Nehemiah

Chapter 3

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֡qam 'eleyashshiyb֩ hakּohe֨n hagּad֜ol ve'echa֣yv hakּohani֗ym vayּibenu֙ 'et-shsha֣'ar hatzּo֔'n he֣mּah qidּeshsh֔uhu vֽayּa'ami֖ydu dּaletota֑yv ve'ad-migedּa֤l hamּe'ah֙ qidּeshsh֔uhu 'a֖d migedּa֥l chanane'eֽl׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests went to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate. They dedicated it and set its doors in place, building as far as the Tower of the Hundred, which they dedicated, and as far as the Tower of Hananel.

וַיָּ֡קָם אֶלְיָשִׁיב֩ הַכֹּהֵ֨ן הַגָּד֜וֹל וְאֶחָ֣יו הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים וַיִּבְנוּ֙ אֶת־שַׁ֣עַר הַצֹּ֔אן הֵ֣מָּה קִדְּשׁ֔וּהוּ וַֽיַּעֲמִ֖ידוּ דַּלְתֹתָ֑יו וְעַד־מִגְדַּ֤ל הַמֵּאָה֙ קִדְּשׁ֔וּהוּ עַ֖ד מִגְדַּ֥ל חֲנַנְאֵֽל׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'al-yad֥o ban֖u 'aneshshe֣y yerech֑o s ve'al-yad֣o bana֔h zakּ֖ur bּen-'imeriֽy׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The men of Jericho built the adjoining section, and Zaccur son of Imri built next to them.

וְעַל־יָד֥וֹ בָנ֖וּ אַנְשֵׁ֣י יְרֵח֑וֹ ס וְעַל־יָד֣וֹ בָנָ֔ה זַכּ֖וּר בֶּן־אִמְרִֽי׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et֙ shsha֣'ar hadּagi֔ym bּan֖u bּene֣y hasּena'a֑h he֣mּah qer֔uhu vֽayּa'ami֨ydu֙ dּaletota֔yv mane'ula֖yv uberiychaֽyv׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The Fish Gate was rebuilt by the sons of Hassenaah. They laid its beams and put its doors and bolts and bars in place.

וְאֵת֙ שַׁ֣עַר הַדָּגִ֔ים בָּנ֖וּ בְּנֵ֣י הַסְּנָאָ֑ה הֵ֣מָּה קֵר֔וּהוּ וַֽיַּעֲמִ֨ידוּ֙ דַּלְתֹתָ֔יו מַנְעוּלָ֖יו וּבְרִיחָֽיו׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'al-yada֣m hechezi֗yq merem֤ot bּen-'uriyּah֙ bּen-haqּ֔otz s ve'al-yada֣m hechezi֔yq meshshulּa֥m bּen-bּerekeya֖h bּen-meshsheyzabe'e֑l s ve'al-yada֣m heֽchezi֔yq tzad֖oq bּeֽn-bּa'anaֽ'׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Meremoth son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, repaired the next section. Next to him Meshullam son of Berekiah, the son of Meshezabel, made repairs, and next to him Zadok son of Baana also made repairs.

וְעַל־יָדָ֣ם הֶחֱזִ֗יק מְרֵמ֤וֹת בֶּן־אוּרִיָּה֙ בֶּן־הַקּ֔וֹץ ס וְעַל־יָדָ֣ם הֶחֱזִ֔יק מְשֻׁלָּ֥ם בֶּן־בֶּרֶכְיָ֖ה בֶּן־מְשֵׁיזַבְאֵ֑ל ס וְעַל־יָדָ֣ם הֶֽחֱזִ֔יק צָד֖וֹק בֶּֽן־בַּעֲנָֽא׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'al-yada֖m hechezi֣yqu hatּeqo'i֑ym ve'adּiֽyreyhem֙ lo'-hebi֣y'u tzauara֔m bּa'aboda֖t 'adoneyheֽm׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The next section was repaired by the men of Tekoa, but their nobles would not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.

וְעַל־יָדָ֖ם הֶחֱזִ֣יקוּ הַתְּקוֹעִ֑ים וְאַדִּֽירֵיהֶם֙ לֹא־הֵבִ֣יאוּ צַוָּרָ֔ם בַּעֲבֹדַ֖ת אֲדֹנֵיהֶֽם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et֩ shsha֨'ar hayeshshana֜h hechezi֗yqu yֽoyada'֙ bּen-pּase֔cha umeshshulּa֖m bּen-bּesֽodeya֑h he֣mּah qer֔uhu vֽayּa'ami֨ydu֙ dּaletota֔yv umane'ula֖yv uberiychaֽyv׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The Jeshanah Gate was repaired by Joiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah. They laid its beams and put its doors and bolts and bars in place.

וְאֵת֩ שַׁ֨עַר הַיְשָׁנָ֜ה הֶחֱזִ֗יקוּ יֽוֹיָדָע֙ בֶּן־פָּסֵ֔חַ וּמְשֻׁלָּ֖ם בֶּן־בְּסֽוֹדְיָ֑ה הֵ֣מָּה קֵר֔וּהוּ וַֽיַּעֲמִ֨ידוּ֙ דַּלְתֹתָ֔יו וּמַנְעֻלָ֖יו וּבְרִיחָֽיו׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'al-yada֨m hechezi֜yq melateya֣h hagּibe'oni֗y veyadon֙ hamּero֣noti֔y 'aneshshe֥y gibe'֖on vehamּitzepּa֑h lekisּe֕ pּacha֖t 'e֥ber hanּahaֽr׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to them, repairs were made by men from Gibeon and Mizpah, Melatiah of Gibeon and Jadon of Meronoth, places under the authority of the governor of Trans-Euphrates.

וְעַל־יָדָ֨ם הֶחֱזִ֜יק מְלַטְיָ֣ה הַגִּבְעֹנִ֗י וְיָדוֹן֙ הַמֵּרֹ֣נֹתִ֔י אַנְשֵׁ֥י גִבְע֖וֹן וְהַמִּצְפָּ֑ה לְכִסֵּ֕א פַּחַ֖ת עֵ֥בֶר הַנָּהָֽר׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): al-yad֣o hechezi֗yq 'uzּiy'e֤l bּeֽn-charehayah֙ tzֽorepi֔ym s ve'al-yad֣o hechezi֔yq chananeya֖h bּen-haraqּachi֑ym vayּaֽ'azebu֙ yer֣ushshalai֔m 'a֖d hachoma֥h harechabaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Uzziel son of Harhaiah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired the next section; and Hananiah, one of the perfume-makers, made repairs next to that. They restored Jerusalem as far as the Broad Wall.

עַל־יָד֣וֹ הֶחֱזִ֗יק עֻזִּיאֵ֤ל בֶּֽן־חַרְהֲיָה֙ צֽוֹרְפִ֔ים ס וְעַל־יָד֣וֹ הֶחֱזִ֔יק חֲנַנְיָ֖ה בֶּן־הָרַקָּחִ֑ים וַיַּֽעַזְבוּ֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם עַ֖ד הַחוֹמָ֥ה הָרְחָבָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'al-yada֤m hecheziyq֙ repaya֣h ben-ch֔ur shsa֕r chatzi֖y pּe֥leke yerushshalaiֽm׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Rephaiah son of Hur, ruler of a half-district of Jerusalem, repaired the next section.

וְעַל־יָדָ֤ם הֶחֱזִיק֙ רְפָיָ֣ה בֶן־ח֔וּר שַׂ֕ר חֲצִ֖י פֶּ֥לֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'al-yada֧m hechezi֛yq yedaya֥h ben-charuma֖p vene֣ged bּeyt֑o s ve'al-yad֣o hechezi֔yq chatּ֖ushsh bּen-chashshabeneyaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Adjoining this, Jedaiah son of Harumaph made repairs opposite his house, and Hattush son of Hashabneiah made repairs next to him.

וְעַל־יָדָ֧ם הֶחֱזִ֛יק יְדָיָ֥ה בֶן־חֲרוּמַ֖ף וְנֶ֣גֶד בֵּית֑וֹ ס וְעַל־יָד֣וֹ הֶחֱזִ֔יק חַטּ֖וּשׁ בֶּן־חֲשַׁבְנְיָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): midּa֣h shsheni֗yt hecheziyq֙ malekּiyּa֣h ben-chari֔m vechashshּ֖ub bּen-pּacha֣t mo'a֑b ve'e֖t migedּa֥l hatּanּuriֽym׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Malkijah son of Harim and Hasshub son of Pahath-Moab repaired another section and the Tower of the Ovens.

מִדָּ֣ה שֵׁנִ֗ית הֶחֱזִיק֙ מַלְכִּיָּ֣ה בֶן־חָרִ֔ם וְחַשּׁ֖וּב בֶּן־פַּחַ֣ת מוֹאָ֑ב וְאֵ֖ת מִגְדַּ֥ל הַתַּנּוּרִֽים׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'al-yad֣o hechezi֗yq shshalּum֙ bּen-halּoche֔shsh shsa֕r chatzi֖y pּe֣leke yerushshala֑im h֖u ubenotaֽyv׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Shallum son of Hallohesh, ruler of a half-district of Jerusalem, repaired the next section with the help of his daughters.

וְעַל־יָד֣וֹ הֶחֱזִ֗יק שַׁלּוּם֙ בֶּן־הַלּוֹחֵ֔שׁ שַׂ֕ר חֲצִ֖י פֶּ֣לֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם ה֖וּא וּבְנוֹתָֽיו׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): et֩ shsha֨'ar hagּa֜ye hechezi֣yq chanun֮ veyoshshebe֣y zanocha֒ he֣mּah ban֔uhu vֽayּa'ami֨ydu֙ dּaletota֔yv mane'ula֖yv uberiycha֑yv ve'e֤lep 'amּah֙ bּachoma֔h 'a֖d shsha֥'ar hashshapֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The Valley Gate was repaired by Hanun and the residents of Zanoah. They rebuilt it and put its doors and bolts and bars in place. They also repaired a thousand cubits of the wall as far as the Dung Gate.

אֵת֩ שַׁ֨עַר הַגַּ֜יְא הֶחֱזִ֣יק חָנוּן֮ וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י זָנוֹחַ֒ הֵ֣מָּה בָנ֔וּהוּ וַֽיַּעֲמִ֨ידוּ֙ דַּלְתֹתָ֔יו מַנְעֻלָ֖יו וּבְרִיחָ֑יו וְאֶ֤לֶף אַמָּה֙ בַּחוֹמָ֔ה עַ֖ד שַׁ֥עַר הָשֲׁפֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'e֣t ׀ shsha֣'ar ha'ashshepּ֗ot hecheziyq֙ malekּiyּa֣h ben-reka֔b shsa֖r pּe֣leke bּeyt-hakּa֑rem h֣u yibene֔nּu veya'amiyd֙ dּaletota֔yv mane'ula֖yv uberiychaֽyv׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The Dung Gate was repaired by Malkijah son of Rekab, ruler of the district of Beth Hakkerem. He rebuilt it and put its doors and bolts and bars in place.

וְאֵ֣ת ׀ שַׁ֣עַר הָאַשְׁפּ֗וֹת הֶחֱזִיק֙ מַלְכִּיָּ֣ה בֶן־רֵכָ֔ב שַׂ֖ר פֶּ֣לֶךְ בֵּית־הַכָּ֑רֶם ה֣וּא יִבְנֶ֔נּוּ וְיַעֲמִיד֙ דַּלְתֹתָ֔יו מַנְעֻלָ֖יו וּבְרִיחָֽיו׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et֩ shsha֨'ar ha'a֜yin he֠cheziyq shshalּ֣un bּen-kּal-chozeh֮ shsa֣r pּe֣leke hamּitzepּah֒ h֤u yibene֨nּu֙ viytaֽlele֔nּu vy'mydv veya'amiyd֙ dּaletota֔yv mane'ula֖yv uberiycha֑yv ve֠'et choma֞t bּereka֤t hashshּe֨lach֙ legan-hamּe֔leke ve'ad-haֽmּa'al֔ot hayּored֖ot me'i֥yr dּaviֽyd׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallum son of Kol-Hozeh, ruler of the district of Mizpah. He rebuilt it, roofing it over and putting its doors and bolts and bars in place. He also repaired the wall of the Pool of Siloam, by the King’s Garden, as far as the steps going down from the City of David.

וְאֵת֩ שַׁ֨עַר הָעַ֜יִן הֶ֠חֱזִיק שַׁלּ֣וּן בֶּן־כָּל־חֹזֶה֮ שַׂ֣ר פֶּ֣לֶךְ הַמִּצְפָּה֒ ה֤וּא יִבְנֶ֨נּוּ֙ וִיטַֽלְלֶ֔נּוּ ויעמידו וְיַעֲמִיד֙ דַּלְתֹתָ֔יו מַנְעֻלָ֖יו וּבְרִיחָ֑יו וְ֠אֵת חוֹמַ֞ת בְּרֵכַ֤ת הַשֶּׁ֨לַח֙ לְגַן־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְעַד־הַֽמַּעֲל֔וֹת הַיּוֹרְד֖וֹת מֵעִ֥יר דָּוִֽיד׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): achara֤yv hecheziyq֙ nechemeya֣h ben-'azebּ֔uq shsa֕r chatzi֖y pּe֣leke bּeֽyt-tz֑ur 'ad-ne֨ged֙ qibere֣y davi֔yd ve'ad-habּerekah֙ ha'ashsuya֔h ve'a֖d bּe֥yt hagּibּoriֽym׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Beyond him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk, ruler of a half-district of Beth Zur, made repairs up to a point opposite the tombs of David, as far as the artificial pool and the House of the Heroes.

אַחֲרָ֤יו הֶחֱזִיק֙ נְחֶמְיָ֣ה בֶן־עַזְבּ֔וּק שַׂ֕ר חֲצִ֖י פֶּ֣לֶךְ בֵּֽית־צ֑וּר עַד־נֶ֨גֶד֙ קִבְרֵ֣י דָוִ֔יד וְעַד־הַבְּרֵכָה֙ הָעֲשׂוּיָ֔ה וְעַ֖ד בֵּ֥ית הַגִּבֹּרִֽים׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): achara֛yv hechezi֥yqu haleviyּi֖m rech֣um bּen-bּani֑y 'al-yad֣o hechezi֗yq chashshabeya֛h shsar-chatziy-pe֥leke qe'iyla֖h lepilekּֽo׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to him, the repairs were made by the Levites under Rehum son of Bani. Beside him, Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his district.

אַחֲרָ֛יו הֶחֱזִ֥יקוּ הַלְוִיִּ֖ם רְח֣וּם בֶּן־בָּנִ֑י עַל־יָד֣וֹ הֶחֱזִ֗יק חֲשַׁבְיָ֛ה שַׂר־חֲצִי־פֶ֥לֶךְ קְעִילָ֖ה לְפִלְכּֽוֹ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): acharayv֙ hechezi֣yqu 'acheyhe֔m bּaua֖y bּen-chenada֑d shsa֕r chatzi֖y pּe֥leke qe'iylaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to him, the repairs were made by their countrymen under Binnui son of Henadad, ruler of the other half-district of Keilah.

אַחֲרָיו֙ הֶחֱזִ֣יקוּ אֲחֵיהֶ֔ם בַּוַּ֖י בֶּן־חֵנָדָ֑ד שַׂ֕ר חֲצִ֖י פֶּ֥לֶךְ קְעִילָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayechazּe֨q 'al-yad֜o 'e֧zer bּen-yeshsh֛u'a shsa֥r hamּitzepּa֖h midּa֣h shsheni֑yt minּe֕ged 'alo֥t hanּe֖shsheq hamּiqetzoֽ'a׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, ruler of Mizpah, repaired another section, from a point facing the ascent to the armoury as far as the angle in the wall.

וַיְחַזֵּ֨ק עַל־יָד֜וֹ עֵ֧זֶר בֶּן־יֵשׁ֛וּעַ שַׂ֥ר הַמִּצְפָּ֖ה מִדָּ֣ה שֵׁנִ֑ית מִנֶּ֕גֶד עֲלֹ֥ת הַנֶּ֖שֶׁק הַמִּקְצֹֽעַ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): achara֨yv hechera֧h hechezi֛yq bּar֥uke bּen-zby zakּa֖y midּa֣h shsheni֑yt min-ha֨mּiqetz֔o'a 'ad-pּe֨tach֙ bּe֣yt 'eleyashshi֔yb hakּohe֖n hagּadֽol׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to him, Baruch son of Zabbai zealously repaired another section, from the angle to the entrance of the house of Eliashib the high priest.

אַחֲרָ֨יו הֶחֱרָ֧ה הֶחֱזִ֛יק בָּר֥וּךְ בֶּן־זבי זַכַּ֖י מִדָּ֣ה שֵׁנִ֑ית מִן־הַ֨מִּקְצ֔וֹעַ עַד־פֶּ֨תַח֙ בֵּ֣ית אֶלְיָשִׁ֔יב הַכֹּהֵ֖ן הַגָּדֽוֹל׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): achara֣yv hechezi֗yq merem֧ot bּen-'uriyּa֛h bּen-haqּ֖otz midּa֣h shsheni֑yt mipּe֨tach֙ bּe֣yt 'eleyashshi֔yb ve'ad-tּakeli֖yt bּe֥yt 'eleyashshiֽyb׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to him, Meremoth son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, repaired another section, from the entrance of Eliashib’s house to the end of it.

אַחֲרָ֣יו הֶחֱזִ֗יק מְרֵמ֧וֹת בֶּן־אוּרִיָּ֛ה בֶּן־הַקּ֖וֹץ מִדָּ֣ה שֵׁנִ֑ית מִפֶּ֨תַח֙ בֵּ֣ית אֶלְיָשִׁ֔יב וְעַד־תַּכְלִ֖ית בֵּ֥ית אֶלְיָשִֽׁיב׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'achara֛yv hechezi֥yqu hakּohani֖ym 'aneshshe֥y hakּikּaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The repairs next to him were made by the priests from the surrounding region.

וְאַחֲרָ֛יו הֶחֱזִ֥יקוּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים אַנְשֵׁ֥י הַכִּכָּֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): achara֨yv hechezi֧yq bּineyami֛n vechashshּ֖ub ne֣ged bּeyta֑m s 'achara֣yv hechezi֗yq 'azareya֧h ben-ma'ashseya֛h bּen-'anaֽneya֖h 'e֥tzel bּeytֽo׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Beyond them, Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs opposite their house; and next to them, Azariah son of Maaseiah, the son of Ananiah, made repairs beside his house.

אַחֲרָ֨יו הֶחֱזִ֧יק בִּנְיָמִ֛ן וְחַשּׁ֖וּב נֶ֣גֶד בֵּיתָ֑ם ס אַחֲרָ֣יו הֶחֱזִ֗יק עֲזַרְיָ֧ה בֶן־מַעֲשֵׂיָ֛ה בֶּן־עֲנָֽנְיָ֖ה אֵ֥צֶל בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): achara֣yv hechezi֗yq bּinּ֛uy bּen-chenada֖d midּa֣h shsheni֑yt mibּe֣yt 'azareya֔h 'ad-hamּiqetz֖o'a ve'ad-hapּinּaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to him, Binnui son of Henadad repaired another section, from Azariah’s house to the angle and the corner,

אַחֲרָ֣יו הֶחֱזִ֗יק בִּנּ֛וּי בֶּן־חֵנָדָ֖ד מִדָּ֣ה שֵׁנִ֑ית מִבֵּ֣ית עֲזַרְיָ֔ה עַד־הַמִּקְצ֖וֹעַ וְעַד־הַפִּנָּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): pּala֣l bּen-'uzay֮ minּe֣ged hamּiqetzo'a֒ vehamּigedּa֗l hayּotze'֙ mibּe֤yt hamּe֨leke֙ haֽ'eley֔on 'ashshe֖r lachatza֣r hamּatּara֑h 'achara֖yv pּedaya֥h ben-pּare'oֽshsh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)and Palal son of Uzai worked opposite the angle and the tower projecting from the upper palace near the court of the guard. Next to him, Pedaiah son of Parosh

פָּלָ֣ל בֶּן־אוּזַי֮ מִנֶּ֣גֶד הַמִּקְצוֹעַ֒ וְהַמִּגְדָּ֗ל הַיּוֹצֵא֙ מִבֵּ֤ית הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ הָֽעֶלְי֔וֹן אֲשֶׁ֖ר לַחֲצַ֣ר הַמַּטָּרָ֑ה אַחֲרָ֖יו פְּדָיָ֥ה בֶן־פַּרְעֹֽשׁ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): veha֨nּetiyni֔ym hay֥u yoshshebi֖ym bּa'o֑pel 'a֠d ne֜ged shsha֤'ar hamּa֨yim֙ lamּizera֔ch vehamּigedּa֖l hayּotzeֽ'׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)and the temple servants living on the hill of Ophel made repairs up to a point opposite the Water Gate toward the east and the projecting tower.

וְהַ֨נְּתִינִ֔ים הָי֥וּ יֹשְׁבִ֖ים בָּעֹ֑פֶל עַ֠ד נֶ֜גֶד שַׁ֤עַר הַמַּ֨יִם֙ לַמִּזְרָ֔ח וְהַמִּגְדָּ֖ל הַיּוֹצֵֽא׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): achara֛yv hechezi֥yqu hatּeqo'i֖ym midּa֣h shsheni֑yt minּe֜ged hamּigedּa֤l hagּadol֙ hayּotze֔ ve'a֖d choma֥t ha'oֽpel׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to them, the men of Tekoa repaired another section, from the great projecting tower to the wall of Ophel.

אַחֲרָ֛יו הֶחֱזִ֥יקוּ הַתְּקֹעִ֖ים מִדָּ֣ה שֵׁנִ֑ית מִנֶּ֜גֶד הַמִּגְדָּ֤ל הַגָּדוֹל֙ הַיּוֹצֵ֔א וְעַ֖ד חוֹמַ֥ת הָעֹֽפֶל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): me'a֣l ׀ shsha֣'ar hasּusi֗ym hechezi֨yqu֙ hakּo֣hani֔ym 'i֖yshsh lene֥ged bּeytֽo׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Above the Horse Gate, the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house.

מֵעַ֣ל ׀ שַׁ֣עַר הַסּוּסִ֗ים הֶחֱזִ֨יקוּ֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים אִ֖ישׁ לְנֶ֥גֶד בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): achara֧yv hechezi֛yq tzad֥oq bּen-'imּe֖r ne֣ged bּeyt֑o s ve'achara֤yv hecheziyq֙ shshemaֽ'eya֣h ben-shshekaneya֔h shshome֖r shsha֥'ar hamּizeraֽch׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to them, Zadok son of Immer made repairs opposite his house, and next to him Shemaiah son of Shecaniah, the guard at the East Gate, made repairs.

אַחֲרָ֧יו הֶחֱזִ֛יק צָד֥וֹק בֶּן־אִמֵּ֖ר נֶ֣גֶד בֵּית֑וֹ ס וְאַחֲרָ֤יו הֶחֱזִיק֙ שְׁמַֽעְיָ֣ה בֶן־שְׁכַנְיָ֔ה שֹׁמֵ֖ר שַׁ֥עַר הַמִּזְרָֽח׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): chry 'achara֨yv hechezi֜yq chananeya֣h ben-shshelemeya֗h vechan֧un bּen-tzala֛p hashshּishshּi֖y midּa֣h shsheni֑y s 'achara֣yv hechezi֗yq meshshulּam֙ bּen-bּe֣rekeya֔h ne֖ged nishshekּatֽo׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to him, Hananiah son of Shelemiah, and Hanun, the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section. Next to them, Meshullam son of Berekiah made repairs opposite his living quarters.

אחרי אַחֲרָ֨יו הֶחֱזִ֜יק חֲנַנְיָ֣ה בֶן־שֶׁלֶמְיָ֗ה וְחָנ֧וּן בֶּן־צָלָ֛ף הַשִּׁשִּׁ֖י מִדָּ֣ה שֵׁנִ֑י ס אַחֲרָ֣יו הֶחֱזִ֗יק מְשֻׁלָּם֙ בֶּן־בֶּ֣רֶכְיָ֔ה נֶ֖גֶד נִשְׁכָּתֽוֹ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): chry 'achara֣yv hechezi֗yq malekּiyּah֙ bּen-hatzּo֣repi֔y 'ad-bּe֥yt hanּetiyni֖ym veharokeli֑ym ne֚ged shsha֣'ar hamּipeqa֔d ve'a֖d 'aliyּa֥t hapּinּaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Next to him, Malkijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Inspection Gate, and as far as the room above the corner;

אחרי אַחֲרָ֣יו הֶחֱזִ֗יק מַלְכִּיָּה֙ בֶּן־הַצֹּ֣רְפִ֔י עַד־בֵּ֥ית הַנְּתִינִ֖ים וְהָרֹכְלִ֑ים נֶ֚גֶד שַׁ֣עַר הַמִּפְקָ֔ד וְעַ֖ד עֲלִיַּ֥ת הַפִּנָּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ube֨yn 'aliyּa֤t hapּinּah֙ leshsha֣'ar hatzּo֔'n hechezi֥yqu hatzּorepi֖ym veharokeliֽym׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)and between the room above the corner and the Sheep Gate the goldsmiths and merchants made repairs. The circle of reconstruction was complete.

וּבֵ֨ין עֲלִיַּ֤ת הַפִּנָּה֙ לְשַׁ֣עַר הַצֹּ֔אן הֶחֱזִ֥יקוּ הַצֹּרְפִ֖ים וְהָרֹכְלִֽים׃פ

וַיְהִ֞י כַּאֲשֶׁ֧ר שָׁמַ֣ע סַנְבַלַּ֗ט כִּֽי־אֲנַ֤חְנוּ בוֹנִים֙ אֶת־הַ֣חוֹמָ֔ה וַיִּ֣חַר ל֔וֹ וַיִּכְעַ֖ס הַרְבֵּ֑ה וַיַּלְעֵ֖ג עַל־הַיְּהוּדִֽים׃

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ לִפְנֵ֣י אֶחָ֗יו וְחֵיל֙ שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן וַיֹּ֕אמֶר מָ֛ה הַיְּהוּדִ֥ים הָאֲמֵלָלִ֖ים עֹשִׂ֑ים הֲיַעַזְב֨וּ לָהֶ֤ם הֲיִזְבָּ֨חוּ֙ הַיְכַלּ֣וּ בַיּ֔וֹם הַיְחַיּ֧וּ אֶת־הָאֲבָנִ֛ים מֵעֲרֵמ֥וֹת הֶעָפָ֖ר וְהֵ֥מָּה שְׂרוּפֽוֹת׃

וְטוֹבִיָּ֥ה הָעַמֹּנִ֖י אֶצְל֑וֹ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר גַּ֚ם אֲשֶׁר־הֵ֣ם בּוֹנִ֔ים אִם־יַעֲלֶ֣ה שׁוּעָ֔ל וּפָרַ֖ץ חוֹמַ֥ת אַבְנֵיהֶֽם׃פ

שְׁמַ֤ע אֱלֹהֵ֨ינוּ֙ כִּֽי־הָיִ֣ינוּ בוּזָ֔ה וְהָשֵׁ֥ב חֶרְפָּתָ֖ם אֶל־רֹאשָׁ֑ם וּתְנֵ֥ם לְבִזָּ֖ה בְּאֶ֥רֶץ שִׁבְיָֽה׃

וְאַל־תְּכַס֙ עַל־עֲוֺנָ֔ם וְחַטָּאתָ֖ם מִלְּפָנֶ֣יךָ אַל־תִּמָּחֶ֑ה כִּ֥י הִכְעִ֖יסוּ לְנֶ֥גֶד הַבּוֹנִֽים׃

וַנִּבְנֶה֙ אֶת־הַ֣חוֹמָ֔ה וַתִּקָּשֵׁ֥ר כָּל־הַחוֹמָ֖ה עַד־חֶצְיָ֑הּ וַיְהִ֧י לֵ֦ב לָעָ֖ם לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃פ
