁ֥ים בָּאֹ֖הֶל תְּבֹרָֽךְ׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): ma֥yim shsha'a֖l chala֣b nata֑nah bּese֥pel 'adּiyri֖ym hiqeri֥ybah cheme'aֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"He asked for water, and she gave him milk; in a bowl fit for nobles she brought him curdled milk.

מַ֥יִם שָׁאַ֖ל חָלָ֣ב נָתָ֑נָה בְּסֵ֥פֶל אַדִּירִ֖ים הִקְרִ֥יבָה חֶמְאָֽה׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): yadahּ֙ layּate֣d tּishshela֔chenah viֽymiyna֖hּ lehalem֣ut 'ameli֑ym vehalema֤h siֽysera'֙ machaqa֣h ro'shsh֔o umachatza֥h vechalepa֖h raqּatֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Her hand reached for the tent peg, her right hand for the workman’s hammer. She struck Sisera, she crushed his head, she shattered and pierced his temple.

יָדָהּ֙ לַיָּתֵ֣ד תִּשְׁלַ֔חְנָה וִֽימִינָ֖הּ לְהַלְמ֣וּת עֲמֵלִ֑ים וְהָלְמָ֤ה סִֽיסְרָא֙ מָחֲקָ֣ה רֹאשׁ֔וֹ וּמָחֲצָ֥ה וְחָלְפָ֖ה רַקָּתֽוֹ׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe֣yn ragele֔yha kּara֥ napa֖l shshaka֑b bּe֤yn ragele֨yha֙ kּara֣ napa֔l bּa'ashshe֣r kּara֔ shsha֖m napa֥l shshadֽud׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"At her feet he sank, he fell; there he lay. At her feet he sank, he fell; where he sank, there he fell, dead.

בֵּ֣ין רַגְלֶ֔יהָ כָּרַ֥ע נָפַ֖ל שָׁכָ֑ב בֵּ֤ין רַגְלֶ֨יהָ֙ כָּרַ֣ע נָפָ֔ל בַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר כָּרַ֔ע שָׁ֖ם נָפַ֥ל שָׁדֽוּד׃

28
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe'ad֩ hachalּ֨on nishsheqepa֧h vatּeyabּe֛b 'e֥m siֽysera֖ bּe'a֣d hֽa'eshshena֑b madּ֗u'a bּoshshe֤shsh rikebּo֙ lab֔o madּ֣u'a 'eֽcher֔u pּa'ame֖y marekּebotaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Through the window peered Sisera’s mother; behind the lattice she cried out, 'Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why is the clatter of his chariots delayed?'

בְּעַד֩ הַחַלּ֨וֹן נִשְׁקְפָ֧ה וַתְּיַבֵּ֛ב אֵ֥ם סִֽיסְרָ֖א בְּעַ֣ד הָֽאֶשְׁנָ֑ב מַדּ֗וּעַ בֹּשֵׁ֤שׁ רִכְבּוֹ֙ לָב֔וֹא מַדּ֣וּעַ אֶֽחֱר֔וּ פַּעֲמֵ֖י מַרְכְּבוֹתָֽיו׃

29
Phonetic (Hebrew): chakem֥ot shsarote֖yha tּa'ane֑ynּah 'ap-hi֕y tּashshi֥yb 'amare֖yha laֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"The wisest of her ladies answer her; indeed, she keeps saying to herself,

חַכְמ֥וֹת שָׂרוֹתֶ֖יהָ תַּעֲנֶ֑ינָּה אַף־הִ֕יא תָּשִׁ֥יב אֲמָרֶ֖יהָ לָֽהּ׃

30
Phonetic (Hebrew): halo֨ yimetze'֜u yechalּeq֣u shshala֗l ra֤cham rachamata֨yim֙ lero֣'shsh gּe֔ber shshela֤l tzeba'iym֙ lesi֣ysera֔ shshela֥l tzeba'i֖ym riqema֑h tze֥ba riqemata֖yim letzaue're֥y shshalaֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'Are they not finding and dividing the plunder: a woman or two for each man, colourful garments as plunder for Sisera, colourful garments embroidered, highly wrought garments for my neck, all this as plunder?'

הֲלֹ֨א יִמְצְא֜וּ יְחַלְּק֣וּ שָׁלָ֗ל רַ֤חַם רַחֲמָתַ֨יִם֙ לְרֹ֣אשׁ גֶּ֔בֶר שְׁלַ֤ל צְבָעִים֙ לְסִ֣יסְרָ֔א שְׁלַ֥ל צְבָעִ֖ים רִקְמָ֑ה צֶ֥בַע רִקְמָתַ֖יִם לְצַוְּארֵ֥י שָׁלָֽל׃

31
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּe֠n yo'bed֤u kal-'oyebe֨yka֙ yehva֔h ve'o֣haba֔yv kּetze֥'t hashshּe֖meshsh bּigeburat֑o vatּishsheqo֥t ha'a֖retz 'arebּa'i֥ym shshanaֽh׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)"So may all your enemies perish, the LORD! But may all who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength." Then the land had peace for forty years.

כֵּ֠ן יֹאבְד֤וּ כָל־אוֹיְבֶ֨יךָ֙ יְהוָ֔ה וְאֹ֣הֲבָ֔יו כְּצֵ֥את הַשֶּׁ֖מֶשׁ בִּגְבֻרָת֑וֹ וַתִּשְׁקֹ֥ט הָאָ֖רֶץ אַרְבָּעִ֥ים שָׁנָֽה׃פ
