Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣re bּile'a֗m kּi֣y t֞ob bּe'eyne֤y yehvah֙ lebare֣ke 'et-yishsera'e֔l velo'-hala֥ke kּepaֽ'am-bּepa֖'am liqera֣'t nechashshi֑ym vayּa֥shshet 'el-hamּidebּa֖r pּanaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not resort to enchantments as at other times, but turned his face toward the wilderness.

וַיַּ֣רְא בִּלְעָ֗ם כִּ֣י ט֞וֹב בְּעֵינֵ֤י יְהוָה֙ לְבָרֵ֣ךְ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְלֹא־הָלַ֥ךְ כְּפַֽעַם־בְּפַ֖עַם לִקְרַ֣את נְחָשִׁ֑ים וַיָּ֥שֶׁת אֶל־הַמִּדְבָּ֖ר פָּנָֽיו׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsּa֨ bile'a֜m 'et-'eyna֗yv vayּare'֙ 'et-yishsera'e֔l shshoke֖n lishshebata֑yv vatּehi֥y 'ala֖yv r֥ucha 'elohiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Balaam looked out and saw Israel encamped tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God came on him

וַיִּשָּׂ֨א בִלְעָ֜ם אֶת־עֵינָ֗יו וַיַּרְא֙ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שֹׁכֵ֖ן לִשְׁבָטָ֑יו וַתְּהִ֥י עָלָ֖יו ר֥וּחַ אֱלֹהִֽים׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsּa֥ meshshal֖o vayּo'ma֑r ne'u֤m bּile'am֙ bּen֣o be'o֔r une'u֥m hagּe֖ber shshetu֥m ha'aֽyin׃
Edified Edition (EDE)and he spoke his message: "The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of one whose eye sees clearly,

וַיִּשָּׂ֥א מְשָׁל֖וֹ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר נְאֻ֤ם בִּלְעָם֙ בְּנ֣וֹ בְעֹ֔ר וּנְאֻ֥ם הַגֶּ֖בֶר שְׁתֻ֥ם הָעָֽיִן׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): ne'u֕m shshome֖'a 'imerey-'e֑l 'ashshe֨r machaze֤h shshadּay֙ yeֽcheze֔h nope֖l ugel֥uy 'eynaֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened:

נְאֻ֕ם שֹׁמֵ֖עַ אִמְרֵי־אֵ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר מַחֲזֵ֤ה שַׁדַּי֙ יֶֽחֱזֶ֔ה נֹפֵ֖ל וּגְל֥וּי עֵינָֽיִם׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): mah-tּo֥bu 'ohale֖yka ya'aqo֑b mishshekּenote֖yka yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'How beautiful are your tents, Jacob, your dwelling places, Israel!

מַה־טֹּ֥בוּ אֹהָלֶ֖יךָ יַעֲקֹ֑ב מִשְׁכְּנֹתֶ֖יךָ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּinechali֣ym nitּa֔yu kּeganּo֖t 'ale֣y naha֑r kּa'ahaliym֙ nata֣ yehva֔h kּa'arazi֖ym 'aley-maֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Like valleys they spread out, like gardens beside a river, like aloes planted by the LORD, like cedars beside the waters.

כִּנְחָלִ֣ים נִטָּ֔יוּ כְּגַנֹּ֖ת עֲלֵ֣י נָהָ֑ר כַּאֲהָלִים֙ נָטַ֣ע יְהוָ֔ה כַּאֲרָזִ֖ים עֲלֵי־מָֽיִם׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): yiֽzּal-ma֨yim֙ midּa֣leya֔v vezare'֖o bּema֣yim rabּi֑ym veyaro֤m meֽ'agag֙ malekּ֔o vetinּashsּe֖ malekutֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Water will flow from their buckets; their seed will have abundant water. Their king will be greater than Agag; their kingdom will be exalted.

יִֽזַּל־מַ֨יִם֙ מִדָּ֣לְיָ֔ו וְזַרְע֖וֹ בְּמַ֣יִם רַבִּ֑ים וְיָרֹ֤ם מֵֽאֲגַג֙ מַלְכּ֔וֹ וְתִנַּשֵּׂ֖א מַלְכֻתֽוֹ׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): e֚l motziy'֣o mimּitzera֔yim kּeto'apo֥t re'e֖m l֑o yo'ka֞l gּoyi֣m tzara֗yv ve'atzemoteyhe֛m yegare֖m vechitzּa֥yv yimechaֽtz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox. They devour hostile nations and break their bones in pieces; with their arrows they pierce them.

אֵ֚ל מוֹצִיא֣וֹ מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם כְּתוֹעֲפֹ֥ת רְאֵ֖ם ל֑וֹ יֹאכַ֞ל גּוֹיִ֣ם צָרָ֗יו וְעַצְמֹתֵיהֶ֛ם יְגָרֵ֖ם וְחִצָּ֥יו יִמְחָֽץ׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּara֨ shshaka֧b kּa'ari֛y ukelabi֖y mi֣y yeqiyme֑nּu mebarake֣yka bar֔uke ve'orere֖yka 'arֽur׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Like a lion they crouch and lie down, like a lioness, who dares to rouse them? May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be cursed!' "

כָּרַ֨ע שָׁכַ֧ב כַּאֲרִ֛י וּכְלָבִ֖יא מִ֣י יְקִימֶ֑נּוּ מְבָרֲכֶ֣יךָ בָר֔וּךְ וְאֹרְרֶ֖יךָ אָרֽוּר׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiֽchar-'a֤p bּalaq֙ 'el-bּile'a֔m vayּisepּo֖q 'et-kּapּa֑yv vayּo֨'mer bּala֜q 'el-bּile'a֗m laqo֤b 'oֽyebay֙ qera'ti֔yka vehinּeh֙ bּera֣ketּa bare֔ke ze֖h shshalo֥shsh pּe'amiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Balak’s anger burned against Balaam. He struck his hands together and said to him, "I summoned you to curse my enemies, but you have blessed them these three times.

וַיִּֽחַר־אַ֤ף בָּלָק֙ אֶל־בִּלְעָ֔ם וַיִּסְפֹּ֖ק אֶת־כַּפָּ֑יו וַיֹּ֨אמֶר בָּלָ֜ק אֶל־בִּלְעָ֗ם לָקֹ֤ב אֹֽיְבַי֙ קְרָאתִ֔יךָ וְהִנֵּה֙ בֵּרַ֣כְתָּ בָרֵ֔ךְ זֶ֖ה שָׁלֹ֥שׁ פְּעָמִֽים׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֖h bּerach-leka֣ 'el-meqome֑ka 'ama֨retּiy֙ kּabּe֣d 'akabּedeka֔ vehinּe֛h mena'aka֥ yehva֖h mikּabֽod׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now leave at once and go home! I said I would reward you handsomely, but the LORD has kept you from being rewarded."

וְעַתָּ֖ה בְּרַח־לְךָ֣ אֶל־מְקוֹמֶ֑ךָ אָמַ֨רְתִּי֙ כַּבֵּ֣ד אֲכַבֶּדְךָ֔ וְהִנֵּ֛ה מְנָעֲךָ֥ יְהוָ֖ה מִכָּבֽוֹד׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֥'mer bּile'a֖m 'el-bּala֑q halo֗ gּa֧m 'el-male'ake֛yka 'ashsher-shshala֥chetּa 'ela֖y dּibּa֥retּiy le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Balaam answered Balak, "Did I not tell the messengers you sent me,

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר בִּלְעָ֖ם אֶל־בָּלָ֑ק הֲלֹ֗א גַּ֧ם אֶל־מַלְאָכֶ֛יךָ אֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַ֥חְתָּ אֵלַ֖י דִּבַּ֥רְתִּי לֵאמֹֽר׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): im-yitּen-li֨y bala֜q melo֣ beyto֮ kּe֣sep vezahab֒ lo֣ 'uka֗l la'abor֙ 'et-pּi֣y yehva֔h la'ashs֥ot toba֛h '֥o ra'a֖h milּibּi֑y 'ashsher-yedabּe֥r yehva֖h 'ot֥o 'adabּeֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the LORD, and I must say only what the LORD says'?

אִם־יִתֶּן־לִ֨י בָלָ֜ק מְלֹ֣א בֵיתוֹ֮ כֶּ֣סֶף וְזָהָב֒ לֹ֣א אוּכַ֗ל לַעֲבֹר֙ אֶת־פִּ֣י יְהוָ֔ה לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת טוֹבָ֛ה א֥וֹ רָעָ֖ה מִלִּבִּ֑י אֲשֶׁר־יְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֹת֥וֹ אֲדַבֵּֽר׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֕h hineni֥y hole֖ke le'amּi֑y lekah֙ 'iy'a֣tzeka֔ 'ashshe֨r ya'ashse֜h ha'a֥m hazּe֛h le'amּeka֖ bּe'achari֥yt hayּamiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now I am going back to my people, but come, let me warn you of what this people will do to your people in days to come."

וְעַתָּ֕ה הִנְנִ֥י הוֹלֵ֖ךְ לְעַמִּ֑י לְכָה֙ אִיעָ֣צְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יַעֲשֶׂ֜ה הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֛ה לְעַמְּךָ֖ בְּאַחֲרִ֥ית הַיָּמִֽים׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsּa֥ meshshal֖o vayּo'ma֑r ne'u֤m bּile'am֙ bּen֣o be'o֔r une'u֥m hagּe֖ber shshetu֥m ha'aֽyin׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he spoke his message: "The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of one whose eye sees clearly,

וַיִּשָּׂ֥א מְשָׁל֖וֹ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר נְאֻ֤ם בִּלְעָם֙ בְּנ֣וֹ בְעֹ֔ר וּנְאֻ֥ם הַגֶּ֖בֶר שְׁתֻ֥ם הָעָֽיִן׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): ne'u֗m shshome֨'a֙ 'imerey-'e֔l veyode֖'a dּa֣'at 'eley֑on machaze֤h shshadּay֙ yֽecheze֔h nope֖l ugel֥uy 'eynaֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened:

נְאֻ֗ם שֹׁמֵ֨עַ֙ אִמְרֵי־אֵ֔ל וְיֹדֵ֖עַ דַּ֣עַת עֶלְי֑וֹן מַחֲזֵ֤ה שַׁדַּי֙ יֶֽחֱזֶ֔ה נֹפֵ֖ל וּגְל֥וּי עֵינָֽיִם׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): ere'e֨nּu֙ velo֣ 'atּa֔h 'ashshure֖nּu velo֣ qar֑ob dּara֨ke kּoka֜b miֽyּa'aqo֗b veqa֥m shshe֨bet֙ miyּishsera'e֔l umachatz֙ pּa'ate֣y mo'a֔b veqareqa֖r kּal-bּeney-shsheֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a sceptre will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the people of Sheth. [1]

אֶרְאֶ֨נּוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א עַתָּ֔ה אֲשׁוּרֶ֖נּוּ וְלֹ֣א קָר֑וֹב דָּרַ֨ךְ כּוֹכָ֜ב מִֽיַּעֲקֹ֗ב וְקָ֥ם שֵׁ֨בֶט֙ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּמָחַץ֙ פַּאֲתֵ֣י מוֹאָ֔ב וְקַרְקַ֖ר כָּל־בְּנֵי־שֵֽׁת׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֨h 'ed֜om yereshsha֗h vehaya֧h yereshsha֛h shse'i֖yr 'oyeba֑yv veyishsera'e֖l 'o֥shseh chaֽyil׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Edom will be conquered; Seir, his enemy, will be conquered, but Israel will grow strong.

וְהָיָ֨ה אֱד֜וֹם יְרֵשָׁ֗ה וְהָיָ֧ה יְרֵשָׁ֛ה שֵׂעִ֖יר אֹיְבָ֑יו וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עֹ֥שֶׂה חָֽיִל׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): veye֖redּe miֽyּa'aqo֑b vehֽe'ebi֥yd shsari֖yd me'iֽyr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)A ruler will come out of Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city.' "

וְיֵ֖רְדְּ מִֽיַּעֲקֹ֑ב וְהֶֽאֱבִ֥יד שָׂרִ֖יד מֵעִֽיר׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּare'֙ 'et-'amale֔q vayּishsּa֥ meshshal֖o vayּo'ma֑r re'shshi֤yt gּoyim֙ 'amale֔q ve'achariyt֖o 'ade֥y 'obeֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Balaam saw Amalek and spoke his message: "Amalek was first among the nations, but its end will be utter destruction."

וַיַּרְא֙ אֶת־עֲמָלֵ֔ק וַיִּשָּׂ֥א מְשָׁל֖וֹ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר רֵאשִׁ֤ית גּוֹיִם֙ עֲמָלֵ֔ק וְאַחֲרִית֖וֹ עֲדֵ֥י אֹבֵֽד׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּare'֙ 'et-haqּeyni֔y vayּishsּa֥ meshshal֖o vayּo'ma֑r 'eytan֙ mֽoshshabe֔ka veshsi֥ym bּasּe֖la qinּeֽka׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he saw the Kenites and spoke his message: "Your dwelling place is secure, your nest is set in a rock;

וַיַּרְא֙ אֶת־הַקֵּינִ֔י וַיִּשָּׂ֥א מְשָׁל֖וֹ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אֵיתָן֙ מֽוֹשָׁבֶ֔ךָ וְשִׂ֥ים בַּסֶּ֖לַע קִנֶּֽךָ׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֥y 'im-yiheye֖h leba֣'eֽr qa֑yin 'ad-ma֖h 'ashshּ֥ur tּishshebּeֽkּa׃
Edified Edition (EDE)yet you Kainites will be destroyed when Ashur takes you captive."

כִּ֥י אִם־יִהְיֶ֖ה לְבָ֣עֵֽר קָ֑יִן עַד־מָ֖ה אַשּׁ֥וּר תִּשְׁבֶּֽךָּ׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsּa֥ meshshal֖o vayּo'ma֑r '֕oy mi֥y yicheye֖h mishsּum֥o 'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Finally he spoke his message: "Ah, who can live when God does this?

וַיִּשָּׂ֥א מְשָׁל֖וֹ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר א֕וֹי מִ֥י יִחְיֶ֖ה מִשֻּׂמ֥וֹ אֵֽל׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): vetziym֙ miyּa֣d kּitּi֔ym ve'inּ֥u 'ashshּ֖ur ve'inּu-'e֑ber vegam-h֖u 'ade֥y 'obeֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Ships will come from the coasts of Kittim; they will subdue Ashur and Eber, but they too will come to ruin."

וְצִים֙ מִיַּ֣ד כִּתִּ֔ים וְעִנּ֥וּ אַשּׁ֖וּר וְעִנּוּ־עֵ֑בֶר וְגַם־ה֖וּא עֲדֵ֥י אֹבֵֽד׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣qam bּile'a֔m vayּe֖leke vayּa֣shshab limeqom֑o vegam-bּala֖q hala֥ke ledarekּֽo׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Balaam got up and returned home, and Balak went his own way.

וַיָּ֣קָם בִּלְעָ֔ם וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ וַיָּ֣שָׁב לִמְקֹמ֑וֹ וְגַם־בָּלָ֖ק הָלַ֥ךְ לְדַרְכּֽוֹ׃פ
