Chapter 24
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֥r yehva֖h 'el-moshshe֥h lּe'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD said to Moses,

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): tza֞v 'et-bּene֣y yishsera'e֗l veyiqech֨u 'ele֜yka shshe֣men za֥yit za֛ke kּati֖yt lamּa'֑or leha'alo֥t ne֖r tּamiֽyd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning continually.

צַ֞ו אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְיִקְח֨וּ אֵלֶ֜יךָ שֶׁ֣מֶן זַ֥יִת זָ֛ךְ כָּתִ֖ית לַמָּא֑וֹר לְהַעֲלֹ֥ת נֵ֖ר תָּמִֽיד׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): michutz֩ leparo֨ket ha'edu֜t bּe'o֣hel mo'e֗d ya'aroke֩ 'ot֨o 'aharo֜n me'e֧reb 'ad-bּo֛qer lipene֥y yehva֖h tּami֑yd chuqּa֥t 'ola֖m ledoroֽteykeֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Outside the curtain that shields the tablets of the covenant law in the Tent of Meeting, Aaron is to keep the lamps burning before the LORD from evening till morning, continually. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.

מִחוּץ֩ לְפָרֹ֨כֶת הָעֵדֻ֜ת בְּאֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֗ד יַעֲרֹךְ֩ אֹת֨וֹ אַהֲרֹ֜ן מֵעֶ֧רֶב עַד־בֹּ֛קֶר לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה תָּמִ֑יד חֻקַּ֥ת עוֹלָ֖ם לְדֹרֹֽתֵיכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): a֚l hamּenora֣h hatּehora֔h ya'aro֖ke 'et-hanּer֑ot lipene֥y yehva֖h tּamiֽyd׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)The lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD must be kept burning continually.

עַ֚ל הַמְּנֹרָ֣ה הַטְּהֹרָ֔ה יַעֲרֹ֖ךְ אֶת־הַנֵּר֑וֹת לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה תָּמִֽיד׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): velaqachetּa֣ so֔let ve'apiyta֣ 'ota֔hּ shshetּe֥ym 'eshsere֖h chalּ֑ot shsheney֙ 'eshseroni֔ym yiheye֖h haֽchalּa֥h ha'echaֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Take the finest flour and bake twelve loaves of bread, using two-tenths of an ephah for each loaf.

וְלָקַחְתָּ֣ סֹ֔לֶת וְאָפִיתָ֣ אֹתָ֔הּ שְׁתֵּ֥ים עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה חַלּ֑וֹת שְׁנֵי֙ עֶשְׂרֹנִ֔ים יִהְיֶ֖ה הַֽחַלָּ֥ה הָאֶחָֽת׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): veshsametּa֥ 'ota֛m shshetּa֥yim maֽ'arak֖ot shshe֣shsh haֽmּa'ara֑ket 'a֛l hashshּulecha֥n hatּaho֖r lipene֥y yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Arrange them in two stacks, six in each stack, on the table of pure gold before the LORD.

וְשַׂמְתָּ֥ אוֹתָ֛ם שְׁתַּ֥יִם מַֽעֲרָכ֖וֹת שֵׁ֣שׁ הַֽמַּעֲרָ֑כֶת עַ֛ל הַשֻּׁלְחָ֥ן הַטָּהֹ֖ר לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): venatatּa֥ 'al-haֽmּa'are֖ket lebona֣h zakּa֑h vehayeta֤h lalּe֨chem֙ le'azekּara֔h 'ishshּe֖h laֽyhvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)By each stack put some pure incense as a memorial portion to represent the bread and to be a food offering presented to the LORD.

וְנָתַתָּ֥ עַל־הַֽמַּעֲרֶ֖כֶת לְבֹנָ֣ה זַכָּ֑ה וְהָיְתָ֤ה לַלֶּ֨חֶם֙ לְאַזְכָּרָ֔ה אִשֶּׁ֖ה לַֽיהוָֽה׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּey֨om hashshּabּa֜t bּey֣om hashshּabּa֗t yaֽ'areke֛nּu lipene֥y yehva֖h tּami֑yd me'e֥t bּeneֽy-yishsera'e֖l bּeri֥yt 'olaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)This bread is to be set out before the LORD regularly, Sabbath after Sabbath, on behalf of the Israelites, as a lasting covenant.

בְּי֨וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֜ת בְּי֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֗ת יַֽעַרְכֶ֛נּוּ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה תָּמִ֑יד מֵאֵ֥ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּרִ֥ית עוֹלָֽם׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaֽyetah֙ le'aharo֣n ulebana֔yv va'akalu֖hu bּemaq֣om qado֑shsh kּi֡y qodeshsh֩ qֽadashshi֨ym h֥u l֛o me'ishshּe֥y yehva֖h chaq-'olaֽm׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in a holy place.

וְהָֽיְתָה֙ לְאַהֲרֹ֣ן וּלְבָנָ֔יו וַאֲכָלֻ֖הוּ בְּמָק֣וֹם קָדֹ֑שׁ כִּ֡י קֹדֶשׁ֩ קָֽדָשִׁ֨ים ה֥וּא ל֛וֹ מֵאִשֵּׁ֥י יְהוָ֖ה חָק־עוֹלָֽם׃ס

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּetze'֙ bּen-'ishshּa֣h yishsere'eli֔yt vehu'֙ bּen-'i֣yshsh mitzeri֔y bּet֖oke bּene֣y yishsera'e֑l vayּinּatzu֙ bּaֽmּachane֔h bּe֚n hayּishsere'eli֔yt ve'i֖yshsh hayּishsere'eliֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now the son of an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father went out among the Israelites, and a fight broke out in the camp between him and an Israelite.

וַיֵּצֵא֙ בֶּן־אִשָּׁ֣ה יִשְׂרְאֵלִ֔ית וְהוּא֙ בֶּן־אִ֣ישׁ מִצְרִ֔י בְּת֖וֹךְ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּנָּצוּ֙ בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה בֶּ֚ן הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִ֔ית וְאִ֖ישׁ הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִֽי׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): va֠yּiqּob bּen-haֽ'ishshּa֨h hayּishsere'eli֤yt 'et-hashshּem֙ vayeqalּe֔l vayּabi֥y'u 'ot֖o 'el-moshshe֑h veshshe֥m 'imּ֛o shshelomi֥yt bּat-dּiberi֖y lematּeh-daֽn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name with a curse; so they brought him to Moses.

וַ֠יִּקֹּב בֶּן־הָֽאִשָּׁ֨ה הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִ֤ית אֶת־הַשֵּׁם֙ וַיְקַלֵּ֔ל וַיָּבִ֥יאוּ אֹת֖וֹ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וְשֵׁ֥ם אִמּ֛וֹ שְׁלֹמִ֥ית בַּת־דִּבְרִ֖י לְמַטֵּה־דָֽן׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּanּiychu֖hu bּamּishshema֑r lipero֥shsh lahe֖m 'al-pּi֥y yehvaֽh׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)They put him in custody until the will of the LORD should be made clear to them.

וַיַּנִּיחֻ֖הוּ בַּמִּשְׁמָ֑ר לִפְרֹ֥שׁ לָהֶ֖ם עַל־פִּ֥י יְהוָֽה׃פ

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֥r yehva֖h 'el-moshshe֥h lּe'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD said to Moses:

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): hotze֣ 'et-haֽmeqalּe֗l 'el-michutz֙ laֽmּachane֔h vesamek֧u kaֽl-hashshּome'i֛ym 'et-yedeyhe֖m 'al-ro'shsh֑o veragem֥u 'ot֖o kּal-ha'edaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Take the blasphemer outside the camp... the entire assembly is to stone him.

הוֹצֵ֣א אֶת־הַֽמְקַלֵּ֗ל אֶל־מִחוּץ֙ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה וְסָמְכ֧וּ כָֽל־הַשֹּׁמְעִ֛ים אֶת־יְדֵיהֶ֖ם עַל־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וְרָגְמ֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ כָּל־הָעֵדָֽה׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'el-bּene֥y yishsera'e֖l tּedabּe֣r le'mo֑r 'i֥yshsh 'i֛yshsh kּiֽy-yeqalּe֥l 'eloha֖yv venashsa֥ chete'ֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Say to the Israelites: ‘Anyone who curses their God will be held responsible;

וְאֶל־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל תְּדַבֵּ֣ר לֵאמֹ֑ר אִ֥ישׁ אִ֛ישׁ כִּֽי־יְקַלֵּ֥ל אֱלֹהָ֖יו וְנָשָׂ֥א חֶטְאֽוֹ׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): venoqe֤b shshem-yehvah֙ m֣ot yuma֔t rag֥om yiregּemu-b֖o kּal-ha'eda֑h kּagּer֙ kּaֽ'ezera֔ch bּenaqebo-shshe֖m yumaֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD is to be put to death.

וְנֹקֵ֤ב שֵׁם־יְהוָה֙ מ֣וֹת יוּמָ֔ת רָג֥וֹם יִרְגְּמוּ־ב֖וֹ כָּל־הָעֵדָ֑ה כַּגֵּר֙ כָּֽאֶזְרָ֔ח בְּנָקְבוֹ־שֵׁ֖ם יוּמָֽת׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'i֕yshsh kּi֥y yakּe֖h kּal-ne֣peshsh 'ada֑m m֖ot yumaֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)“‘Anyone who takes the life of a human being is to be put to death.

וְאִ֕ישׁ כִּ֥י יַכֶּ֖ה כָּל־נֶ֣פֶשׁ אָדָ֑ם מ֖וֹת יוּמָֽת׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): umakּe֥h neֽpeshsh-bּehema֖h yeshshalּeme֑nּah ne֖peshsh tּa֥chat naֽpeshsh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Anyone who takes the life of someone’s animal must make restitution, life for life.

וּמַכֵּ֥ה נֶֽפֶשׁ־בְּהֵמָ֖ה יְשַׁלְּמֶ֑נָּה נֶ֖פֶשׁ תַּ֥חַת נָֽפֶשׁ׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'i֕yshsh kּiֽy-yitּe֥n m֖um bּa'amiyt֑o kּa'ashshe֣r 'ashsa֔h kּe֖n ye'a֥shseh lּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Anyone who injures their neighbour is to be injured in the same way:

וְאִ֕ישׁ כִּֽי־יִתֵּ֥ן מ֖וּם בַּעֲמִית֑וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה כֵּ֖ן יֵעָ֥שֶׂה לּֽוֹ׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): shshe֚ber tּa֣chat shshe֔ber 'a֚yin tּa֣chat 'a֔yin shshe֖n tּa֣chat shshe֑n kּa'ashshe֨r yitּe֥n mum֙ bּaֽ'ada֔m kּe֖n yinּa֥ten bּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. As they have injured the other, so they are to be injured.

שֶׁ֚בֶר תַּ֣חַת שֶׁ֔בֶר עַ֚יִן תַּ֣חַת עַ֔יִן שֵׁ֖ן תַּ֣חַת שֵׁ֑ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר יִתֵּ֥ן מוּם֙ בָּֽאָדָ֔ם כֵּ֖ן יִנָּ֥תֶן בּֽוֹ׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): umakּe֥h behema֖h yeshshalּeme֑nּah umakּe֥h 'ada֖m yumaֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Whoever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever kills a human being is to be put to death.

וּמַכֵּ֥ה בְהֵמָ֖ה יְשַׁלְּמֶ֑נָּה וּמַכֵּ֥ה אָדָ֖ם יוּמָֽת׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): mishshepּa֤t 'echad֙ yiheye֣h lake֔m kּagּe֥r kּa'ezera֖ch yiheye֑h kּi֛y 'ani֥y yehva֖h 'eloheykeֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)You are to have the same law for the foreigner and the native-born. I am the LORD your God.’

מִשְׁפַּ֤ט אֶחָד֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה לָכֶ֔ם כַּגֵּ֥ר כָּאֶזְרָ֖ח יִהְיֶ֑ה כִּ֛י אֲנִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֣r moshsheh֮ 'el-bּene֣y yishsera'el֒ vayּotzi֣y'u 'et-haֽmeqalּe֗l 'el-michutz֙ laֽmּachane֔h vayּiregּem֥u 'ot֖o 'a֑ben ubeneֽy-yishsera'e֣l 'ashs֔u kּֽa'ashshe֛r tziua֥h yehva֖h 'et-moshsheֽh׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him. The Israelites did as the LORD commanded Moses.

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר מֹשֶׁה֮ אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַיּוֹצִ֣יאוּ אֶת־הַֽמְקַלֵּ֗ל אֶל־מִחוּץ֙ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה וַיִּרְגְּמ֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ אָ֑בֶן וּבְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל עָשׂ֔וּ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־מֹשֶֽׁה׃פ
