Chapter 3

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'oma֗r shshime'u-na'֙ ra'shshe֣y ya'aqo֔b uqetziyne֖y bּe֣yt yishsera'e֑l hal֣o lake֔m lada֖'at 'et-hamּishshepּaֽt׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And I said, "Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and you princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgement?"

וָאֹמַ֗ר שִׁמְעוּ־נָא֙ רָאשֵׁ֣י יַעֲקֹ֔ב וּקְצִינֵ֖י בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הֲל֣וֹא לָכֶ֔ם לָדַ֖עַת אֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shso֥ne'ey t֖ob ve'o֣habey r'h ra֑ gּozele֤y 'oram֙ meֽ'aleyhe֔m ushshe'era֖m me'a֥l 'atzemotaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;

שֹׂ֥נְאֵי ט֖וֹב וְאֹ֣הֲבֵי רעה רָ֑ע גֹּזְלֵ֤י עוֹרָם֙ מֵֽעֲלֵיהֶ֔ם וּשְׁאֵרָ֖ם מֵעַ֥ל עַצְמוֹתָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'ashshe֣r 'akelu֮ shshe'e֣r 'amּiy֒ ve'oram֙ me'aleyhe֣m hipeshshi֔ytu ve'et-'atzemoֽteyhe֖m pּitzּe֑chu upareshsu֙ kּa'ashshe֣r bּasּi֔yr ukebashsa֖r bּet֥oke qalּaֽchat׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Who also eat the flesh of My people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר אָכְלוּ֮ שְׁאֵ֣ר עַמִּי֒ וְעוֹרָם֙ מֵעֲלֵיהֶ֣ם הִפְשִׁ֔יטוּ וְאֶת־עַצְמֹֽתֵיהֶ֖ם פִּצֵּ֑חוּ וּפָרְשׂוּ֙ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּסִּ֔יר וּכְבָשָׂ֖ר בְּת֥וֹךְ קַלָּֽחַת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): a֚z yize'aq֣u 'el-yehva֔h velo֥ ya'ane֖h 'ota֑m veyasetּe֨r pּana֤yv mehem֙ bּa'e֣t hahi֔y kּa'ashshe֥r here֖'u ma'aleleyheֽm׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Then shall they cry to the LORD, but He will not hear them: He will even hide His face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

אָ֚ז יִזְעֲק֣וּ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה וְלֹ֥א יַעֲנֶ֖ה אוֹתָ֑ם וְיַסְתֵּ֨ר פָּנָ֤יו מֵהֶם֙ בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֔יא כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר הֵרֵ֖עוּ מַעַלְלֵיהֶֽם׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֚h 'ama֣r yehva֔h 'al-hanּebiy'i֖ym hamּate'i֣ym 'et-'amּi֑y hanּoshsheki֤ym bּeshshinּeyhem֙ veqare'֣u shshal֔om va'ashsher֙ lo'-yitּe֣n 'al-pּiyhe֔m veqidּeshsh֥u 'ala֖yv milechamaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Thus says the LORD concerning the prophets that make My people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, "Peace;" and he that puts not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.

כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה עַל־הַנְּבִיאִ֖ים הַמַּתְעִ֣ים אֶת־עַמִּ֑י הַנֹּשְׁכִ֤ים בְּשִׁנֵּיהֶם֙ וְקָרְא֣וּ שָׁל֔וֹם וַאֲשֶׁר֙ לֹא־יִתֵּ֣ן עַל־פִּיהֶ֔ם וְקִדְּשׁ֥וּ עָלָ֖יו מִלְחָמָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֞n la֤yelah lakem֙ meֽchaz֔on vechashsheka֥h lake֖m miqּeso֑m uba֤'ah hashshּe֨meshsh֙ 'al-hanּebiy'i֔ym veqada֥r 'aleyhe֖m hayּֽom׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore night shall be to you, that you shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark to you, that you shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.

לָכֵ֞ן לַ֤יְלָה לָכֶם֙ מֵֽחָז֔וֹן וְחָשְׁכָ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם מִקְּסֹ֑ם וּבָ֤אָה הַשֶּׁ֨מֶשׁ֙ עַל־הַנְּבִיאִ֔ים וְקָדַ֥ר עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם הַיּֽוֹם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubo֣shshu hachozi֗ym vechaֽperu֙ haqּo֣semi֔ym ve'at֥u 'al-shsapa֖m kּulּa֑m kּi֛y 'e֥yn ma'ane֖h 'elohiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yes, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.

וּבֹ֣שׁוּ הַחֹזִ֗ים וְחָֽפְרוּ֙ הַקֹּ֣סְמִ֔ים וְעָט֥וּ עַל־שָׂפָ֖ם כֻּלָּ֑ם כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין מַעֲנֵ֖ה אֱלֹהִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ula֗m 'anoki֞y male֤'tiy ko֨cha֙ 'et-r֣ucha yehva֔h umishshepּa֖t ugebura֑h lehagּi֤yd leyaֽ'aqob֙ pּishshe'֔o uleyishsera'e֖l chatּa'tֽo׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgement, and of might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

וְאוּלָ֗ם אָנֹכִ֞י מָלֵ֤אתִי כֹ֨חַ֙ אֶת־ר֣וּחַ יְהוָ֔ה וּמִשְׁפָּ֖ט וּגְבוּרָ֑ה לְהַגִּ֤יד לְיַֽעֲקֹב֙ פִּשְׁע֔וֹ וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל חַטָּאתֽוֹ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshime'u-na֣ zo֗'t ra'shshey֙ bּe֣yt ya'aqo֔b uqetziyne֖y bּe֣yt yishsera'e֑l haֽmata'abi֣ym mishshepּa֔t ve'e֥t kּal-hayeshshara֖h ye'aqּeֽshshu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Hear this, I pray you, you heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgement, and pervert all equity.

שִׁמְעוּ־נָ֣א זֹ֗את רָאשֵׁי֙ בֵּ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֔ב וּקְצִינֵ֖י בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הַֽמֲתַעֲבִ֣ים מִשְׁפָּ֔ט וְאֵ֥ת כָּל־הַיְשָׁרָ֖ה יְעַקֵּֽשׁוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּone֥h tziyּ֖on bּedami֑ym viyrushshala֖im bּe'avelaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.

בֹּנֶ֥ה צִיּ֖וֹן בְּדָמִ֑ים וִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם בְּעַוְלָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ra'shshe֣yha ׀ bּeshsho֣chad yishshepּo֗tu vekohane֨yha֙ bּimechi֣yr yor֔u unebiy'e֖yha bּeke֣sep yiqeso֑mu ve'al-yehvah֙ yishshּa'e֣nu le'mo֔r hal֤o yehvah֙ bּeqirebּe֔nu loֽ'-tab֥o 'ale֖ynu ra'aֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, "Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us."

רָאשֶׁ֣יהָ ׀ בְּשֹׁ֣חַד יִשְׁפֹּ֗טוּ וְכֹהֲנֶ֨יהָ֙ בִּמְחִ֣יר יוֹר֔וּ וּנְבִיאֶ֖יהָ בְּכֶ֣סֶף יִקְסֹ֑מוּ וְעַל־יְהוָה֙ יִשָּׁעֵ֣נוּ לֵאמֹ֔ר הֲל֤וֹא יְהוָה֙ בְּקִרְבֵּ֔נוּ לֹֽא־תָב֥וֹא עָלֵ֖ינוּ רָעָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): laken֙ bּigelaleke֔m tziyּ֖on shsade֣h teֽchare֑shsh viyrushshalai֨m֙ 'iyּi֣yn tּiֽheye֔h veha֥r habּa֖yit lebam֥ot yaֽ'ar׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

לָכֵן֙ בִּגְלַלְכֶ֔ם צִיּ֖וֹן שָׂדֶ֣ה תֵֽחָרֵ֑שׁ וִירוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ עִיִּ֣ין תִּֽהְיֶ֔ה וְהַ֥ר הַבַּ֖יִת לְבָמ֥וֹת יָֽעַר׃פ
