1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֧r yehva֛h 'el-moshshe֖h bּe'aֽrebo֣t mo'a֑b 'al-yaredּe֥n yerech֖o le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)On the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho, the LORD said to Moses,

וַיְדַבֵּ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֖ה בְּעַֽרְבֹ֣ת מוֹאָ֑ב עַל־יַרְדֵּ֥ן יְרֵח֖וֹ לֵאמֹֽר׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): tzav֮ 'et-bּene֣y yishsera'el֒ venaten֣u laleviyּi֗m miֽnּachala֛t 'achuzּata֖m 'ari֣ym lashsha֑bet umigera֗shsh leֽ'ariym֙ sebiybo֣teyhe֔m tּitּen֖u laleviyּiֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Command the Israelites to give the Levites towns to live in from the inheritance the Israelites will possess. And give them pasture-lands around the towns.

צַו֮ אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וְנָתְנ֣וּ לַלְוִיִּ֗ם מִֽנַּחֲלַ֛ת אֲחֻזָּתָ֖ם עָרִ֣ים לָשָׁ֑בֶת וּמִגְרָ֗שׁ לֶֽעָרִים֙ סְבִיבֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם תִּתְּנ֖וּ לַלְוִיִּֽם׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehay֧u hֽe'ari֛ym lahe֖m lashsha֑bet umigereshsheyhe֗m yihey֤u libehemetּam֙ velirekushsha֔m uleko֖l chayּataֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then they will have towns in which to live and pasture-lands for the wild animals and all their other livestock.

וְהָי֧וּ הֶֽעָרִ֛ים לָהֶ֖ם לָשָׁ֑בֶת וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶ֗ם יִהְי֤וּ לִבְהֶמְתָּם֙ וְלִרְכֻשָׁ֔ם וּלְכֹ֖ל חַיָּתָֽם׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): umigereshshey֙ heֽ'ari֔ym 'ashshe֥r tּitּen֖u laleviyּi֑m miqּi֤yr ha'iyr֙ vach֔utzah 'e֥lep 'amּa֖h sabiֽyb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"The pasture-lands around the towns that you give the Levites will extend a thousand cubits from the town wall.

וּמִגְרְשֵׁי֙ הֶֽעָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר תִּתְּנ֖וּ לַלְוִיִּ֑ם מִקִּ֤יר הָעִיר֙ וָח֔וּצָה אֶ֥לֶף אַמָּ֖ה סָבִֽיב׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): umadּote֞m mich֣utz la'i֗yr 'et-pּe'at-qe֣demah 'alepּa֪yim bּaֽ'amּa֟h ve'et-pּe'at-negeb֩ 'alepּa֨yim bּa'amּa֜h ve'et-pּe'at-ya֣m ׀ 'alepּa֣yim bּaֽ'amּa֗h ve'e֨t pּe'a֥t tzap֛on 'alepּa֥yim bּa'amּa֖h veha'i֣yr bּatּa֑veke ze֚h yiheye֣h lahe֔m migereshshe֖y he'ariֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Outside the town, measure two thousand cubits on the east side, two thousand on the south side, two thousand on the west and two thousand on the north, with the town in the centre. They will have this area as pasture-land for the towns.

וּמַדֹּתֶ֞ם מִח֣וּץ לָעִ֗יר אֶת־פְּאַת־קֵ֣דְמָה אַלְפַּ֪יִם בָּֽאַמָּ֟ה וְאֶת־פְּאַת־נֶגֶב֩ אַלְפַּ֨יִם בָּאַמָּ֜ה וְאֶת־פְּאַת־יָ֣ם ׀ אַלְפַּ֣יִם בָּֽאַמָּ֗ה וְאֵ֨ת פְּאַ֥ת צָפ֛וֹן אַלְפַּ֥יִם בָּאַמָּ֖ה וְהָעִ֣יר בַּתָּ֑וֶךְ זֶ֚ה יִהְיֶ֣ה לָהֶ֔ם מִגְרְשֵׁ֖י הֶעָרִֽים׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'e֣t heֽ'ari֗ym 'ashshe֤r tּitּenu֙ laleviyּi֔m 'e֚t shsheshsh-'are֣y hamּiqela֔t 'ashshe֣r tּitּen֔u lanu֥s shsha֖mּah harotze֑cha va'aleyhe֣m tּitּen֔u 'arebּa'i֥ym ushshetּa֖yim 'iֽyr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone may flee. In addition, give them forty-two other towns.

וְאֵ֣ת הֶֽעָרִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר תִּתְּנוּ֙ לַלְוִיִּ֔ם אֵ֚ת שֵׁשׁ־עָרֵ֣י הַמִּקְלָ֔ט אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּתְּנ֔וּ לָנֻ֥ס שָׁ֖מָּה הָרֹצֵ֑חַ וַעֲלֵיהֶ֣ם תִּתְּנ֔וּ אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁתַּ֖יִם עִֽיר׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-he'ari֗ym 'ashshe֤r tּitּenu֙ laleviyּi֔m 'arebּa'i֥ym ushshemone֖h 'i֑yr 'etehe֖n ve'et-migereshsheyheֽn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In all you must give the Levites forty-eight towns, together with their pasture-lands.

כָּל־הֶעָרִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר תִּתְּנוּ֙ לַלְוִיִּ֔ם אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנֶ֖ה עִ֑יר אֶתְהֶ֖ן וְאֶת־מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽן׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): veheֽ'ari֗ym 'ashshe֤r tּitּenu֙ me'achuzּa֣t bּeney-yishsera'e֔l me'e֤t harab֙ tּarebּ֔u ume'e֥t hame'a֖t tּame'i֑ytu 'i֗yshsh kּepi֤y nachalato֙ 'ashshe֣r yinecha֔lu yitּe֥n me'ara֖yv laleviyּiֽm׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)The towns you give the Levites from the land the Israelites possess are to be given in proportion to the inheritance of each tribe: Take many towns from a tribe that has many, but few from one that has few."

וְהֶֽעָרִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר תִּתְּנוּ֙ מֵאֲחֻזַּ֣ת בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מֵאֵ֤ת הָרַב֙ תַּרְבּ֔וּ וּמֵאֵ֥ת הַמְעַ֖ט תַּמְעִ֑יטוּ אִ֗ישׁ כְּפִ֤י נַחֲלָתוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִנְחָ֔לוּ יִתֵּ֥ן מֵעָרָ֖יו לַלְוִיִּֽם׃פ

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֥r yehva֖h 'el-moshshe֥h lּe'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD said to Moses:

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): dּabּer֙ 'el-bּene֣y yishsera'e֔l ve'amaretּa֖ 'alehe֑m kּi֥y 'atּe֛m 'oberi֥ym 'et-hayּaredּe֖n 'a֥retzah kּenaֽ'an׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When you cross the Jordan into Canaan,

דַּבֵּר֙ אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאָמַרְתָּ֖ אֲלֵהֶ֑ם כִּ֥י אַתֶּ֛ם עֹבְרִ֥ים אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן אַ֥רְצָה כְּנָֽעַן׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehiqeriyte֤m lakem֙ 'ari֔ym 'are֥y miqela֖t tּiheye֣ynah lake֑m vena֥s shsha֨mּah֙ rotze֔cha makּeh-ne֖peshsh bּishshegagaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)select some towns to be your cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone accidentally may flee.

וְהִקְרִיתֶ֤ם לָכֶם֙ עָרִ֔ים עָרֵ֥י מִקְלָ֖ט תִּהְיֶ֣ינָה לָכֶ֑ם וְנָ֥ס שָׁ֨מָּה֙ רֹצֵ֔חַ מַכֵּה־נֶ֖פֶשׁ בִּשְׁגָגָֽה׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehay֨u lake֧m he'ari֛ym lemiqela֖t migּo'e֑l velo֤ yamut֙ harotze֔cha 'ad-'amed֛o lipene֥y ha'eda֖h lamּishshepּaֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They will be places of refuge from the avenger, so that anyone accused of murder may not die before they stand trial before the assembly.

וְהָי֨וּ לָכֶ֧ם הֶעָרִ֛ים לְמִקְלָ֖ט מִגֹּאֵ֑ל וְלֹ֤א יָמוּת֙ הָרֹצֵ֔חַ עַד־עָמְד֛וֹ לִפְנֵ֥י הָעֵדָ֖ה לַמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehe'ari֖ym 'ashshe֣r tּitּe֑nu shsheshsh-'are֥y miqela֖t tּiheye֥ynah lakeֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)These six towns you give will be your cities of refuge.

וְהֶעָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּתֵּ֑נוּ שֵׁשׁ־עָרֵ֥י מִקְלָ֖ט תִּהְיֶ֥ינָה לָכֶֽם׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): e֣t ׀ shshelo֣shsh he'ari֗ym tּitּenu֙ me'e֣ber layּaredּe֔n ve'et֙ shshelo֣shsh heֽ'ari֔ym tּitּen֖u bּe'e֣retz kּena֑'an 'are֥y miqela֖t tּiheyeֽynah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Give three on this side of the Jordan and three in Canaan as cities of refuge.

אֵ֣ת ׀ שְׁלֹ֣שׁ הֶעָרִ֗ים תִּתְּנוּ֙ מֵעֵ֣בֶר לַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן וְאֵת֙ שְׁלֹ֣שׁ הֶֽעָרִ֔ים תִּתְּנ֖וּ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן עָרֵ֥י מִקְלָ֖ט תִּהְיֶֽינָה׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): libene֣y yishsera'e֗l velagּe֤r velatּoshshab֙ bּetoka֔m tּiheye֛ynah shsheshsh-he'ari֥ym ha'e֖lּeh lemiqela֑t lan֣us shsha֔mּah kּal-makּeh-ne֖peshsh bּishshegagaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)These six cities will be a place of refuge for Israelites and for foreigners residing among them, so that anyone who has killed another accidentally can flee there.

לִבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְלַגֵּ֤ר וְלַתּוֹשָׁב֙ בְּתוֹכָ֔ם תִּהְיֶ֛ינָה שֵׁשׁ־הֶעָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה לְמִקְלָ֑ט לָנ֣וּס שָׁ֔מָּה כָּל־מַכֵּה־נֶ֖פֶשׁ בִּשְׁגָגָֽה׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'im-bּikeli֨y bareze֧l ׀ hikּa֛hu vayּamo֖t rotze֣chaֽ h֑u m֥ot yuma֖t harotzeֽcha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)" 'If anyone strikes someone a fatal blow with an iron object, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death.

וְאִם־בִּכְלִ֨י בַרְזֶ֧ל ׀ הִכָּ֛הוּ וַיָּמֹ֖ת רֹצֵ֣חַֽ ה֑וּא מ֥וֹת יוּמַ֖ת הָרֹצֵֽחַ׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'i֡m bּe'e֣ben yad֩ 'ashsher-yam֨ut bּa֥hּ hikּa֛hu vayּamo֖t rotze֣chaֽ h֑u m֥ot yuma֖t harotzeֽcha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Or if anyone is holding a stone and strikes someone a fatal blow, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death.

וְאִ֡ם בְּאֶ֣בֶן יָד֩ אֲשֶׁר־יָמ֨וּת בָּ֥הּ הִכָּ֛הוּ וַיָּמֹ֖ת רֹצֵ֣חַֽ ה֑וּא מ֥וֹת יוּמַ֖ת הָרֹצֵֽחַ׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): ֡o bּikeli֣y 'eֽtz-yad֩ 'ashsher-yam֨ut bּ֥o hikּa֛hu vayּamo֖t rotze֣chaֽ h֑u m֥ot yuma֖t harotzeֽcha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Or if anyone is holding a wooden object and strikes someone a fatal blow, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death.

א֡וֹ בִּכְלִ֣י עֵֽץ־יָד֩ אֲשֶׁר־יָמ֨וּת בּ֥וֹ הִכָּ֛הוּ וַיָּמֹ֖ת רֹצֵ֣חַֽ ה֑וּא מ֥וֹת יוּמַ֖ת הָרֹצֵֽחַ׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): gּo'e֣l hadּa֔m h֥u yami֖yt 'et-harotze֑cha bּepige'o-b֖o h֥u yemiyteֽnּu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death; when they meet, the avenger shall kill him.

גֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּ֔ם ה֥וּא יָמִ֖ית אֶת־הָרֹצֵ֑חַ בְּפִגְעוֹ־ב֖וֹ ה֥וּא יְמִיתֶֽנּוּ׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'im-bּeshsine'a֖h yehedּape֑nּu 'ֽo-hishsheli֥yke 'ala֛yv bּitzediyּa֖h vayּamoֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)If anyone with malice aforethought shoves another or throws something at them intentionally so that they die,

וְאִם־בְּשִׂנְאָ֖ה יֶהְדָּפֶ֑נּוּ אֽוֹ־הִשְׁלִ֥יךְ עָלָ֛יו בִּצְדִיָּ֖ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): ֣o be'eyba֞h hikּa֤hu beyado֙ vayּamo֔t mֽot-yuma֥t hamּakּe֖h rotze֣chaֽ h֑u gּo'e֣l hadּa֗m yami֛yt 'et-harotze֖cha bּepige'o-bֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)or if out of enmity one person hits another with their fist so that they die, that person is to be put to death; they are a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when they meet.

א֣וֹ בְאֵיבָ֞ה הִכָּ֤הוּ בְיָדוֹ֙ וַיָּמֹ֔ת מֽוֹת־יוּמַ֥ת הַמַּכֶּ֖ה רֹצֵ֣חַֽ ה֑וּא גֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּ֗ם יָמִ֛ית אֶת־הָרֹצֵ֖חַ בְּפִגְעוֹ־בֽוֹ׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'im-bּepe֥ta bּelo'-'eyba֖h hadap֑o 'o-hishsheli֥yke 'ala֛yv kּal-kּeli֖y bּelo֥ tzediyּaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)" 'But if without enmity someone suddenly shoves another or throws something at them unintentionally

וְאִם־בְּפֶ֥תַע בְּלֹא־אֵיבָ֖ה הֲדָפ֑וֹ אוֹ־הִשְׁלִ֥יךְ עָלָ֛יו כָּל־כְּלִ֖י בְּלֹ֥א צְדִיָּֽה׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): ֣o bekal-'e֜ben 'ashsher-yam֥ut bּahּ֙ bּelo֣ re'֔ot vayּapּe֥l 'ala֖yv vayּamo֑t vehu'֙ lo'-'oye֣b l֔o velo֥ mebaqּe֖shsh ra'atֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)or, without seeing them, drops on them a stone heavy enough to kill them, and they die, then since that person was not an enemy and had no intention to harm them,

א֣וֹ בְכָל־אֶ֜בֶן אֲשֶׁר־יָמ֥וּת בָּהּ֙ בְּלֹ֣א רְא֔וֹת וַיַּפֵּ֥ל עָלָ֖יו וַיָּמֹ֑ת וְהוּא֙ לֹא־אוֹיֵ֣ב ל֔וֹ וְלֹ֥א מְבַקֵּ֖שׁ רָעָתֽוֹ׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshaֽpetu֙ haֽ'eda֔h bּe֚yn hamּakּe֔h ube֖yn gּo'e֣l hadּa֑m 'a֥l hamּishshepּati֖ym ha'eֽlּeh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)the assembly must judge between the accused and the avenger of blood according to these regulations.

וְשָֽׁפְטוּ֙ הָֽעֵדָ֔ה בֵּ֚ין הַמַּכֶּ֔ה וּבֵ֖ין גֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּ֑ם עַ֥ל הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehitzּi֨ylu ha'eda֜h 'et-harotze֗cha miyּad֮ gּo'e֣l hadּam֒ veheshshi֤ybu 'oto֙ haֽ'eda֔h 'el-'i֥yr miqelat֖o 'ashsher-na֣s shsha֑mּah veya֣shshab bּa֗hּ 'ad-mot֙ hakּohe֣n hagּado֔l 'ashsher-mashsha֥ch 'ot֖o bּeshshe֥men haqּoֽdeshsh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The assembly must protect the one accused of murder from the avenger of blood and send the accused back to the city of refuge to which they fled. The accused must stay there until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.

וְהִצִּ֨ילוּ הָעֵדָ֜ה אֶת־הָרֹצֵ֗חַ מִיַּד֮ גֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּם֒ וְהֵשִׁ֤יבוּ אֹתוֹ֙ הָֽעֵדָ֔ה אֶל־עִ֥יר מִקְלָט֖וֹ אֲשֶׁר־נָ֣ס שָׁ֑מָּה וְיָ֣שַׁב בָּ֗הּ עַד־מוֹת֙ הַכֹּהֵ֣ן הַגָּדֹ֔ל אֲשֶׁר־מָשַׁ֥ח אֹת֖וֹ בְּשֶׁ֥מֶן הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'im-yatzo֥ yetze֖ harotze֑cha 'et-gּebul֙ 'i֣yr miqelat֔o 'ashshe֥r yan֖us shshaֽmּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)" 'But if the accused ever goes outside the limits of the city of refuge to which they fled

וְאִם־יָצֹ֥א יֵצֵ֖א הָרֹצֵ֑חַ אֶת־גְּבוּל֙ עִ֣יר מִקְלָט֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָנ֖וּס שָֽׁמָּה׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): umatza֤ 'oto֙ gּo'e֣l hadּa֔m mich֕utz ligeb֖ul 'i֣yr miqelat֑o veratza֞ch gּo'e֤l hadּam֙ 'et-ha֣rotze֔cha 'e֥yn l֖o dּaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)and the avenger of blood finds them outside the city, the avenger of blood may kill the accused without being guilty of murder.

וּמָצָ֤א אֹתוֹ֙ גֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּ֔ם מִח֕וּץ לִגְב֖וּל עִ֣יר מִקְלָט֑וֹ וְרָצַ֞ח גֹּאֵ֤ל הַדָּם֙ אֶת־הָ֣רֹצֵ֔חַ אֵ֥ין ל֖וֹ דָּֽם׃

28
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y be'i֤yr miqelato֙ yeshshe֔b 'ad-m֖ot hakּohe֣n hagּado֑l ve'achare֥y mot֙ hakּohe֣n hagּado֔l yashshub֙ harotze֔cha 'el-'e֖retz 'achuzּatֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The accused should have stayed in the city of refuge until the death of the high priest; only after the death of the high priest can they return to their own property.

כִּ֣י בְעִ֤יר מִקְלָטוֹ֙ יֵשֵׁ֔ב עַד־מ֖וֹת הַכֹּהֵ֣ן הַגָּדֹ֑ל וְאַחֲרֵ֥י מוֹת֙ הַכֹּהֵ֣ן הַגָּדֹ֔ל יָשׁוּב֙ הָרֹצֵ֔חַ אֶל־אֶ֖רֶץ אֲחֻזָּתֽוֹ׃

29
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehay֨u 'e֧lּeh lake֛m lechuqּa֥t mishshepּa֖t ledoroteyke֑m bּeko֖l moshsheboteykeֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)" 'This is to have the force of law for you throughout the generations to come, wherever you live.

וְהָי֨וּ אֵ֧לֶּה לָכֶ֛ם לְחֻקַּ֥ת מִשְׁפָּ֖ט לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶ֑ם בְּכֹ֖ל מוֹשְׁבֹתֵיכֶֽם׃

30
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-ma֨kּeh-ne֔peshsh lepi֣y 'edi֔ym yiretza֖ch 'et-harotze֑cha ve'e֣d 'echa֔d lo'-ya'ane֥h bene֖peshsh lamֽut׃
Edified Edition (EDE)" 'Anyone who kills a person is to be put to death as a murderer only on the testimony of witnesses. But no one is to be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.

כָּל־מַ֨כֵּה־נֶ֔פֶשׁ לְפִ֣י עֵדִ֔ים יִרְצַ֖ח אֶת־הָרֹצֵ֑חַ וְעֵ֣ד אֶחָ֔ד לֹא־יַעֲנֶ֥ה בְנֶ֖פֶשׁ לָמֽוּת׃

31
Phonetic (Hebrew): veloֽ'-tiqech֥u ko֨per֙ lene֣peshsh rotze֔cha 'ashsher-h֥u rashsha֖ lam֑ut kּiy-m֖ot yumaֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)" 'Do not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer, who deserves to die. They are certainly to be put to death.

וְלֹֽא־תִקְח֥וּ כֹ֨פֶר֙ לְנֶ֣פֶשׁ רֹצֵ֔חַ אֲשֶׁר־ה֥וּא רָשָׁ֖ע לָמ֑וּת כִּי־מ֖וֹת יוּמָֽת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): velo'-tiqech֣u ko֔per lan֖us 'el-'i֣yr miqelat֑o lashshub֙ lashshe֣bet bּa'a֔retz 'ad-m֖ot hakּoheֽn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)" 'Do not accept a ransom for anyone who has fled to a city of refuge and allow them to go back and live on their own land before the death of the high priest.

וְלֹא־תִקְח֣וּ כֹ֔פֶר לָנ֖וּס אֶל־עִ֣יר מִקְלָט֑וֹ לָשׁוּב֙ לָשֶׁ֣בֶת בָּאָ֔רֶץ עַד־מ֖וֹת הַכֹּהֵֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veloֽ'-tachani֣ypu 'et-ha'a֗retz 'ashshe֤r 'atּem֙ bּa֔hּ kּi֣y hadּa֔m h֥u yachani֖yp 'et-ha'a֑retz vela'a֣retz loֽ'-yekupּa֗r ladּam֙ 'ashshe֣r shshupּake-bּa֔hּ kּiy-'i֖m bּeda֥m shshopekֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)" 'Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land, and atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it.

וְלֹֽא־תַחֲנִ֣יפוּ אֶת־הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אַתֶּם֙ בָּ֔הּ כִּ֣י הַדָּ֔ם ה֥וּא יַחֲנִ֖יף אֶת־הָאָ֑רֶץ וְלָאָ֣רֶץ לֹֽא־יְכֻפַּ֗ר לַדָּם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שֻׁפַּךְ־בָּ֔הּ כִּי־אִ֖ם בְּדַ֥ם שֹׁפְכֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): velo֧ tetamּe֣ 'et-ha'a֗retz 'ashshe֤r 'atּem֙ yoshshebi֣ym bּa֔hּ 'ashshe֥r 'ani֖y shshoke֣n bּetoka֑hּ kּi֚y 'ani֣y yehva֔h shshoke֕n bּet֖oke bּene֥y yishsera'eֽl׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Do not defile the land where you live and where I dwell, for I, the LORD, dwell among the Israelites.' "

וְלֹ֧א תְטַמֵּ֣א אֶת־הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אַתֶּם֙ יֹשְׁבִ֣ים בָּ֔הּ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲנִ֖י שֹׁכֵ֣ן בְּתוֹכָ֑הּ כִּ֚י אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֔ה שֹׁכֵ֕ן בְּת֖וֹךְ בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃פ
