Chapter 34

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֥r yehva֖h 'el-moshshe֥h lּe'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD said to Moses,

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): tza֞v 'et-bּene֤y yishsera'el֙ ve'amaretּa֣ 'alehe֔m kּiֽy-'atּe֥m bּa'i֖ym 'el-ha'a֣retz kּena֑'an zo֣'t ha'a֗retz 'ashshe֨r tּipּo֤l lakem֙ bּeֽnachala֔h 'e֥retz kּena֖'an ligebuloteֽyha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Command the Israelites and say to them: 'When you enter Canaan, the land that will be allotted to you as an inheritance is to have these boundaries:

צַ֞ו אֶת־בְּנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵהֶ֔ם כִּֽי־אַתֶּ֥ם בָּאִ֖ים אֶל־הָאָ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן זֹ֣את הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּפֹּ֤ל לָכֶם֙ בְּֽנַחֲלָ֔ה אֶ֥רֶץ כְּנַ֖עַן לִגְבֻלֹתֶֽיהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֨h lake֧m pּe'at-ne֛geb mimּidebּar-tzi֖n 'al-yede֣y 'ed֑om vehaya֤h lakem֙ gּeb֣ul ne֔geb miqetze֥h yam-hamּe֖lach qeֽdemah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)" 'Your southern side will include some of the Desert of Zin along the border of Edom. Your southern boundary will start in the east from the southern end of the Dead Sea,

וְהָיָ֨ה לָכֶ֧ם פְּאַת־נֶ֛גֶב מִמִּדְבַּר־צִ֖ן עַל־יְדֵ֣י אֱד֑וֹם וְהָיָ֤ה לָכֶם֙ גְּב֣וּל נֶ֔גֶב מִקְצֵ֥ה יָם־הַמֶּ֖לַח קֵֽדְמָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): venasa֣b lakem֩ hagּeb֨ul minּe֜geb lema'ale֤h 'aqerabּiym֙ ve'a֣bar tzi֔nah vhyh vehayu֙ tּֽotze'ota֔yv minּe֖geb leqade֣shsh bּarene֑'a veyatza֥ chatzar-'adּa֖r ve'aba֥r 'atzemoֽnah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)cross south of Scorpion Pass, continue on to Zin and go south of Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and over to Azmon,

וְנָסַ֣ב לָכֶם֩ הַגְּב֨וּל מִנֶּ֜גֶב לְמַעֲלֵ֤ה עַקְרַבִּים֙ וְעָ֣בַר צִ֔נָה והיה וְהָיוּ֙ תּֽוֹצְאֹתָ֔יו מִנֶּ֖גֶב לְקָדֵ֣שׁ בַּרְנֵ֑עַ וְיָצָ֥א חֲצַר־אַדָּ֖ר וְעָבַ֥ר עַצְמֹֽנָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): venasa֧b hagּeb֛ul me'atzem֖on na֣chelah mitzera֑yim vehay֥u totze'ota֖yv hayּaֽmּah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)where it will turn, join the Wadi of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea.

וְנָסַ֧ב הַגְּב֛וּל מֵעַצְמ֖וֹן נַ֣חְלָה מִצְרָ֑יִם וְהָי֥וּ תוֹצְאֹתָ֖יו הַיָּֽמָּה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ugeb֣ul ya֔m vehaya֥h lake֛m hayּa֥m hagּad֖ol ugeb֑ul zeֽh-yiheye֥h lake֖m gּeb֥ul yaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)" 'For your western boundary, you shall have the great sea and its border. This shall be your west border.

וּגְב֣וּל יָ֔ם וְהָיָ֥ה לָכֶ֛ם הַיָּ֥ם הַגָּד֖וֹל וּגְב֑וּל זֶֽה־יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם גְּב֥וּל יָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vezeֽh-yiheye֥h lake֖m gּeb֣ul tzap֑on min-hayּam֙ hagּado֔l tּeta'֥u lake֖m ho֥r hahaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)" 'For your northern boundary, run a line from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor

וְזֶֽה־יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם גְּב֣וּל צָפ֑וֹן מִן־הַיָּם֙ הַגָּדֹ֔ל תְּתָא֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם הֹ֥ר הָהָֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): meho֣r haha֔r tּeta'֖u lebo֣ chama֑t vehay֛u tּotze'o֥t hagּebu֖l tzedaֽdah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)and from Mount Hor to Lebo Hamath. Then the boundary will go to Zedad,

מֵהֹ֣ר הָהָ֔ר תְּתָא֖וּ לְבֹ֣א חֲמָ֑ת וְהָי֛וּ תּוֹצְאֹ֥ת הַגְּבֻ֖ל צְדָֽדָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyatza֤ hagּebul֙ zipero֔nah vehay֥u totze'ota֖yv chatza֣r 'eyna֑n zeֽh-yiheye֥h lake֖m gּeb֥ul tzapֽon׃

Edified Edition (EDE)continue to Ziphron and end at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary on the north.

וְיָצָ֤א הַגְּבֻל֙ זִפְרֹ֔נָה וְהָי֥וּ תוֹצְאֹתָ֖יו חֲצַ֣ר עֵינָ֑ן זֶֽה־יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם גְּב֥וּל צָפֽוֹן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehite'auiyte֥m lake֖m ligeb֣ul qe֑demah mechatza֥r 'eyna֖n shshepaֽmah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)" 'For your eastern boundary, run a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham.

וְהִתְאַוִּיתֶ֥ם לָכֶ֖ם לִגְב֣וּל קֵ֑דְמָה מֵחֲצַ֥ר עֵינָ֖ן שְׁפָֽמָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyara֨d hagּebu֧l mishshּepa֛m haribela֖h miqּe֣dem la'a֑yin veyara֣d hagּeb֔ul umacha֛h 'al-kּe֥tep yam-kּinּe֖ret qeֽdemah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain and continue along the slopes east of the Sea of Galilee.

וְיָרַ֨ד הַגְּבֻ֧ל מִשְּׁפָ֛ם הָרִבְלָ֖ה מִקֶּ֣דֶם לָעָ֑יִן וְיָרַ֣ד הַגְּב֔וּל וּמָחָ֛ה עַל־כֶּ֥תֶף יָם־כִּנֶּ֖רֶת קֵֽדְמָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyara֤d hagּebul֙ hayּaredּe֔nah vehay֥u totze'ota֖yv ya֣m hamּe֑lach zo't֩ tּiheye֨h lake֥m ha'a֛retz ligebulote֖yha sabiֽyb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The boundary will go down along the Jordan and end at the Dead Sea. This will be your land, with its boundaries on every side.' "

וְיָרַ֤ד הַגְּבוּל֙ הַיַּרְדֵּ֔נָה וְהָי֥וּ תוֹצְאֹתָ֖יו יָ֣ם הַמֶּ֑לַח זֹאת֩ תִּהְיֶ֨ה לָכֶ֥ם הָאָ֛רֶץ לִגְבֻלֹתֶ֖יהָ סָבִֽיב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayetza֣v moshshe֔h 'et-bּene֥y yishsera'e֖l le'mo֑r zo֣'t ha'a֗retz 'ashshe֨r tּitenachal֤u 'otahּ֙ bּegora֔l 'ashsher֙ tziua֣h yehva֔h late֛t letishshe'a֥t hamּatּ֖ot vachatzi֥y hamּatּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Moses commanded the Israelites: "Assign this land by lot as an inheritance. the LORD has ordered that it be given to the nine and a half tribes,

וַיְצַ֣ו מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֶת־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר זֹ֣את הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּתְנַחֲל֤וּ אֹתָהּ֙ בְּגוֹרָ֔ל אֲשֶׁר֙ צִוָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה לָתֵ֛ת לְתִשְׁעַ֥ת הַמַּטּ֖וֹת וַחֲצִ֥י הַמַּטֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y laqech֞u matּe֨h bene֤y har'ubeniy֙ lebe֣yt 'abota֔m umatּe֥h beneֽy-hagּadi֖y lebe֣yt 'abota֑m vachatziy֙ matּe֣h menashshּe֔h laqech֖u nachalataֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)because the families of the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance.

כִּ֣י לָקְח֞וּ מַטֵּ֨ה בְנֵ֤י הָראוּבֵנִי֙ לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֔ם וּמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־הַגָּדִ֖י לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם וַחֲצִי֙ מַטֵּ֣ה מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה לָקְח֖וּ נַחֲלָתָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshene֥y hamּatּ֖ot vachatzi֣y hamּatּe֑h laqech֣u nachalata֗m me'e֛ber leyaredּe֥n yerech֖o qe֥demah mizeraֽchah׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)These two and a half tribes have received their inheritance east of the Jordan across from Jericho, toward the sunrise."

שְׁנֵ֥י הַמַּטּ֖וֹת וַחֲצִ֣י הַמַּטֶּ֑ה לָקְח֣וּ נַחֲלָתָ֗ם מֵעֵ֛בֶר לְיַרְדֵּ֥ן יְרֵח֖וֹ קֵ֥דְמָה מִזְרָֽחָה׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֥r yehva֖h 'el-moshshe֥h lּe'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD said to Moses,

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֚lּeh shshem֣ot haֽ'anashshi֔ym 'ashsher-yinechal֥u lake֖m 'et-ha'a֑retz 'ele'azar֙ hakּohe֔n viyhoshshu֖'a bּin-nֽun׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"These are the names of the men who are to assign the land for you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.

אֵ֚לֶּה שְׁמ֣וֹת הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־יִנְחֲל֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם אֶת־הָאָ֑רֶץ אֶלְעָזָר֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וִיהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ בִּן־נֽוּן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): venashsi֥y 'echa֛d nashsi֥y 'echa֖d mimּatּe֑h tּiqech֖u linecho֥l 'et-ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And appoint one leader from each tribe to help assign the land.

וְנָשִׂ֥יא אֶחָ֛ד נָשִׂ֥יא אֶחָ֖ד מִמַּטֶּ֑ה תִּקְח֖וּ לִנְחֹ֥ל אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'e֖lּeh shshem֣ot ha'anashshi֑ym lematּe֣h yehuda֔h kּale֖b bּen-yepunּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)These are their names: Caleb son of Jephunneh, from the tribe of Judah;

וְאֵ֖לֶּה שְׁמ֣וֹת הָאֲנָשִׁ֑ים לְמַטֵּ֣ה יְהוּדָ֔ה כָּלֵ֖ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ulematּeh֙ bּene֣y shshime'֔on shshemu'e֖l bּen-'amּiyhֽud׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Shemuel son of Ammihud, from the tribe of Simeon;

וּלְמַטֵּה֙ בְּנֵ֣י שִׁמְע֔וֹן שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל בֶּן־עַמִּיהֽוּד׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lematּe֣h bineyami֔n 'eliyda֖d bּen-kּiselֽon׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Elidad son of Kislon, from the tribe of Benjamin;

לְמַטֵּ֣ה בִנְיָמִ֔ן אֱלִידָ֖ד בֶּן־כִּסְלֽוֹן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ulematּe֥h beney-da֖n nashsi֑y bּuqּi֖y bּen-yageliֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Bukki son of Jogli, the leader from the tribe of Dan;

וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵי־דָ֖ן נָשִׂ֑יא בֻּקִּ֖י בֶּן־יָגְלִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): libene֣y yose֔p lematּe֥h beneֽy-menashshּe֖h nashsi֑y chanּiy'e֖l bּen-'epoֽd׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Hanniel son of Ephod, the leader from the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph;

לִבְנֵ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף לְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־מְנַשֶּׁ֖ה נָשִׂ֑יא חַנִּיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־אֵפֹֽד׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ulematּe֥h beneֽy-'epera֖yim nashsi֑y qemu'e֖l bּen-shshipetaֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Kemuel son of Shiphtan, the leader from the tribe of Ephraim son of Joseph;

וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־אֶפְרַ֖יִם נָשִׂ֑יא קְמוּאֵ֖ל בֶּן־שִׁפְטָֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ulematּe֥h beneֽy-zebulu֖n nashsi֑y 'eliytzapa֖n bּen-pּarenaֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Elizaphan son of Parnak, the leader from the tribe of Zebulun;

וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־זְבוּלֻ֖ן נָשִׂ֑יא אֱלִיצָפָ֖ן בֶּן־פַּרְנָֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ulematּe֥h beneֽy-yishsashka֖r nashsi֑y pּaletiy'e֖l bּen-'azּaֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Paltiel son of Azzan, the leader from the tribe of Issachar;

וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־יִשָׂשכָ֖ר נָשִׂ֑יא פַּלְטִיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־עַזָּֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ulematּe֥h beney-'ashshe֖r nashsi֑y 'achiyh֖ud bּen-shshelomiֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Ahihud son of Shelomi, the leader from the tribe of Asher;

וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵי־אָשֵׁ֖ר נָשִׂ֑יא אֲחִיה֖וּד בֶּן־שְׁלֹמִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ulematּe֥h beneֽy-napetּali֖y nashsi֑y pּedahe'e֖l bּen-'amּiyhֽud׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Pedahel son of Ammihud, the leader from the tribe of Naphtali."

וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־נַפְתָּלִ֖י נָשִׂ֑יא פְּדַהְאֵ֖ל בֶּן־עַמִּיהֽוּד׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֕lּeh 'ashshe֖r tziua֣h yehva֑h lenache֥l 'et-bּeneֽy-yishsera'e֖l bּe'e֥retz kּenaֽ'an׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)These are the men the LORD commanded to assign the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan.

אֵ֕לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֖ר צִוָּ֣ה יְהוָ֑ה לְנַחֵ֥ל אֶת־בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃פ
