Chapter 15

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֣r yehva֔h 'el-moshshe֥h ve'eֽl-'aharo֖n le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה וְאֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֖ן לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): dּabּeru֙ 'el-bּene֣y yishsera'e֔l va'amaretּe֖m 'alehe֑m 'i֣yshsh 'i֗yshsh kּi֤y yiheyeh֙ za֣b mibּeshsar֔o zob֖o tame֥ hֽu'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Say to the Israelites: ‘When any man has an unusual bodily discharge, such a discharge is unclean.

דַּבְּרוּ֙ אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֖ם אֲלֵהֶ֑ם אִ֣ישׁ אִ֗ישׁ כִּ֤י יִהְיֶה֙ זָ֣ב מִבְּשָׂר֔וֹ זוֹב֖וֹ טָמֵ֥א הֽוּא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vezo֛'t tּiheye֥h tume'at֖o bּezob֑o ra֣r bּeshsar֞o 'et-zob֗o 'ֽo-hechetּi֤ym bּeshsaro֙ mizּob֔o tume'at֖o hiֽv'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Whether it continues or is blocked, it makes him unclean. This is how his discharge will make him unclean:

וְזֹ֛את תִּהְיֶ֥ה טֻמְאָת֖וֹ בְּזוֹב֑וֹ רָ֣ר בְּשָׂר֞וֹ אֶת־זוֹב֗וֹ אֽוֹ־הֶחְתִּ֤ים בְּשָׂרוֹ֙ מִזּוֹב֔וֹ טֻמְאָת֖וֹ הִֽוא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-hamּishshekּa֗b 'ashshe֨r yishshekּa֥b 'ala֛yv hazּa֖b yitema֑ vekaֽl-hakּeli֛y 'ashsher-yeshshe֥b 'ala֖yv yitemaֽ'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)‘Any bed the man with a discharge lies on will be unclean, and anything he sits on will be unclean.

כָּל־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֗ב אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִשְׁכַּ֥ב עָלָ֛יו הַזָּ֖ב יִטְמָ֑א וְכָֽל־הַכְּלִ֛י אֲשֶׁר־יֵשֵׁ֥ב עָלָ֖יו יִטְמָֽא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'i֕yshsh 'ashshe֥r yigּa֖ bּemishshekּab֑o yekabּe֧s bּegada֛yv veracha֥tz bּamּa֖yim vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Anyone who touches his bed must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

וְאִ֕ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִגַּ֖ע בְּמִשְׁכָּב֑וֹ יְכַבֵּ֧ס בְּגָדָ֛יו וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֖יִם וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehayּoshsheb֙ 'aֽl-hakּeli֔y 'ashsher-yeshshe֥b 'ala֖yv hazּa֑b yekabּe֧s bּegada֛yv veracha֥tz bּamּa֖yim vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Whoever sits on anything that the man sat on must wash their clothes and bathe, and they will be unclean till evening.

וְהַיֹּשֵׁב֙ עַֽל־הַכְּלִ֔י אֲשֶׁר־יֵשֵׁ֥ב עָלָ֖יו הַזָּ֑ב יְכַבֵּ֧ס בְּגָדָ֛יו וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֖יִם וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehanּoge֖'a bּibeshsa֣r hazּa֑b yekabּe֧s bּegada֛yv veracha֥tz bּamּa֖yim vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)‘Whoever touches the man who has a discharge must wash their clothes and bathe, and they will be unclean till evening.

וְהַנֹּגֵ֖עַ בִּבְשַׂ֣ר הַזָּ֑ב יְכַבֵּ֧ס בְּגָדָ֛יו וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֖יִם וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekiֽy-yaro֛q hazּa֖b bּatּah֑or vekibּe֧s bּegada֛yv veracha֥tz bּamּa֖yim vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)If the man with the discharge spits on anyone who is clean, they must wash their clothes and bathe, and they will be unclean till evening.

וְכִֽי־יָרֹ֛ק הַזָּ֖ב בַּטָּה֑וֹר וְכִבֶּ֧ס בְּגָדָ֛יו וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֖יִם וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekal-hamּerekּa֗b 'ashshe֨r yirekּa֥b 'ala֛yv hazּa֖b yitemaֽ'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Any saddle the man rides on will be unclean.

וְכָל־הַמֶּרְכָּ֗ב אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִרְכַּ֥ב עָלָ֛יו הַזָּ֖ב יִטְמָֽא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekal-hanּoge֗'a bּekol֙ 'ashshe֣r yiheye֣h tachetּa֔yv yitema֖ 'ad-ha'a֑reb vehanּoshse֣ 'ota֔m yekabּe֧s bּegada֛yv veracha֥tz bּamּa֖yim vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Whoever touches anything that was under him will be unclean till evening; whoever picks up such things must wash their clothes and bathe, and they will be unclean till evening.

וְכָל־הַנֹּגֵ֗עַ בְּכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִהְיֶ֣ה תַחְתָּ֔יו יִטְמָ֖א עַד־הָעָ֑רֶב וְהַנּוֹשֵׂ֣א אוֹתָ֔ם יְכַבֵּ֧ס בְּגָדָ֛יו וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֖יִם וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veko֨l 'ashshe֤r yigּa'-bּo֙ hazּa֔b veyada֖yv lo'-shshata֣p bּamּa֑yim vekibּe֧s bּegada֛yv veracha֥tz bּamּa֖yim vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)If the man with the discharge touches anyone without washing his hands first, they must wash their clothes and bathe, and they will be unclean till evening.

וְכֹ֨ל אֲשֶׁ֤ר יִגַּע־בּוֹ֙ הַזָּ֔ב וְיָדָ֖יו לֹא־שָׁטַ֣ף בַּמָּ֑יִם וְכִבֶּ֧ס בְּגָדָ֛יו וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֖יִם וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ukeliy-che֛reshs 'ashsher-yigּa'-bּ֥o hazּa֖b yishshּabe֑r vekal-kּeliy-'e֔tz yishshּate֖p bּamּaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)A clay pot that he touches must be broken, and any wooden article must be rinsed with water.

וּכְלִי־חֶ֛רֶשׂ אֲשֶׁר־יִגַּע־בּ֥וֹ הַזָּ֖ב יִשָּׁבֵ֑ר וְכָל־כְּלִי־עֵ֔ץ יִשָּׁטֵ֖ף בַּמָּֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekiֽy-yiteha֤r hazּab֙ mizּob֔o vesa֨par l֜o shshibe'a֥t yami֛ym letahorat֖o vekibּe֣s bּegada֑yv veracha֧tz bּeshsar֛o bּema֥yim chayּi֖ym vetaheֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)‘When a man is cleansed from his discharge, he is to count off seven days for his cleansing; he must wash his clothes and bathe in fresh water, and he will be clean.

וְכִֽי־יִטְהַ֤ר הַזָּב֙ מִזּוֹב֔וֹ וְסָ֨פַר ל֜וֹ שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֛ים לְטָהֳרָת֖וֹ וְכִבֶּ֣ס בְּגָדָ֑יו וְרָחַ֧ץ בְּשָׂר֛וֹ בְּמַ֥יִם חַיִּ֖ים וְטָהֵֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubayּ֣om hashshּemiyni֗y yiֽqּaֽch-lo֙ shshetּe֣y tori֔ym '֥o shshene֖y bּene֣y yona֑h uba֣ ׀ lipene֣y yehva֗h 'el-pּe֨tach֙ 'o֣hel mo'e֔d unetana֖m 'el-hakּoheֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)On the eighth day he must take two turtledoves or pigeons and come before the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

וּבַיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁמִינִ֗י יִֽקַּֽח־לוֹ֙ שְׁתֵּ֣י תֹרִ֔ים א֥וֹ שְׁנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֣י יוֹנָ֑ה וּבָ֣א ׀ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה אֶל־פֶּ֨תַח֙ אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד וּנְתָנָ֖ם אֶל־הַכֹּהֵֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ashsa֤h 'otam֙ hakּohe֔n 'echa֣d chatּa֔'t veha'echa֖d 'ola֑h vekipּe֨r 'ala֧yv hakּohe֛n lipene֥y yehva֖h mizּobֽo׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The priest is to sacrifice them, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering, to make atonement for him.

וְעָשָׂ֤ה אֹתָם֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן אֶחָ֣ד חַטָּ֔את וְהָאֶחָ֖ד עֹלָ֑ה וְכִפֶּ֨ר עָלָ֧יו הַכֹּהֵ֛ן לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה מִזּוֹבֽוֹ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'i֕yshsh kּiֽy-tetze֥ mimּe֖nּu shshikebat-za֑ra veracha֥tz bּamּa֛yim 'et-kּal-bּeshsar֖o vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)“‘When a man has an emission of semen, he must bathe his whole body and be unclean till evening.

וְאִ֕ישׁ כִּֽי־תֵצֵ֥א מִמֶּ֖נּוּ שִׁכְבַת־זָ֑רַע וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֛יִם אֶת־כָּל־בְּשָׂר֖וֹ וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekal-bּe֣ged vekal-'֔or 'ashsher-yiheye֥h 'ala֖yv shshikebat-za֑ra vekubּa֥s bּamּa֖yim vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Any clothing or leather that has semen on it must be washed with water and will be unclean till evening.

וְכָל־בֶּ֣גֶד וְכָל־ע֔וֹר אֲשֶׁר־יִהְיֶ֥ה עָלָ֖יו שִׁכְבַת־זָ֑רַע וְכֻבַּ֥ס בַּמַּ֖יִם וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ishshּa֕h 'ashshe֨r yishshekּa֥b 'i֛yshsh 'ota֖hּ shshikebat-za֑ra verachatz֣u bamּa֔yim vetame'֖u 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When a man has sexual relations with a woman and there is an emission of semen, both must bathe with water and will be unclean till evening.

וְאִשָּׁ֕ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִשְׁכַּ֥ב אִ֛ישׁ אֹתָ֖הּ שִׁכְבַת־זָ֑רַע וְרָחֲצ֣וּ בַמַּ֔יִם וְטָמְא֖וּ עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ishshּah֙ kּiֽy-tiheye֣h zaba֔h dּa֛m yiheye֥h zoba֖hּ bּibeshsara֑hּ shshibe'a֤t yamiym֙ tּiheye֣h benidּata֔hּ vekal-hanּoge֥'a bּa֖hּ yitema֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)“‘When a woman has her regular flow of blood, her period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening.

וְאִשָּׁה֙ כִּֽי־תִהְיֶ֣ה זָבָ֔ה דָּ֛ם יִהְיֶ֥ה זֹבָ֖הּ בִּבְשָׂרָ֑הּ שִׁבְעַ֤ת יָמִים֙ תִּהְיֶ֣ה בְנִדָּתָ֔הּ וְכָל־הַנֹּגֵ֥עַ בָּ֖הּ יִטְמָ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekol֩ 'ashshe֨r tּishshekּa֥b 'ala֛yv bּenidּata֖hּ yitema֑ veko֛l 'ashsher-tּeshshe֥b 'ala֖yv yitemaֽ'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Any bed the woman lies on during her period will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean.

וְכֹל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּשְׁכַּ֥ב עָלָ֛יו בְּנִדָּתָ֖הּ יִטְמָ֑א וְכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־תֵּשֵׁ֥ב עָלָ֖יו יִטְמָֽא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekal-hanּoge֖'a bּemishshekּaba֑hּ yekabּe֧s bּegada֛yv veracha֥tz bּamּa֖yim vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Anyone who touches her bed must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

וְכָל־הַנֹּגֵ֖עַ בְּמִשְׁכָּבָ֑הּ יְכַבֵּ֧ס בְּגָדָ֛יו וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֖יִם וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekal-hanּoge֔'a bּekal-kּeli֖y 'ashsher-tּeshshe֣b 'ala֑yv yekabּe֧s bּegada֛yv veracha֥tz bּamּa֖yim vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Anyone who touches anything she sat on must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

וְכָל־הַנֹּגֵ֔עַ בְּכָל־כְּלִ֖י אֲשֶׁר־תֵּשֵׁ֣ב עָלָ֑יו יְכַבֵּ֧ס בְּגָדָ֛יו וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֖יִם וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'i֨m 'aֽl-hamּishshekּa֜b h֗u '֧o 'aֽl-hakּeli֛y 'ashsher-hi֥v yoshsheֽbet-'ala֖yv bּenage'o-b֑o yitema֖ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Whether it is her bed or anything she sat on, when anyone touches it, they will be unclean till evening.

וְאִ֨ם עַֽל־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֜ב ה֗וּא א֧וֹ עַֽל־הַכְּלִ֛י אֲשֶׁר־הִ֥וא יֹשֶֽׁבֶת־עָלָ֖יו בְּנָגְעוֹ־ב֑וֹ יִטְמָ֖א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'i֡m shshakob֩ yishshekּa֨b 'i֜yshsh 'ota֗hּ utehi֤y nidּatahּ֙ 'ala֔yv vetame֖ shshibe'a֣t yami֑ym vekal-hamּishshekּa֛b 'ashsher-yishshekּa֥b 'ala֖yv yitemaֽ'׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)If a man has sexual relations with her and her monthly flow touches him, he will be unclean for seven days; any bed he lies on will be unclean.

וְאִ֡ם שָׁכֹב֩ יִשְׁכַּ֨ב אִ֜ישׁ אֹתָ֗הּ וּתְהִ֤י נִדָּתָהּ֙ עָלָ֔יו וְטָמֵ֖א שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים וְכָל־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֛ב אֲשֶׁר־יִשְׁכַּ֥ב עָלָ֖יו יִטְמָֽא׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ishshּa֡h kּiֽy-yazub֩ z֨ob dּama֜hּ yami֣ym rabּi֗ym bּelo'֙ 'et-nidּata֔hּ '֥o kiֽy-taz֖ub 'al-nidּata֑hּ kּal-yeme֞y z֣ob tume'ata֗hּ kּiyme֧y nidּata֛hּ tּiheye֖h teme'a֥h hiֽv'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days at a time other than her monthly period or a discharge that continues beyond her period, she will be unclean as long as she has the discharge, just as in the days of her period.

וְאִשָּׁ֡ה כִּֽי־יָזוּב֩ ז֨וֹב דָּמָ֜הּ יָמִ֣ים רַבִּ֗ים בְּלֹא֙ עֶת־נִדָּתָ֔הּ א֥וֹ כִֽי־תָז֖וּב עַל־נִדָּתָ֑הּ כָּל־יְמֵ֞י ז֣וֹב טֻמְאָתָ֗הּ כִּימֵ֧י נִדָּתָ֛הּ תִּהְיֶ֖ה טְמֵאָ֥ה הִֽוא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-hamּishshekּa֞b 'ashsher-tּishshekּa֤b 'alayv֙ kּal-yeme֣y zoba֔hּ kּemishshekּa֥b nidּata֖hּ yiֽheyeh-lּa֑hּ vekaֽl-hakּeliy֙ 'ashshe֣r tּeshshe֣b 'ala֔yv tame֣ yiheye֔h kּetume'a֖t nidּataֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Any bed she lies on while her discharge continues will be unclean, as is her bed during her monthly period, and anything she sits on will be unclean, as during her period.

כָּל־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֞ב אֲשֶׁר־תִּשְׁכַּ֤ב עָלָיו֙ כָּל־יְמֵ֣י זוֹבָ֔הּ כְּמִשְׁכַּ֥ב נִדָּתָ֖הּ יִֽהְיֶה־לָּ֑הּ וְכָֽל־הַכְּלִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תֵּשֵׁ֣ב עָלָ֔יו טָמֵ֣א יִהְיֶ֔ה כְּטֻמְאַ֖ת נִדָּתָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekal-hanּoge֥'a bּa֖m yitema֑ vekibּe֧s bּegada֛yv veracha֥tz bּamּa֖yim vetame֥ 'ad-ha'aֽreb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Anyone who touches them will be unclean; they must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

וְכָל־הַנּוֹגֵ֥עַ בָּ֖ם יִטְמָ֑א וְכִבֶּ֧ס בְּגָדָ֛יו וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֖יִם וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'iֽm-tahara֖h mizּoba֑hּ vesa֥perah lּa֛hּ shshibe'a֥t yami֖ym ve'acha֥r tּitehaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)“‘When she is cleansed from her discharge, she must count off seven days, and after that she will be clean.

וְאִֽם־טָהֲרָ֖ה מִזּוֹבָ֑הּ וְסָ֥פְרָה לָּ֛הּ שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים וְאַחַ֥ר תִּטְהָֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubayּ֣om hashshּemiyni֗y tּiֽqּaֽch-lahּ֙ shshetּe֣y tori֔ym '֥o shshene֖y bּene֣y yona֑h vehebiy'a֤h 'otam֙ 'el-hakּohe֔n 'el-pּe֖tach 'o֥hel mo'eֽd׃

Edified Edition (EDE)“‘You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not defile my dwelling place which is among them.’

וְהִזַּרְתֶּ֥ם אֶת־בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מִטֻּמְאָתָ֑ם וְלֹ֤א יָמֻ֨תוּ֙ בְּטֻמְאָתָ֔ם בְּטַמְּאָ֥ם אֶת־מִשְׁכָּנִ֖י אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּתוֹכָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): zo֥'t tּora֖t hazּa֑b va'ashshe֨r tּetze֥ mimּe֛nּu shshikebat-ze֖ra letame'ah-baֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)These are the regulations for a man with a discharge or an emission,

זֹ֥את תּוֹרַ֖ת הַזָּ֑ב וַאֲשֶׁ֨ר תֵּצֵ֥א מִמֶּ֛נּוּ שִׁכְבַת־זֶ֖רַע לְטָמְאָה־בָֽהּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)for a woman in her monthly period, and for anyone who is ceremonially unclean.

וְהַדָּוָה֙ בְּנִדָּתָ֔הּ וְהַזָּב֙ אֶת־זוֹב֔וֹ לַזָּכָ֖ר וְלַנְּקֵבָ֑ה וּלְאִ֕ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִשְׁכַּ֖ב עִם־טְמֵאָֽה׃פ
