Chapter 11
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֤y ha'am֙ kּemite'o֣neni֔ym ra֖ bּe'azene֣y yehva֑h vayּishshema֤ yehvah֙ vayּi֣char 'apּ֔o vatּibe'ar-bּam֙ 'e֣shsh yehva֔h vatּo֖'kal bּiqetze֥h haֽmּachaneֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the LORD, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the LORD burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.

וַיְהִ֤י הָעָם֙ כְּמִתְאֹ֣נְנִ֔ים רַ֖ע בְּאָזְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע יְהוָה֙ וַיִּ֣חַר אַפּ֔וֹ וַתִּבְעַר־בָּם֙ אֵ֣שׁ יְהוָ֔ה וַתֹּ֖אכַל בִּקְצֵ֥ה הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitze'a֥q ha'a֖m 'el-moshshe֑h vayּitepּalּe֤l moshsheh֙ 'el-yehva֔h vatּishsheqa֖ ha'eֽshsh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the LORD and the fire died down.

וַיִּצְעַ֥ק הָעָ֖ם אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֤ל מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה וַתִּשְׁקַ֖ע הָאֵֽשׁ׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqera֛ shsheֽm-hamּaq֥om hah֖u tּabe'era֑h kּiֽy-ba'ara֥h ba֖m 'e֥shsh yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So that place was named Taberah, [1] because fire from the LORD had burned among them.

וַיִּקְרָ֛א שֵֽׁם־הַמָּק֥וֹם הַה֖וּא תַּבְעֵרָ֑ה כִּֽי־בָעֲרָ֥ה בָ֖ם אֵ֥שׁ יְהוָֽה׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaֽ'sapesup֙ 'ashshe֣r bּeqirebּ֔o hite'au֖u tּa'ava֑h vayּashshu֣bu vayּibekּ֗u gּa֚m bּene֣y yishsera'e֔l vayּo֣'mer֔u mi֥y ya'akile֖nu bּashsaֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The rabble among them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, "If only we had meat to eat!

וְהָֽאסַפְסֻף֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּקִרְבּ֔וֹ הִתְאַוּ֖וּ תַּאֲוָ֑ה וַיָּשֻׁ֣בוּ וַיִּבְכּ֗וּ גַּ֚ם בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מִ֥י יַאֲכִלֵ֖נוּ בָּשָֽׂר׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): zaka֨renu֙ 'et-hadּaga֔h 'ashsher-no'ka֥l bּemitzera֖yim chinּa֑m 'e֣t haqּishshּu'i֗ym ve'et֙ haֽ'abatּichi֔ym ve'et-hechatzi֥yr ve'et-habּetzali֖ym ve'et-hashshּumiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost, plus the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic.

זָכַ֨רְנוּ֙ אֶת־הַדָּגָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־נֹאכַ֥ל בְּמִצְרַ֖יִם חִנָּ֑ם אֵ֣ת הַקִּשֻּׁאִ֗ים וְאֵת֙ הָֽאֲבַטִּחִ֔ים וְאֶת־הֶחָצִ֥יר וְאֶת־הַבְּצָלִ֖ים וְאֶת־הַשּׁוּמִֽים׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֛h napeshshe֥nu yebeshsha֖h 'e֣yn kּo֑l bּiletּi֖y 'el-hamּa֥n 'eyneֽynu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!"

וְעַתָּ֛ה נַפְשֵׁ֥נוּ יְבֵשָׁ֖ה אֵ֣ין כֹּ֑ל בִּלְתִּ֖י אֶל־הַמָּ֥ן עֵינֵֽינוּ׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehamּa֕n kּizera'-gּa֖d h֑u ve'eyn֖o kּe'e֥yn habּedoֽlach׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The manna was like coriander seed and looked like resin.

וְהַמָּ֕ן כִּזְרַע־גַּ֖ד ה֑וּא וְעֵינ֖וֹ כְּעֵ֥ין הַבְּדֹֽלַח׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): shshatu֩ ha'a֨m velaֽqet֜u vetachan֣u barecha֗yim '֤o daku֙ bּamּedoka֔h ubishshּelu֙ bּapּar֔ur ve'ashs֥u 'ot֖o 'ug֑ot vehaya֣h ta'em֔o kּeta֖'am leshsha֥d hashshּaֽmen׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The people went around gathering it, then ground it in a hand mill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into cakes. It tasted like something made with olive oil.

שָׁטוּ֩ הָעָ֨ם וְלָֽקְט֜וּ וְטָחֲנ֣וּ בָרֵחַ֗יִם א֤וֹ דָכוּ֙ בַּמְּדֹכָ֔ה וּבִשְּׁלוּ֙ בַּפָּר֔וּר וְעָשׂ֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ עֻג֑וֹת וְהָיָ֣ה טַעְמ֔וֹ כְּטַ֖עַם לְשַׁ֥ד הַשָּֽׁמֶן׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubere֧det hatּa֛l 'al-haֽmּachane֖h la֑yelah yere֥d hamּa֖n 'alaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When the dew settled on the camp at night, the manna also came down.

וּבְרֶ֧דֶת הַטַּ֛ל עַל־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה לָ֑יְלָה יֵרֵ֥ד הַמָּ֖ן עָלָֽיו׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshema֨ moshshe֜h 'et-ha'a֗m bּokeh֙ lemishshepּechota֔yv 'i֖yshsh lepe֣tach 'ahol֑o vayּiֽchar-'a֤p yehvah֙ me'o֔d ube'eyne֥y moshshe֖h raֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Moses heard the people of every family wailing at the entrance to their tents. the LORD became exceedingly angry, and Moses was deeply troubled.

וַיִּשְׁמַ֨ע מֹשֶׁ֜ה אֶת־הָעָ֗ם בֹּכֶה֙ לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֔יו אִ֖ישׁ לְפֶ֣תַח אָהֳל֑וֹ וַיִּֽחַר־אַ֤ף יְהוָה֙ מְאֹ֔ד וּבְעֵינֵ֥י מֹשֶׁ֖ה רָֽע׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer moshshe֜h 'el-yehva֗h lama֤h hare'o֨ta֙ le'abedּe֔ka vela֛mּah lo'-matza֥tiy che֖n bּe'eyne֑yka lashs֗um 'et-mashsּa֛ kּal-ha'a֥m hazּe֖h 'alaֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He asked the LORD, "Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֜ה אֶל־יְהוָ֗ה לָמָ֤ה הֲרֵעֹ֨תָ֙ לְעַבְדֶּ֔ךָ וְלָ֛מָּה לֹא־מָצָ֥תִי חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ לָשׂ֗וּם אֶת־מַשָּׂ֛א כָּל־הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה עָלָֽי׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): he'anoki֣y hari֗ytiy 'e֚t kּal-ha'a֣m hazּe֔h 'im-'anoki֖y yelidetּi֑yhu kּiֽy-to'ma֨r 'ela֜y shsa'e֣hu becheyqe֗ka kּa'ashshe֨r yishsּa֤ ha'omen֙ 'et-hayּone֔q 'a֚l haֽ'adama֔h 'ashshe֥r nishshebּa֖'etּa la'abotaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries a baby, to the land you promised on oath to their ancestors?

הֶאָנֹכִ֣י הָרִ֗יתִי אֵ֚ת כָּל־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה אִם־אָנֹכִ֖י יְלִדְתִּ֑יהוּ כִּֽי־תֹאמַ֨ר אֵלַ֜י שָׂאֵ֣הוּ בְחֵיקֶ֗ךָ כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר יִשָּׂ֤א הָאֹמֵן֙ אֶת־הַיֹּנֵ֔ק עַ֚ל הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֖עְתָּ לַאֲבֹתָֽיו׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): me'a֤yin liy֙ bּashsa֔r late֖t lekal-ha'a֣m hazּe֑h kּiֽy-yibekּ֤u 'alay֙ le'mo֔r tּenah-lּa֥nu bashsa֖r veno'keֽlah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, 'Give us meat to eat!'

מֵאַ֤יִן לִי֙ בָּשָׂ֔ר לָתֵ֖ת לְכָל־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֑ה כִּֽי־יִבְכּ֤וּ עָלַי֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר תְּנָה־לָּ֥נוּ בָשָׂ֖ר וְנֹאכֵֽלָה׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): loֽ'-'uka֤l 'anokiy֙ lebadּi֔y lashse֖'t 'et-kּal-ha'a֣m hazּe֑h kּi֥y kabe֖d mimּeֽnּiy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.

לֹֽא־אוּכַ֤ל אָנֹכִי֙ לְבַדִּ֔י לָשֵׂ֖את אֶת־כָּל־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֑ה כִּ֥י כָבֵ֖ד מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'im-kּa֣kah ׀ 'atּe-'o֣shseh lּi֗y harege֤niy na'֙ haro֔g 'im-matza֥'tiy che֖n bּe'eyne֑yka ve'al-'ere'e֖h bּera'atiֽy׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me now, if I have found favour in your eyes, and do not let me face my own ruin."

וְאִם־כָּ֣כָה ׀ אַתְּ־עֹ֣שֶׂה לִּ֗י הָרְגֵ֤נִי נָא֙ הָרֹ֔ג אִם־מָצָ֥אתִי חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ וְאַל־אֶרְאֶ֖ה בְּרָעָתִֽי׃פ

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer yehva֜h 'el-moshshe֗h 'esepah-lּi֞y shshibe'i֣ym 'iyshsh֮ mizּiqene֣y yishsera'el֒ 'ashshe֣r yada֔'etּa kּiy-he֛m ziqene֥y ha'a֖m veshshotera֑yv velaqachetּa֤ 'otam֙ 'el-'o֣hel mo'e֔d vehiֽteyatzּeb֥u shsha֖m 'imּaֽke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD said to Moses: "Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה אֶסְפָה־לִּ֞י שִׁבְעִ֣ים אִישׁ֮ מִזִּקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָדַ֔עְתָּ כִּי־הֵ֛ם זִקְנֵ֥י הָעָ֖ם וְשֹׁטְרָ֑יו וְלָקַחְתָּ֤ אֹתָם֙ אֶל־אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד וְהִֽתְיַצְּב֥וּ שָׁ֖ם עִמָּֽךְ׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): veyaradetּi֗y vedibּaretּi֣y 'imּeka֮ shsham֒ ve'atzaletּi֗y min-har֛ucha 'ashshe֥r 'ale֖yka veshsametּi֣y 'aleyhe֑m venashse'֤u 'itּeka֙ bּemashsּa֣ ha'a֔m velo'-tishsּa֥ 'atּa֖h lebadּeֽka׃
Edified Edition (EDE)I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.

וְיָרַדְתִּ֗י וְדִבַּרְתִּ֣י עִמְּךָ֮ שָׁם֒ וְאָצַלְתִּ֗י מִן־הָר֛וּחַ אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָלֶ֖יךָ וְשַׂמְתִּ֣י עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וְנָשְׂא֤וּ אִתְּךָ֙ בְּמַשָּׂ֣א הָעָ֔ם וְלֹא־תִשָּׂ֥א אַתָּ֖ה לְבַדֶּֽךָ׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'el-ha'a֨m tּo'ma֜r hiteqadּeshsh֣u lemachar֮ va'akaletּe֣m bּashsar֒ kּi֡y bּekiytem֩ bּe'azene֨y yehva֜h le'mo֗r mi֤y ya'akile֨nu֙ bּashsa֔r kּiy-t֥ob la֖nu bּemitzera֑yim venata֨n yehva֥h lake֛m bּashsa֖r va'akaletּeֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Tell the people: 'Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, when you will eat meat. the LORD heard you when you wailed, "If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!" Now the LORD will give you meat, and you will eat it.

וְאֶל־הָעָ֨ם תֹּאמַ֜ר הִתְקַדְּשׁ֣וּ לְמָחָר֮ וַאֲכַלְתֶּ֣ם בָּשָׂר֒ כִּ֡י בְּכִיתֶם֩ בְּאָזְנֵ֨י יְהוָ֜ה לֵאמֹ֗ר מִ֤י יַאֲכִלֵ֨נוּ֙ בָּשָׂ֔ר כִּי־ט֥וֹב לָ֖נוּ בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם וְנָתַ֨ן יְהוָ֥ה לָכֶ֛ם בָּשָׂ֖ר וַאֲכַלְתֶּֽם׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): lo֣ y֥om 'echa֛d tּo'kel֖un velo֣ yoma֑yim velo֣ ׀ chamishshּa֣h yami֗ym velo'֙ 'ashsara֣h yami֔ym velo֖ 'eshseri֥ym yֽom׃
Edified Edition (EDE)You will not eat it for just one day, or two days, or five, ten or twenty days,

לֹ֣א י֥וֹם אֶחָ֛ד תֹּאכְל֖וּן וְלֹ֣א יוֹמָ֑יִם וְלֹ֣א ׀ חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה יָמִ֗ים וְלֹא֙ עֲשָׂרָ֣ה יָמִ֔ים וְלֹ֖א עֶשְׂרִ֥ים יֽוֹם׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): a֣d ׀ cho֣deshsh yami֗ym 'a֤d 'ashsher-yetze'֙ meֽ'apּeke֔m vehaya֥h lake֖m lezara֑ ya֗'an kּiֽy-me'asetּe֤m 'et-yehvah֙ 'ashshe֣r bּeqirebּeke֔m vatּibekּ֤u lepanayv֙ le'mo֔r la֥mּah zּe֖h yatza֥'nu mimּitzeraֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)but for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it, because you have rejected the LORD, who is among you, and have wailed before him, saying, "Why did we ever leave Egypt?" ' "

עַ֣ד ׀ חֹ֣דֶשׁ יָמִ֗ים עַ֤ד אֲשֶׁר־יֵצֵא֙ מֵֽאַפְּכֶ֔ם וְהָיָ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם לְזָרָ֑א יַ֗עַן כִּֽי־מְאַסְתֶּ֤ם אֶת־יְהוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּקִרְבְּכֶ֔ם וַתִּבְכּ֤וּ לְפָנָיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לָ֥מָּה זֶּ֖ה יָצָ֥אנוּ מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'mer֮ moshsheh֒ shsheshsh-me'֥ot 'e֨lep֙ rageli֔y ha'a֕m 'ashshe֥r 'anoki֖y bּeqirebּ֑o ve'atּa֣h 'ama֗retּa bּashsar֙ 'etּe֣n lahe֔m ve'akel֖u cho֥deshsh yamiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But Moses said, "Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say, 'I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!'

וַיֹּאמֶר֮ מֹשֶׁה֒ שֵׁשׁ־מֵא֥וֹת אֶ֨לֶף֙ רַגְלִ֔י הָעָ֕ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָנֹכִ֖י בְּקִרְבּ֑וֹ וְאַתָּ֣ה אָמַ֗רְתָּ בָּשָׂר֙ אֶתֵּ֣ן לָהֶ֔ם וְאָכְל֖וּ חֹ֥דֶשׁ יָמִֽים׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): hatzo֧'n ubaqa֛r yishshּache֥t lahe֖m umatza֣ lahe֑m 'i֣m 'eֽt-kּal-dּege֥y hayּa֛m ye'ase֥p lahe֖m umatza֥ laheֽm׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?"

הֲצֹ֧אן וּבָקָ֛ר יִשָּׁחֵ֥ט לָהֶ֖ם וּמָצָ֣א לָהֶ֑ם אִ֣ם אֶֽת־כָּל־דְּגֵ֥י הַיָּ֛ם יֵאָסֵ֥ף לָהֶ֖ם וּמָצָ֥א לָהֶֽם׃פ

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ 'el-moshshe֔h haya֥d yehva֖h tּiqetza֑r 'atּa֥h tire'e֛h hayiqereka֥ debari֖y 'im-loֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD answered Moses, "Is the LORD’s arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה הֲיַ֥ד יְהוָ֖ה תִּקְצָ֑ר עַתָּ֥ה תִרְאֶ֛ה הֲיִקְרְךָ֥ דְבָרִ֖י אִם־לֹֽא׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּetze֣ moshshe֗h vayedabּer֙ 'el-ha'a֔m 'e֖t dּibere֣y yehva֑h vayּe'eso֞p shshibe'i֥ym 'iyshsh֙ mizּiqene֣y ha'a֔m vaֽyּa'ame֥d 'ota֖m sebiybo֥t ha'oֽhel׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the Tent.

וַיֵּצֵ֣א מֹשֶׁ֗ה וַיְדַבֵּר֙ אֶל־הָעָ֔ם אֵ֖ת דִּבְרֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיֶּאֱסֹ֞ף שִׁבְעִ֥ים אִישׁ֙ מִזִּקְנֵ֣י הָעָ֔ם וַֽיַּעֲמֵ֥ד אֹתָ֖ם סְבִיבֹ֥ת הָאֹֽהֶל׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֨red yehva֥h ׀ bּe'anan֮ vayedabּe֣r 'elayv֒ vayּa֗'tzel min-har֨ucha֙ 'ashshe֣r 'ala֔yv vayּitּe֕n 'al-shshibe'i֥ym 'i֖yshsh hazּeqeni֑ym vayehi֗y kּen֤ocha 'aleyhem֙ har֔ucha vayּiֽtenabּe'֖u velo֥ yasaֽpu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took some of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but did not do so again.

וַיֵּ֨רֶד יְהוָ֥ה ׀ בֶּעָנָן֮ וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֵלָיו֒ וַיָּ֗אצֶל מִן־הָר֨וּחַ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָלָ֔יו וַיִּתֵּ֕ן עַל־שִׁבְעִ֥ים אִ֖ישׁ הַזְּקֵנִ֑ים וַיְהִ֗י כְּנ֤וֹחַ עֲלֵיהֶם֙ הָר֔וּחַ וַיִּֽתְנַבְּא֖וּ וְלֹ֥א יָסָֽפוּ׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshּa'ar֣u shsheneֽy-'anashshi֣ym ׀ bּaֽmּachane֡h shshe֣m ha'echa֣d ׀ 'eledּa֡d veshshem֩ hashshּeni֨y meyda֜d vatּa֧nach 'aleyhe֣m har֗ucha vehe֨mּah֙ bּakּetubi֔ym velo֥ yatze'֖u ha'o֑helah vayּiֽtenabּe'֖u bּֽamּachaneֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the Tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp.

וַיִּשָּׁאֲר֣וּ שְׁנֵֽי־אֲנָשִׁ֣ים ׀ בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֡ה שֵׁ֣ם הָאֶחָ֣ד ׀ אֶלְדָּ֡ד וְשֵׁם֩ הַשֵּׁנִ֨י מֵידָ֜ד וַתָּ֧נַח עֲלֵיהֶ֣ם הָר֗וּחַ וְהֵ֨מָּה֙ בַּכְּתֻבִ֔ים וְלֹ֥א יָצְא֖וּ הָאֹ֑הֱלָה וַיִּֽתְנַבְּא֖וּ בַּֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣ratz hanּa֔'ar vayּagּe֥d lemoshshe֖h vayּo'ma֑r 'eledּa֣d umeyda֔d miֽtenabּe'i֖ym bּaֽmּachaneֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)A young man ran and told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp."

וַיָּ֣רָץ הַנַּ֔עַר וַיַּגֵּ֥ד לְמֹשֶׁ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אֶלְדָּ֣ד וּמֵידָ֔ד מִֽתְנַבְּאִ֖ים בַּֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֜'an yehoshshu֣'a bּin-n֗un meshshare֥t moshshe֛h mibּechura֖yv vayּo'ma֑r 'adoni֥y moshshe֖h kּela'eֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ aide since youth, spoke up and said, "Moses, my lord, stop them!"

וַיַּ֜עַן יְהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ בִּן־נ֗וּן מְשָׁרֵ֥ת מֹשֶׁ֛ה מִבְּחֻרָ֖יו וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אֲדֹנִ֥י מֹשֶׁ֖ה כְּלָאֵֽם׃

29
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer lo֙ moshshe֔h haֽmeqanּe֥ 'atּa֖h li֑y umi֨y yitּe֜n kּal-'a֤m yehvah֙ nebiy'i֔ym kּiy-yitּe֧n yehva֛h 'et-ruch֖o 'aleyheֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But Moses replied, "Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!"

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ מֹשֶׁ֔ה הַֽמְקַנֵּ֥א אַתָּ֖ה לִ֑י וּמִ֨י יִתֵּ֜ן כָּל־עַ֤ם יְהוָה֙ נְבִיאִ֔ים כִּי־יִתֵּ֧ן יְהוָ֛ה אֶת־רוּח֖וֹ עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe'ase֥p moshshe֖h 'el-haֽmּachane֑h h֖u veziqene֥y yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.

וַיֵּאָסֵ֥ף מֹשֶׁ֖ה אֶל־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה ה֖וּא וְזִקְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

31
Phonetic (Hebrew): ver֜ucha nasa֣ ׀ me'e֣t yehva֗h vayּa֣gaz shsaleviym֮ min-hayּam֒ vayּitּo֨shsh 'al-haֽmּachane֜h kּede֧reke y֣om kּo֗h ukede֤reke yom֙ kּo֔h sebiyb֖ot haֽmּachane֑h uke'amּata֖yim 'al-pּene֥y ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now a wind went out from the LORD and drove quail in from the sea. It scattered them up to two cubits deep all around the camp, as far as a day’s walk in any direction.

וְר֜וּחַ נָסַ֣ע ׀ מֵאֵ֣ת יְהוָ֗ה וַיָּ֣גָז שַׂלְוִים֮ מִן־הַיָּם֒ וַיִּטֹּ֨שׁ עַל־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֜ה כְּדֶ֧רֶךְ י֣וֹם כֹּ֗ה וּכְדֶ֤רֶךְ יוֹם֙ כֹּ֔ה סְבִיב֖וֹת הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה וּכְאַמָּתַ֖יִם עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הָאָֽרֶץ׃

32
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣qam ha'a֡m kּal-hayּom֩ hah֨u vekal-halּa֜yelah veko֣l ׀ y֣om haֽmּachora֗t vayּaֽ'asepu֙ 'et-hashsּela֔v hamּame'i֕yt 'asa֖p 'ashsara֣h chomari֑ym vayּishshetech֤u lahem֙ shshat֔ocha sebiyb֖ot haֽmּachaneֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers. Then they spread them out all around the camp.

וַיָּ֣קָם הָעָ֡ם כָּל־הַיּוֹם֩ הַה֨וּא וְכָל־הַלַּ֜יְלָה וְכֹ֣ל ׀ י֣וֹם הַֽמָּחֳרָ֗ת וַיַּֽאַסְפוּ֙ אֶת־הַשְּׂלָ֔ו הַמַּמְעִ֕יט אָסַ֖ף עֲשָׂרָ֣ה חֳמָרִ֑ים וַיִּשְׁטְח֤וּ לָהֶם֙ שָׁט֔וֹחַ סְבִיב֖וֹת הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

33
Phonetic (Hebrew): habּashsa֗r 'ode֨nּu֙ bּe֣yn shshinּeyhe֔m te֖rem yikּare֑t ve'a֤p yehvah֙ chara֣h ba'a֔m vayּa֤ke yehvah֙ bּa'a֔m makּa֖h rabּa֥h me'oֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague.

הַבָּשָׂ֗ר עוֹדֶ֨נּוּ֙ בֵּ֣ין שִׁנֵּיהֶ֔ם טֶ֖רֶם יִכָּרֵ֑ת וְאַ֤ף יְהוָה֙ חָרָ֣ה בָעָ֔ם וַיַּ֤ךְ יְהוָה֙ בָּעָ֔ם מַכָּ֖ה רַבָּ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃

34
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqera֛ 'et-shsheֽm-hamּaq֥om hah֖u qiber֣ot haֽtּa'ava֑h kּiy-shsham֙ qaֽber֔u 'et-ha'a֖m hamּite'auiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved other food.

וַיִּקְרָ֛א אֶת־שֵֽׁם־הַמָּק֥וֹם הַה֖וּא קִבְר֣וֹת הַֽתַּאֲוָ֑ה כִּי־שָׁם֙ קָֽבְר֔וּ אֶת־הָעָ֖ם הַמִּתְאַוִּֽים׃

35
Phonetic (Hebrew): miqּiber֧ot haֽtּa'ava֛h nase'֥u ha'a֖m chatzer֑ot vayּihey֖u bּachatzerֽot׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)From Kibroth Hattaavah the people travelled to Hazeroth and stayed there.

מִקִּבְר֧וֹת הַֽתַּאֲוָ֛ה נָסְע֥וּ הָעָ֖ם חֲצֵר֑וֹת וַיִּהְי֖וּ בַּחֲצֵרֽוֹת׃פ
