Chapter 32
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): umiqene֣h ׀ ra֗b haya֞h libene֧y re'ube֛n velibeney-ga֖d 'atz֣um me'o֑d vayּire'֞u 'et-'e֤retz ya'ezer֙ ve'et-'e֣retz gּile'a֔d vehinּe֥h hamּaq֖om meq֥om miqeneֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now the tribes of Reuben and Gad had very large herds and flocks. When they saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock,

וּמִקְנֶ֣ה ׀ רַ֗ב הָיָ֞ה לִבְנֵ֧י רְאוּבֵ֛ן וְלִבְנֵי־גָ֖ד עָצ֣וּם מְאֹ֑ד וַיִּרְא֞וּ אֶת־אֶ֤רֶץ יַעְזֵר֙ וְאֶת־אֶ֣רֶץ גִּלְעָ֔ד וְהִנֵּ֥ה הַמָּק֖וֹם מְק֥וֹם מִקְנֶֽה׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֥'u beneֽy-ga֖d ubene֣y re'ube֑n vayּo'mer֤u 'el-moshsheh֙ ve'el-'ele'aza֣r hakּohe֔n ve'el-neshsiy'e֥y ha'eda֖h le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)they came to Moses, Eleazar the priest and the leaders of the community, and said,

וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ בְנֵֽי־גָ֖ד וּבְנֵ֣י רְאוּבֵ֑ן וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ אֶל־מֹשֶׁה֙ וְאֶל־אֶלְעָזָ֣ר הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְאֶל־נְשִׂיאֵ֥י הָעֵדָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): atar֤ot vediybon֙ veya'eze֣r venimera֔h vecheshshebּ֖on ve'ele'ale֑h ushseba֥m uneb֖o ube'oֽn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon,

עֲטָר֤וֹת וְדִיבֹן֙ וְיַעְזֵ֣ר וְנִמְרָ֔ה וְחֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן וְאֶלְעָלֵ֑ה וּשְׂבָ֥ם וּנְב֖וֹ וּבְעֹֽן׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): ha'a֗retz 'ashshe֨r hikּa֤h yehvah֙ lipeney֙ 'ada֣t yishsera'e֔l 'e֥retz miqene֖h hi֑v velaֽ'abade֖yka miqeneֽh׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)the land the LORD subdued before the people of Israel, is suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock.

הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִכָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ לִפְנֵי֙ עֲדַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶ֥רֶץ מִקְנֶ֖ה הִ֑וא וְלַֽעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ מִקְנֶֽה׃ס

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'mer֗u 'im-matza֤'nu chen֙ bּe'eyne֔yka yutּa֞n 'et-ha'a֧retz hazּo֛'t la'abade֖yka la'achuzּa֑h 'al-tּa'abire֖nu 'et-hayּaredּeֽn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)If we have found favour in your eyes," they said, "let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan."

וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ אִם־מָצָ֤אנוּ חֵן֙ בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ יֻתַּ֞ן אֶת־הָאָ֧רֶץ הַזֹּ֛את לַעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ לַאֲחֻזָּ֑ה אַל־תַּעֲבִרֵ֖נוּ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer moshshe֔h libeney-ga֖d velibene֣y re'ube֑n ha'aֽcheyke֗m yabo֨'u֙ lamּilechama֔h ve'atּe֖m tּe֥shshebu poֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, "Should your fellow Israelites go to war while you sit here?

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֔ה לִבְנֵי־גָ֖ד וְלִבְנֵ֣י רְאוּבֵ֑ן הַאַֽחֵיכֶ֗ם יָבֹ֨אוּ֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְאַתֶּ֖ם תֵּ֥שְׁבוּ פֹֽה׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vela֣mּah tnv'vn teniy'֔un 'et-le֖b bּene֣y yishsera'e֑l meֽ'abor֙ 'el-ha'a֔retz 'ashsher-nata֥n lahe֖m yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Why do you discourage the Israelites from crossing over into the land the LORD has given them?

וְלָ֣מָּה תנואון תְנִיא֔וּן אֶת־לֵ֖ב בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מֵֽעֲבֹר֙ אֶל־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֥h 'ashs֖u 'aboteyke֑m bּeshshalechi֥y 'ota֛m miqּade֥shsh bּarene֖'a lire'֥ot 'et-ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)This is what your ancestors did when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to view the land.

כֹּ֥ה עָשׂ֖וּ אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֑ם בְּשָׁלְחִ֥י אֹתָ֛ם מִקָּדֵ֥שׁ בַּרְנֵ֖עַ לִרְא֥וֹת אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּa'al֞u 'ad-na֣chal 'eshshekּ֗ol vayּire'u֙ 'et-ha'a֔retz vayּani֕y'u 'et-le֖b bּene֣y yishsera'e֑l lebiletּiy-bo'֙ 'el-ha'a֔retz 'ashsher-nata֥n lahe֖m yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)After they went up to the Valley of Eshkol and viewed the land, they discouraged the Israelites from entering the land the LORD had given them.

וַֽיַּעֲל֞וּ עַד־נַ֣חַל אֶשְׁכּ֗וֹל וַיִּרְאוּ֙ אֶת־הָאָ֔רֶץ וַיָּנִ֕יאוּ אֶת־לֵ֖ב בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְבִלְתִּי־בֹא֙ אֶל־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiֽchar-'a֥p yehva֖h bּayּ֣om hah֑u vayּishshּaba֖ le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD’s anger was aroused that day and he swore this oath:

וַיִּֽחַר־אַ֥ף יְהוָ֖ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וַיִּשָּׁבַ֖ע לֵאמֹֽר׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): im-yire'֨u ha'anashshi֜ym ha'oli֣ym mimּitzera֗yim mibּe֨n 'eshseri֤ym shshanah֙ vama֔'elah 'e֚t ha'adama֔h 'ashshe֥r nishshebּa֛'etּiy le'aberaha֥m leyitzecha֖q uֽleya'aqo֑b kּi֥y lo'-mile'֖u 'acharaֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of those who were twenty years old or more when they came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,

אִם־יִרְא֨וּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֜ים הָעֹלִ֣ים מִמִּצְרַ֗יִם מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה אֵ֚ת הָאֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֛עְתִּי לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם לְיִצְחָ֖ק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹ֑ב כִּ֥י לֹא־מִלְא֖וּ אַחֲרָֽי׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּiletּi֞y kּale֤b bּen-yepunּeh֙ haqּenizּi֔y viyhoshshu֖'a bּin-n֑un kּi֥y mile'֖u 'achare֥y yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the LORD wholeheartedly.'

בִּלְתִּ֞י כָּלֵ֤ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּה֙ הַקְּנִזִּ֔י וִיהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ בִּן־נ֑וּן כִּ֥י מִלְא֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiֽchar-'a֤p yehvah֙ bּeyishsera'e֔l vayeni'em֙ bּamּidebּa֔r 'arebּa'i֖ym shshana֑h 'ad-tּom֙ kּal-hadּ֔or ha'oshse֥h hara֖ bּe'eyne֥y yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD’s anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the wilderness for forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.

וַיִּֽחַר־אַ֤ף יְהוָה֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיְנִעֵם֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר אַרְבָּעִ֖ים שָׁנָ֑ה עַד־תֹּם֙ כָּל־הַדּ֔וֹר הָעֹשֶׂ֥ה הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehinּe֣h qametּe֗m tּa֚chat 'abo֣teyke֔m tּarebּ֖ut 'anashshi֣ym chatּa'i֑ym lisepּ֣ot '֗od 'a֛l char֥on 'ap-yehva֖h 'el-yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"And here you are, a brood of sinners, standing in the place of your ancestors and making the LORD even more angry with Israel.

וְהִנֵּ֣ה קַמְתֶּ֗ם תַּ֚חַת אֲבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם תַּרְבּ֖וּת אֲנָשִׁ֣ים חַטָּאִ֑ים לִסְפּ֣וֹת ע֗וֹד עַ֛ל חֲר֥וֹן אַף־יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֤y teshshubun֙ meֽ'achara֔yv veyasa֣p '֔od lehanּiych֖o bּamּidebּa֑r veshshiֽchatּe֖m lekal-ha'a֥m hazּeֽh׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)If you turn away from following him, he will again leave all this people in the wilderness, and you will be the cause of their destruction."

כִּ֤י תְשׁוּבֻן֙ מֵֽאַחֲרָ֔יו וְיָסַ֣ף ע֔וֹד לְהַנִּיח֖וֹ בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר וְשִֽׁחַתֶּ֖ם לְכָל־הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּֽה׃ס

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּigּeshsh֤u 'elayv֙ va֣yּo'mer֔u gּidero֥t tzo֛'n nibene֥h lemiqene֖nu pּo֑h ve'ari֖ym letapּeֽnu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then they came up to him and said, "We would like to build pens here for our livestock and cities for our women and children.

וַיִּגְּשׁ֤וּ אֵלָיו֙ וַ֣יֹּאמְר֔וּ גִּדְרֹ֥ת צֹ֛אן נִבְנֶ֥ה לְמִקְנֵ֖נוּ פֹּ֑ה וְעָרִ֖ים לְטַפֵּֽנוּ׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'ana֜chenu nechale֣tz chushshi֗ym lipeney֙ bּene֣y yishsera'e֔l 'a֛d 'ashshe֥r 'im-habiֽy'onu֖m 'el-meqoma֑m veyashsha֤b tapּe֨nu֙ bּe'are֣y hamּibetza֔r mipּene֖y yoshshebe֥y ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But we will arm ourselves for battle and go ahead of the Israelites until we have brought them to their place. Meanwhile our women and children will live in fortified cities, for protection from the inhabitants of the land.

וַאֲנַ֜חְנוּ נֵחָלֵ֣ץ חֻשִׁ֗ים לִפְנֵי֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל עַ֛ד אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִם־הֲבִֽיאֹנֻ֖ם אֶל־מְקוֹמָ֑ם וְיָשַׁ֤ב טַפֵּ֨נוּ֙ בְּעָרֵ֣י הַמִּבְצָ֔ר מִפְּנֵ֖י יֹשְׁבֵ֥י הָאָֽרֶץ׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): lo֥ nashsh֖ub 'el-bּatּe֑ynu 'a֗d hitenachel֙ bּene֣y yishsera'e֔l 'i֖yshsh nachalatֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)We will not return to our homes until every Israelite has received his inheritance.

לֹ֥א נָשׁ֖וּב אֶל־בָּתֵּ֑ינוּ עַ֗ד הִתְנַחֵל֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אִ֖ישׁ נַחֲלָתֽוֹ׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y lo֤ ninechal֙ 'itּa֔m me'e֥ber layּaredּe֖n vaha֑le'ah kּi֣y ba֤'ah nachalate֨nu֙ 'ele֔ynu me'e֥ber hayּaredּe֖n mizeraֽchah׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)We will not receive any inheritance with them on the other side of the Jordan, because our inheritance has come to us on the east side of the Jordan."

כִּ֣י לֹ֤א נִנְחַל֙ אִתָּ֔ם מֵעֵ֥בֶר לַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן וָהָ֑לְאָה כִּ֣י בָ֤אָה נַחֲלָתֵ֨נוּ֙ אֵלֵ֔ינוּ מֵעֵ֥בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן מִזְרָֽחָה׃פ

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer 'aleyhem֙ moshshe֔h 'iֽm-tּa'ashs֖un 'et-hadּaba֣r hazּe֑h 'im-tּechaֽletz֛u lipene֥y yehva֖h lamּilechamaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Moses said to them, "If you will do this, if you will arm yourselves before the LORD for battle

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם֙ מֹשֶׁ֔ה אִֽם־תַּעֲשׂ֖וּן אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה אִם־תֵּחָֽלְצ֛וּ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'aba֨r lake֧m kּal-chal֛utz 'et-hayּaredּe֖n lipene֣y yehva֑h 'a֧d horiyshsh֛o 'et-'oyeba֖yv mipּanaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)and if all of you who are armed cross the Jordan before the LORD until he has driven his enemies out before him,

וְעָבַ֨ר לָכֶ֧ם כָּל־חָל֛וּץ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה עַ֧ד הוֹרִישׁ֛וֹ אֶת־אֹיְבָ֖יו מִפָּנָֽיו׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): venikebּeshsha֨h ha'a֜retz lipene֤y yehvah֙ ve'acha֣r tּashshu֔bu viheyiyte֧m neqiyּi֛ym meyehva֖h umiyּishsera'e֑l ve֠hayetah ha'a֨retz hazּo֥'t lake֛m la'achuzּa֖h lipene֥y yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)then when the land is subdued before the LORD, you may return and be free from your obligation to the LORD and to Israel. And this land will be your possession before the LORD.

וְנִכְבְּשָׁ֨ה הָאָ֜רֶץ לִפְנֵ֤י יְהוָה֙ וְאַחַ֣ר תָּשֻׁ֔בוּ וִהְיִיתֶ֧ם נְקִיִּ֛ים מֵיְהוָ֖ה וּמִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְ֠הָיְתָה הָאָ֨רֶץ הַזֹּ֥את לָכֶ֛ם לַאֲחֻזָּ֖ה לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'im-lo֤ ta'ashsun֙ kּe֔n hinּe֥h chata'te֖m layhva֑h ude'u֙ chatּa'teke֔m 'ashshe֥r tּimetza֖ 'etekeֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.

וְאִם־לֹ֤א תַעֲשׂוּן֙ כֵּ֔ן הִנֵּ֥ה חֲטָאתֶ֖ם לַיהוָ֑ה וּדְעוּ֙ חַטַּאתְכֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר תִּמְצָ֖א אֶתְכֶֽם׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּenֽu-lake֤m 'ariym֙ letapּeke֔m ugedero֖t letzona'ake֑m vehayּotze֥ mipּiyke֖m tּa'ashsֽu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Build cities for your women and children, and pens for your flocks, but do what you have promised."

בְּנֽוּ־לָכֶ֤ם עָרִים֙ לְטַפְּכֶ֔ם וּגְדֵרֹ֖ת לְצֹנַאֲכֶ֑ם וְהַיֹּצֵ֥א מִפִּיכֶ֖ם תַּעֲשֽׂוּ׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer bּeney-gad֙ ubene֣y re'ube֔n 'el-moshshe֖h le'mo֑r 'abade֣yka ya'ashs֔u kּa'ashshe֥r 'adoni֖y metzaueֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, "Your servants will do as our lord commands.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר בְּנֵי־גָד֙ וּבְנֵ֣י רְאוּבֵ֔ן אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר עֲבָדֶ֣יךָ יַעֲשׂ֔וּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲדֹנִ֖י מְצַוֶּֽה׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): tapּe֣nu nashshe֔ynu miqene֖nu vekal-bּehemetּe֑nu yiֽheyu-shsha֖m bּe'are֥y hagּile'aֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Our children and wives, our flocks and herds will stay here in the cities of Gilead.

טַפֵּ֣נוּ נָשֵׁ֔ינוּ מִקְנֵ֖נוּ וְכָל־בְּהֶמְתֵּ֑נוּ יִֽהְיוּ־שָׁ֖ם בְּעָרֵ֥י הַגִּלְעָֽד׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'abade֨yka yaֽ'aber֜u kּal-chal֥utz tzaba֛ lipene֥y yehva֖h lamּilechama֑h kּa'ashshe֥r 'adoni֖y dּobeֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But your servants, every man who is armed for battle, will cross over to fight before the LORD, just as our lord says."

וַעֲבָדֶ֨יךָ יַֽעַבְר֜וּ כָּל־חֲל֥וּץ צָבָ֛א לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲדֹנִ֖י דֹּבֵֽר׃

28
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayetza֤v lahem֙ moshshe֔h 'e֚t 'ele'aza֣r hakּohe֔n ve'e֖t yehoshshu֣'a bּin-n֑un ve'et-ra'shshe֛y 'ab֥ot hamּatּ֖ot libene֥y yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Moses gave orders about them to Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun and to the family heads of the Israelite tribes.

וַיְצַ֤ו לָהֶם֙ מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֵ֚ת אֶלְעָזָ֣ר הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְאֵ֖ת יְהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ בִּן־נ֑וּן וְאֶת־רָאשֵׁ֛י אֲב֥וֹת הַמַּטּ֖וֹת לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

29
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer moshshe֜h 'alehe֗m 'im-ya'aber֣u beney-ga֣d ubeney-re'ube֣n ׀ 'i֠tּekem 'eֽt-hayּaredּe֞n kּal-chal֤utz lamּilechamah֙ lipene֣y yehva֔h venikebּeshsha֥h ha'a֖retz lipeneyke֑m unetatּe֥m lahe֛m 'et-'e֥retz hagּile'a֖d la'achuzּaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He said to them, "If the Gadites and Reubenites, every man armed for battle, cross over the Jordan with you before the LORD, then when the land is subdued before you, you must give them the land of Gilead as their possession.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֜ה אֲלֵהֶ֗ם אִם־יַעַבְר֣וּ בְנֵי־גָ֣ד וּבְנֵי־רְאוּבֵ֣ן ׀ אִ֠תְּכֶם אֶֽת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֞ן כָּל־חָל֤וּץ לַמִּלְחָמָה֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וְנִכְבְּשָׁ֥ה הָאָ֖רֶץ לִפְנֵיכֶ֑ם וּנְתַתֶּ֥ם לָהֶ֛ם אֶת־אֶ֥רֶץ הַגִּלְעָ֖ד לַאֲחֻזָּֽה׃

30
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'im-lo֧ yֽa'aber֛u chalutzi֖ym 'itּeke֑m venoֽ'chaz֥u betokeke֖m bּe'e֥retz kּenaֽ'an׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But if they do not cross over with you armed, they must accept their possession with you in Canaan."

וְאִם־לֹ֧א יַֽעַבְר֛וּ חֲלוּצִ֖ים אִתְּכֶ֑ם וְנֹֽאחֲז֥וּ בְתֹכְכֶ֖ם בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃

31

Edified Edition (EDE)The Gadites and Reubenites answered, "Your servants will do what the LORD has said.

וַיַּֽעֲנ֧וּ בְנֵי־גָ֛ד וּבְנֵ֥י רְאוּבֵ֖ן לֵאמֹ֑ר אֵת֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה אֶל־עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ כֵּ֥ן נַעֲשֶֽׂה׃

32
Phonetic (Hebrew): na֣chenu na'abo֧r chalutzi֛ym lipene֥y yehva֖h 'e֣retz kּena֑'an ve'itּa֨nu֙ 'achuzּa֣t nachalate֔nu me'e֖ber layּaredּeֽn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)We will cross over before the LORD into Canaan armed, but the property we inherit will be on this side of the Jordan."

נַ֣חְנוּ נַעֲבֹ֧ר חֲלוּצִ֛ים לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה אֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן וְאִתָּ֨נוּ֙ אֲחֻזַּ֣ת נַחֲלָתֵ֔נוּ מֵעֵ֖בֶר לַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitּe֣n lahe֣m ׀ moshshe֡h libeney-gad֩ velibene֨y re'ube֜n velachatzi֣y ׀ shshe֣bet ׀ menashshּe֣h ben-yose֗p 'et-mamele֨ket֙ siychon֙ me֣leke haֽ'emori֔y ve'et-mamele֔ket '֖og me֣leke habּashsha֑n ha'a֗retz le'are֨yha֙ bּigebulo֔t 'are֥y ha'a֖retz sabiֽyb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Moses gave to the Gadites, the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the whole land with its cities and the territory around them.

וַיִּתֵּ֣ן לָהֶ֣ם ׀ מֹשֶׁ֡ה לִבְנֵי־גָד֩ וְלִבְנֵ֨י רְאוּבֵ֜ן וְלַחֲצִ֣י ׀ שֵׁ֣בֶט ׀ מְנַשֶּׁ֣ה בֶן־יוֹסֵ֗ף אֶת־מַמְלֶ֨כֶת֙ סִיחֹן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הָֽאֱמֹרִ֔י וְאֶת־מַמְלֶ֔כֶת ע֖וֹג מֶ֣לֶךְ הַבָּשָׁ֑ן הָאָ֗רֶץ לְעָרֶ֨יהָ֙ בִּגְבֻלֹ֔ת עָרֵ֥י הָאָ֖רֶץ סָבִֽיב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiben֣u beney-ga֔d 'et-dּiybo֖n ve'et-'ataro֑t ve'e֖t 'aro'eֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The Gadites rebuilt Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,

וַיִּבְנ֣וּ בְנֵי־גָ֔ד אֶת־דִּיבֹ֖ן וְאֶת־עֲטָרֹ֑ת וְאֵ֖ת עֲרֹעֵֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-'atero֥t shshopa֛n ve'et-ya'eze֖r veyagebּohaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Atroth Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,

וְאֶת־עַטְרֹ֥ת שׁוֹפָ֛ן וְאֶת־יַעְזֵ֖ר וְיָגְבֳּהָֽה׃

36
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-bּe֥yt nimera֖h ve'et-bּe֣yt hara֑n 'are֥y mibetza֖r vegidero֥t tzoֽ'n׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran as fortified cities, and built pens for their flocks.

וְאֶת־בֵּ֥ית נִמְרָ֖ה וְאֶת־בֵּ֣ית הָרָ֑ן עָרֵ֥י מִבְצָ֖ר וְגִדְרֹ֥ת צֹֽאן׃

37
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubene֤y re'uben֙ bּan֔u 'et-cheshshebּ֖on ve'et-'ele'ale֑ ve'e֖t qireyataֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And the Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh and Kiriathaim,

וּבְנֵ֤י רְאוּבֵן֙ בָּנ֔וּ אֶת־חֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן וְאֶת־אֶלְעָלֵ֑א וְאֵ֖ת קִרְיָתָֽיִם׃

38
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-neb֞o ve'et-bּa֧'al me'֛on mֽusabּo֥t shshe֖m ve'et-shsibema֑h vayּiqere'֣u beshshemo֔t 'et-shshem֥ot he'ari֖ym 'ashshe֥r bּanֽu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)as well as Nebo and Baal Meon (these names were changed) and Sibmah. They gave names to the cities they rebuilt.

וְאֶת־נְב֞וֹ וְאֶת־בַּ֧עַל מְע֛וֹן מֽוּסַבֹּ֥ת שֵׁ֖ם וְאֶת־שִׂבְמָ֑ה וַיִּקְרְא֣וּ בְשֵׁמֹ֔ת אֶת־שְׁמ֥וֹת הֶעָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנֽוּ׃

39
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֨lek֜u bּene֨y maki֧yr bּen-menashshּe֛h gּile'a֖dah vaֽyּilekּedu֑ha vayּ֖oreshsh 'et-ha'emori֥y 'ashsher-bּaֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The descendants of Makir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, captured it and drove out the Amorites who were there.

וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ בְּנֵ֨י מָכִ֧יר בֶּן־מְנַשֶּׁ֛ה גִּלְעָ֖דָה וַֽיִּלְכְּדֻ֑הָ וַיּ֖וֹרֶשׁ אֶת־הָאֱמֹרִ֥י אֲשֶׁר־בָּֽהּ׃

40
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitּe֤n moshsheh֙ 'et-hagּile'a֔d lemaki֖yr bּen-menashshּe֑h vayּe֖shsheb bּaֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Moses gave Gilead to the Makirites, the descendants of Manasseh, and they settled there.

וַיִּתֵּ֤ן מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶת־הַגִּלְעָ֔ד לְמָכִ֖יר בֶּן־מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב בָּֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veya'i֤yr bּen-menashshּeh֙ hala֔ke vayּilekּo֖d 'et-chauoteyhe֑m vayּiqera֥ 'etehe֖n chauo֥t ya'iֽyr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, captured their settlements and called them Havvoth Jair.

וְיָאִ֤יר בֶּן־מְנַשֶּׁה֙ הָלַ֔ךְ וַיִּלְכֹּ֖ד אֶת־חַוֺּתֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶתְהֶ֖ן חַוֺּ֥ת יָאִֽיר׃

42
Phonetic (Hebrew): veno֣bach hala֔ke vayּilekּo֥d 'et-qena֖t ve'et-bּenote֑yha vayּiqera֧ la֦h no֖bach bּishshemֽo׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)And Nobah captured Kenath and its surrounding settlements and called it Nobah after himself.

וְנֹ֣בַח הָלַ֔ךְ וַיִּלְכֹּ֥ד אֶת־קְנָ֖ת וְאֶת־בְּנֹתֶ֑יהָ וַיִּקְרָ֧א לָ֦ה נֹ֖בַח בִּשְׁמֽוֹ׃פ
