Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer bּile'am֙ 'el-bּala֔q bּeneh-li֥y baze֖h shshibe'a֣h mizebּecho֑t vehake֥n liy֙ bּaze֔h shshibe'a֥h pari֖ym veshshibe'a֥h 'eyliֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Balaam said, "Build seven altars here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר בִּלְעָם֙ אֶל־בָּלָ֔ק בְּנֵה־לִ֥י בָזֶ֖ה שִׁבְעָ֣ה מִזְבְּחֹ֑ת וְהָכֵ֥ן לִי֙ בָּזֶ֔ה שִׁבְעָ֥ה פָרִ֖ים וְשִׁבְעָ֥ה אֵילִֽים׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣'ashs bּala֔q kּa'ashshe֖r dּibּe֣r bּile'a֑m vayּa֨'al bּala֧q ubile'a֛m pּa֥r va'a֖yil bּamּizebּeֽcha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Balak did as Balaam said, and the two of them offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ בָּלָ֔ק כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֣ר בִּלְעָ֑ם וַיַּ֨עַל בָּלָ֧ק וּבִלְעָ֛ם פָּ֥ר וָאַ֖יִל בַּמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer bּile'a֜m lebala֗q hiteyatzּeb֮ 'al-'olateka֒ ve'eֽleka֗h 'ula֞y yiqּare֤h yehvah֙ liqera'ti֔y udeba֥r mah-yּare'e֖niy vehigּa֣detּiy la֑ke vayּe֖leke shsheֽpiy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Balaam said to Balak, "Stay here beside your offering while I go aside. Perhaps the LORD will come to meet with me. Whatever he reveals to me I will tell you." Then he went off to a barren height.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר בִּלְעָ֜ם לְבָלָ֗ק הִתְיַצֵּב֮ עַל־עֹלָתֶךָ֒ וְאֵֽלְכָ֗ה אוּלַ֞י יִקָּרֵ֤ה יְהוָה֙ לִקְרָאתִ֔י וּדְבַ֥ר מַה־יַּרְאֵ֖נִי וְהִגַּ֣דְתִּי לָ֑ךְ וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ שֶֽׁפִי׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqּa֥r 'elohi֖ym 'el-bּile'a֑m vayּo֣'mer 'ela֗yv 'et-shshibe'a֤t haֽmּizebּechot֙ 'ara֔ketּiy va'a֛'al pּa֥r va'a֖yil bּamּizebּeֽcha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)God met with him, and Balaam said, "I have prepared seven altars, and on each altar I have offered a bull and a ram."

וַיִּקָּ֥ר אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶל־בִּלְעָ֑ם וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֗יו אֶת־שִׁבְעַ֤ת הַֽמִּזְבְּחֹת֙ עָרַ֔כְתִּי וָאַ֛עַל פָּ֥ר וָאַ֖יִל בַּמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֧shsem yehva֛h dּaba֖r bּepi֣y bile'a֑m vayּo֛'mer shsh֥ub 'el-bּala֖q veko֥h tedabּeֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD put a word in Balaam’s mouth and said, "Go back to Balak and give him this utterance."

וַיָּ֧שֶׂם יְהוָ֛ה דָּבָ֖ר בְּפִ֣י בִלְעָ֑ם וַיֹּ֛אמֶר שׁ֥וּב אֶל־בָּלָ֖ק וְכֹ֥ה תְדַבֵּֽר׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣shshab 'ela֔yv vehinּe֥h nitzּa֖b 'al-'olat֑o h֖u vekal-shsare֥y mo'aֽb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So he went back and found him standing beside his offering, with all the officials of Moab.

וַיָּ֣שָׁב אֵלָ֔יו וְהִנֵּ֥ה נִצָּ֖ב עַל־עֹלָת֑וֹ ה֖וּא וְכָל־שָׂרֵ֥י מוֹאָֽב׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsּa֥ meshshal֖o vayּo'ma֑r min-'a֠ram yaneche֨niy bala֤q meֽleke-mo'ab֙ meֽharerey-qe֔dem lekah֙ 'aֽrah-lּi֣y ya'aqo֔b uleka֖h zo'ama֥h yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Balaam spoke his message: "Balak brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains. 'Come,' he said, 'curse Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel!'

וַיִּשָּׂ֥א מְשָׁל֖וֹ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר מִן־אֲ֠רָם יַנְחֵ֨נִי בָלָ֤ק מֶֽלֶךְ־מוֹאָב֙ מֵֽהַרְרֵי־קֶ֔דֶם לְכָה֙ אָֽרָה־לִּ֣י יַעֲקֹ֔ב וּלְכָ֖ה זֹעֲמָ֥ה יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): ma֣h 'eqּo֔b lo֥ qabּo֖h 'e֑l uma֣h 'eze'o֔m lo֥ za'a֖m yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce those whom the LORD has not denounced?

מָ֣ה אֶקֹּ֔ב לֹ֥א קַבֹּ֖ה אֵ֑ל וּמָ֣ה אֶזְעֹ֔ם לֹ֥א זָעַ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy-mero֤'shsh tzuriym֙ 'ere'e֔nּu umigּeba'֖ot 'ashshure֑nּu hen-'am֙ lebada֣d yishshekּo֔n ubagּoyi֖m lo֥ yitechashshּaֽb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)From the rocky peaks I see them, from the heights I view them. I see a people who live apart and do not consider themselves one of the nations.

כִּֽי־מֵרֹ֤אשׁ צֻרִים֙ אֶרְאֶ֔נּוּ וּמִגְּבָע֖וֹת אֲשׁוּרֶ֑נּוּ הֶן־עָם֙ לְבָדָ֣ד יִשְׁכֹּ֔ן וּבַגּוֹיִ֖ם לֹ֥א יִתְחַשָּֽׁב׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): mi֤y manah֙ 'apa֣r ya'aqo֔b umisepּa֖r 'et-ro֣ba yishsera'e֑l tּamo֤t napeshshiy֙ m֣ot yeshshari֔ym utehi֥y 'achariyti֖y kּamoֽhu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Who can count the dust of Jacob or number even a fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and may my final end be like theirs!"

מִ֤י מָנָה֙ עֲפַ֣ר יַעֲקֹ֔ב וּמִסְפָּ֖ר אֶת־רֹ֣בַע יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל תָּמֹ֤ת נַפְשִׁי֙ מ֣וֹת יְשָׁרִ֔ים וּתְהִ֥י אַחֲרִיתִ֖י כָּמֹֽהוּ׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer bּalaq֙ 'el-bּile'a֔m me֥h 'ashsi֖yta li֑y laqo֤b 'oyebay֙ leqachetּi֔yka vehinּe֖h bּera֥ketּa bareֽke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but you have done nothing but bless them!"

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר בָּלָק֙ אֶל־בִּלְעָ֔ם מֶ֥ה עָשִׂ֖יתָ לִ֑י לָקֹ֤ב אֹיְבַי֙ לְקַחְתִּ֔יךָ וְהִנֵּ֖ה בֵּרַ֥כְתָּ בָרֵֽךְ׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֖'an vayּo'ma֑r halo֗ 'et֩ 'ashshe֨r yashsi֤ym yehvah֙ bּepi֔y 'ot֥o 'eshshemo֖r ledabּeֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He answered, "Must I not speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?"

וַיַּ֖עַן וַיֹּאמַ֑ר הֲלֹ֗א אֵת֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָשִׂ֤ים יְהוָה֙ בְּפִ֔י אֹת֥וֹ אֶשְׁמֹ֖ר לְדַבֵּֽר׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer 'ela֜yv bּala֗q lk lekah-nּa֨ 'itּi֜y 'el-maq֤om 'acher֙ 'ashshe֣r tּire'e֣nּu mishshּa֔m 'e֚pes qatze֣hu tire'e֔h vekulּ֖o lo֣ tire'e֑h veqabeno-li֖y mishshּaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Balak said to him, "Come with me to another place where you can see them; you will not see them all but only the outskirts of their camp. And from there, curse them for me."

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֜יו בָּלָ֗ק לך לְכָה־נָּ֨א אִתִּ֜י אֶל־מָק֤וֹם אַחֵר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּרְאֶ֣נּוּ מִשָּׁ֔ם אֶ֚פֶס קָצֵ֣הוּ תִרְאֶ֔ה וְכֻלּ֖וֹ לֹ֣א תִרְאֶ֑ה וְקָבְנוֹ־לִ֖י מִשָּֽׁם׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqּache֨hu֙ shsede֣h tzopi֔ym 'el-ro֖'shsh hapּisegּa֑h vayּi֨ben֙ shshibe'a֣h mizebּecho֔t vayּa֛'al pּa֥r va'a֖yil bּamּizebּeֽcha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So he took him to the field of Zophim on the top of Pisgah, and there he built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

וַיִּקָּחֵ֨הוּ֙ שְׂדֵ֣ה צֹפִ֔ים אֶל־רֹ֖אשׁ הַפִּסְגָּ֑ה וַיִּ֨בֶן֙ שִׁבְעָ֣ה מִזְבְּחֹ֔ת וַיַּ֛עַל פָּ֥ר וָאַ֖יִל בַּמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer֙ 'el-bּala֔q hiteyatzּe֥b kּo֖h 'al-'olate֑ka ve'anoki֖y 'iqּa֥reh kּoֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Balaam said to Balak, "Stay here beside your offering while I meet with him over there."

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אֶל־בָּלָ֔ק הִתְיַצֵּ֥ב כֹּ֖ה עַל־עֹלָתֶ֑ךָ וְאָנֹכִ֖י אִקָּ֥רֶה כֹּֽה׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqּa֤r yehvah֙ 'el-bּile'a֔m vayּa֥shsem dּaba֖r bּepi֑yv vayּo֛'mer shsh֥ub 'el-bּala֖q veko֥h tedabּeֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD met with Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said, "Go back to Balak and give him this utterance."

וַיִּקָּ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־בִּלְעָ֔ם וַיָּ֥שֶׂם דָּבָ֖ר בְּפִ֑יו וַיֹּ֛אמֶר שׁ֥וּב אֶל־בָּלָ֖ק וְכֹ֥ה תְדַבֵּֽר׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֣ 'ela֗yv vehinּ֤o nitzּab֙ 'al-'o֣lat֔o veshsare֥y mo'a֖b 'itּ֑o vayּo֤'mer lo֙ bּala֔q mah-dּibּe֖r yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So he went back and found him standing beside his offering with the officials of Moab. Balak asked him, "What did the LORD say?"

וַיָּבֹ֣א אֵלָ֗יו וְהִנּ֤וֹ נִצָּב֙ עַל־עֹ֣לָת֔וֹ וְשָׂרֵ֥י מוֹאָ֖ב אִתּ֑וֹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ בָּלָ֔ק מַה־דִּבֶּ֖ר יְהוָֽה׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsּa֥ meshshal֖o vayּo'ma֑r q֤um bּalaq֙ uֽshshama֔ ha'azi֥ynah 'ada֖y bּen֥o tzipּoֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he spoke his message: "Arise, Balak, and listen; hear me, son of Zippor.

וַיִּשָּׂ֥א מְשָׁל֖וֹ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר ק֤וּם בָּלָק֙ וּֽשֲׁמָ֔ע הַאֲזִ֥ינָה עָדַ֖י בְּנ֥וֹ צִפֹּֽר׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): lo֣ 'i֥yshsh 'el֙ viֽykazּe֔b uben-'ada֖m veyitenecha֑m hah֤u 'amar֙ velo֣ ya'ashse֔h vedibּe֖r velo֥ yeqiymeֽnּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfil?

לֹ֣א אִ֥ישׁ אֵל֙ וִֽיכַזֵּ֔ב וּבֶן־אָדָ֖ם וְיִתְנֶחָ֑ם הַה֤וּא אָמַר֙ וְלֹ֣א יַעֲשֶׂ֔ה וְדִבֶּ֖ר וְלֹ֥א יְקִימֶֽנָּה׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּe֥h bare֖ke laqa֑chetּiy ubere֖ke velo֥ 'ashshiybeֽnּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)I have received a command to bless; he has blessed, and I cannot change it.

הִנֵּ֥ה בָרֵ֖ךְ לָקָ֑חְתִּי וּבֵרֵ֖ךְ וְלֹ֥א אֲשִׁיבֶֽנָּה׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): loֽ'-hibּi֥yt 'a֨ven֙ bּeya'aqo֔b velo'-ra'a֥h 'ama֖l bּeyishsera'e֑l yehva֤h 'elohayv֙ 'imּ֔o uteru'a֥t me֖leke bּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)No misfortune is in sight for Jacob, no misery in store for Israel. the LORD their God is with them; the shout of the King is among them.

לֹֽא־הִבִּ֥יט אָ֨וֶן֙ בְּיַעֲקֹ֔ב וְלֹא־רָאָ֥ה עָמָ֖ל בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהָיו֙ עִמּ֔וֹ וּתְרוּעַ֥ת מֶ֖לֶךְ בּֽוֹ׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): e֖l motziy'a֣m mimּitzera֑yim kּeto'apo֥t re'e֖m lֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox.

אֵ֖ל מוֹצִיאָ֣ם מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם כְּתוֹעֲפֹ֥ת רְאֵ֖ם לֽוֹ׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֤y lo'-na֨chashsh֙ bּeya'aqo֔b velo'-qe֖sem bּeyishsera'e֑l kּa'e֗t ye'ame֤r leya'aqob֙ uleyishsera'e֔l mah-pּa֖'al 'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)There is no divination against Jacob, no evil omens against Israel. It will now be said of Jacob and of Israel, 'See what God has done!'

כִּ֤י לֹא־נַ֨חַשׁ֙ בְּיַעֲקֹ֔ב וְלֹא־קֶ֖סֶם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כָּעֵ֗ת יֵאָמֵ֤ר לְיַעֲקֹב֙ וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מַה־פָּ֖עַל אֵֽל׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): hen-'am֙ kּelabi֣y yaq֔um veka'ari֖y yitenashsּa֑ lo֤ yishshekּab֙ 'ad-yo֣'kal te֔rep vedam-chalali֖ym yishshetּeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The people rise like a lioness; they rouse themselves like a lion that does not rest until it devours its prey and drinks the blood of its victims."

הֶן־עָם֙ כְּלָבִ֣יא יָק֔וּם וְכַאֲרִ֖י יִתְנַשָּׂ֑א לֹ֤א יִשְׁכַּב֙ עַד־יֹ֣אכַל טֶ֔רֶף וְדַם־חֲלָלִ֖ים יִשְׁתֶּֽה׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer bּalaq֙ 'el-bּile'a֔m gּam-qo֖b lo֣ tiqּobe֑nּu gּam-bּare֖ke lo֥ tebarakeֽnּu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Balak said to him, "Neither curse them at all nor bless them at all!"

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר בָּלָק֙ אֶל־בִּלְעָ֔ם גַּם־קֹ֖ב לֹ֣א תִקֳּבֶ֑נּוּ גַּם־בָּרֵ֖ךְ לֹ֥א תְבָרֲכֶֽנּוּ׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣'an bּile'a֔m vayּo֖'mer 'el-bּala֑q halo֗ dּibּa֤retּiy 'ele֨yka֙ le'mo֔r kּo֛l 'ashsher-yedabּe֥r yehva֖h 'ot֥o 'ֽe'eshseֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Balaam answered, "Did I not tell you I must do whatever the LORD says?"

וַיַּ֣עַן בִּלְעָ֔ם וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֶל־בָּלָ֑ק הֲלֹ֗א דִּבַּ֤רְתִּי אֵלֶ֨יךָ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־יְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֹת֥וֹ אֶֽעֱשֶֽׂה׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer bּalaq֙ 'el-bּile'a֔m lekah-nּa'֙ 'eqּa֣chaka֔ 'el-maq֖om 'ache֑r 'ula֤y yiyshshar֙ bּe'eyne֣y ha'elohi֔ym veqabּo֥to li֖y mishshּaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Balak said to Balaam, "Come, let me take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God to let you curse them for me from there."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר בָּלָק֙ אֶל־בִּלְעָ֔ם לְכָה־נָּא֙ אֶקָּ֣חֲךָ֔ אֶל־מָק֖וֹם אַחֵ֑ר אוּלַ֤י יִישַׁר֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וְקַבֹּ֥תוֹ לִ֖י מִשָּֽׁם׃

28
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqּa֥ch bּala֖q 'et-bּile'a֑m ro֣'shsh hapּe'֔or hanּishsheqa֖p 'al-pּene֥y hayeshshiymoֽn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, overlooking the wasteland.

וַיִּקַּ֥ח בָּלָ֖ק אֶת־בִּלְעָ֑ם רֹ֣אשׁ הַפְּע֔וֹר הַנִּשְׁקָ֖ף עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הַיְשִׁימֹֽן׃

29
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer bּile'am֙ 'el-bּala֔q bּeneh-li֥y baze֖h shshibe'a֣h mizebּecho֑t vehake֥n liy֙ bּaze֔h shshibe'a֥h pari֖ym veshshibe'a֥h 'eyliֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Balaam said, "Build seven altars here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me."

Edified Edition (EDE)Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ בָּלָ֔ק כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר אָמַ֣ר בִּלְעָ֑ם וַיַּ֛עַל פָּ֥ר וָאַ֖יִל בַּמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃
