Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD said to Moses,

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): dּabּer֙ 'el-bּene֣y yishsera'e֔l ve'amaretּa֖ 'alehe֑m 'i֣yshsh 'ֽo-'ishshּa֗h kּi֤y yapeli'֙ linedּor֙ ne֣der nazi֔yr lehazּi֖yr laֽyhvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'If a man or woman wants to make a special vow, a vow of separation to the LORD as a Nazirite, [1]

דַּבֵּר֙ אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאָמַרְתָּ֖ אֲלֵהֶ֑ם אִ֣ישׁ אֽוֹ־אִשָּׁ֗ה כִּ֤י יַפְלִא֙ לִנְדֹּר֙ נֶ֣דֶר נָזִ֔יר לְהַזִּ֖יר לַֽיהוָֽה׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): miyּa֤yin veshshekar֙ yazּi֔yr cho֥metz ya֛yin vecho֥metz shsheka֖r lo֣ yishshetּe֑h vekal-mishshera֤t 'anabiym֙ lo֣ yishshetּe֔h va'anabi֛ym lachi֥ym viybeshshi֖ym lo֥ yo'keֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)they must abstain from wine and other fermented drink. They must not drink vinegar made from wine or other fermented drink, nor any grape juice, and they must not eat grapes or raisins.

מִיַּ֤יִן וְשֵׁכָר֙ יַזִּ֔יר חֹ֥מֶץ יַ֛יִן וְחֹ֥מֶץ שֵׁכָ֖ר לֹ֣א יִשְׁתֶּ֑ה וְכָל־מִשְׁרַ֤ת עֲנָבִים֙ לֹ֣א יִשְׁתֶּ֔ה וַעֲנָבִ֛ים לַחִ֥ים וִיבֵשִׁ֖ים לֹ֥א יֹאכֵֽל׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֖l yeme֣y nizer֑o mikּol֩ 'ashshe֨r ye'ashse֜h migּe֣pen hayּa֗yin mecharetzanּi֛ym ve'ad-za֖g lo֥ yo'keֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As long as they are under the Nazirite vow, they must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, from the seeds to the skins.

כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֣י נִזְר֑וֹ מִכֹּל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יֵעָשֶׂ֜ה מִגֶּ֣פֶן הַיַּ֗יִן מֵחַרְצַנִּ֛ים וְעַד־זָ֖ג לֹ֥א יֹאכֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-yemey֙ ne֣der nizer֔o tּa֖'ar lo'-ya'abo֣r 'al-ro'shsh֑o 'ad-melo֨'t hayּami֜m 'ashsher-yazּi֤yr layhvah֙ qado֣shsh yiheye֔h gּadּe֥l pּe֖ra shse'a֥r ro'shshֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)During the entire period of their Nazirite vow, no razor may be used on their head. They must stay holy until the time of their dedication to the LORD is over; they must let the hair on their head grow long.

כָּל־יְמֵי֙ נֶ֣דֶר נִזְר֔וֹ תַּ֖עַר לֹא־יַעֲבֹ֣ר עַל־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ עַד־מְלֹ֨את הַיָּמִ֜ם אֲשֶׁר־יַזִּ֤יר לַיהוָה֙ קָדֹ֣שׁ יִהְיֶ֔ה גַּדֵּ֥ל פֶּ֖רַע שְׂעַ֥ר רֹאשֽׁוֹ׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-yeme֥y hazּiyr֖o layhva֑h 'al-ne֥peshsh me֖t lo֥ yaboֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Throughout the period of their dedication to the LORD, they must not go near a dead body.

כָּל־יְמֵ֥י הַזִּיר֖וֹ לַיהוָ֑ה עַל־נֶ֥פֶשׁ מֵ֖ת לֹ֥א יָבֹֽא׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): le'abi֣yv ule'imּ֗o le'achiyv֙ ule'a֣chot֔o lo'-yitּamּa֥ lahe֖m bּemota֑m kּi֛y ne֥zer 'eloha֖yv 'al-ro'shshֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Even if their own father or mother, brother or sister dies, they must not make themselves ceremonially unclean, because the sign of their dedication to God is on their head.

לְאָבִ֣יו וּלְאִמּ֗וֹ לְאָחִיו֙ וּלְאַ֣חֹת֔וֹ לֹא־יִטַּמָּ֥א לָהֶ֖ם בְּמֹתָ֑ם כִּ֛י נֵ֥זֶר אֱלֹהָ֖יו עַל־רֹאשֽׁוֹ׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֖l yeme֣y nizer֑o qado֥shsh h֖u laֽyhvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Throughout the period of their dedication, they are holy to the LORD.

כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֣י נִזְר֑וֹ קָדֹ֥שׁ ה֖וּא לַֽיהוָֽה׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vekiֽy-yam֨ut me֤t 'alayv֙ bּepe֣ta pּite'o֔m vetimּe֖ ro֣'shsh nizer֑o vegilּa֤ch ro'shsho֙ bּey֣om tahorat֔o bּayּ֥om hashshּebiy'i֖y yegalּecheֽnּu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)If someone dies suddenly in their presence, thus defiling their dedicated head of hair, they must shave their head on the day of their cleansing, the seventh day.

וְכִֽי־יָמ֨וּת מֵ֤ת עָלָיו֙ בְּפֶ֣תַע פִּתְאֹ֔ם וְטִמֵּ֖א רֹ֣אשׁ נִזְר֑וֹ וְגִלַּ֤ח רֹאשׁוֹ֙ בְּי֣וֹם טָהֳרָת֔וֹ בַּיּ֥וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֖י יְגַלְּחֶֽנּוּ׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubayּ֣om hashshּemiyni֗y yabi'֙ shshetּe֣y tori֔ym '֥o shshene֖y bּene֣y yona֑h 'el-hakּohe֔n 'el-pּe֖tach 'o֥hel mo'eֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)On the eighth day they must bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

וּבַיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁמִינִ֗י יָבִא֙ שְׁתֵּ֣י תֹרִ֔ים א֥וֹ שְׁנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֣י יוֹנָ֑ה אֶל־הַכֹּהֵ֔ן אֶל־פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ashsa֣h hakּohe֗n 'echa֤d lechatּa't֙ ve'echa֣d le'ola֔h vekipּe֣r 'ala֔yv me'ashshe֥r chata֖ 'al-hanּa֑peshsh veqidּa֥shsh 'et-ro'shsh֖o bּayּ֥om hahֽu'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The priest is to offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to make atonement for them because they sinned by being near the dead body. That same day they must re-consecrate their head.

וְעָשָׂ֣ה הַכֹּהֵ֗ן אֶחָ֤ד לְחַטָּאת֙ וְאֶחָ֣ד לְעֹלָ֔ה וְכִפֶּ֣ר עָלָ֔יו מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר חָטָ֖א עַל־הַנָּ֑פֶשׁ וְקִדַּ֥שׁ אֶת־רֹאשׁ֖וֹ בַּיּ֥וֹם הַהֽוּא׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehizּi֤yr laֽyhvah֙ 'et-yeme֣y nizer֔o vehebi֛y kּe֥beshs bּen-shshenat֖o le'ashsha֑m vehayּami֤ym hari'shshoniym֙ yipּel֔u kּi֥y tame֖ nizerֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They must rededicate themselves to the LORD for the period of their vow and bring a year-old male lamb as a guilt offering. The previous days do not count, because their original dedication was defiled.

וְהִזִּ֤יר לַֽיהוָה֙ אֶת־יְמֵ֣י נִזְר֔וֹ וְהֵבִ֛יא כֶּ֥בֶשׂ בֶּן־שְׁנָת֖וֹ לְאָשָׁ֑ם וְהַיָּמִ֤ים הָרִאשֹׁנִים֙ יִפְּל֔וּ כִּ֥י טָמֵ֖א נִזְרֽוֹ׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vezo֥'t tּora֖t hanּazi֑yr bּey֗om melo't֙ yeme֣y nizer֔o yabi֣y 'ot֔o 'el-pּe֖tach 'o֥hel mo'eֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now this is the law for the Nazirite when the period of their dedication is over: They must be brought to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

וְזֹ֥את תּוֹרַ֖ת הַנָּזִ֑יר בְּי֗וֹם מְלֹאת֙ יְמֵ֣י נִזְר֔וֹ יָבִ֣יא אֹת֔וֹ אֶל־פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehiqeri֣yb 'et-qarebּan֣o layhva֡h kּebeshs֩ bּen-shshenat֨o tami֤ym 'echad֙ le'ola֔h vekabeshsa֨h 'acha֧t bּat-shshenata֛hּ tּemiyma֖h lechatּa֑'t ve'aֽyil-'echa֥d tּami֖ym lishshelamiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)There they are to present their offerings to the LORD: a year-old male lamb without defect for a burnt offering, a year-old ewe lamb without defect for a sin offering, a ram without defect for a peace offering,

וְהִקְרִ֣יב אֶת־קָרְבָּנ֣וֹ לַיהוָ֡ה כֶּבֶשׂ֩ בֶּן־שְׁנָת֨וֹ תָמִ֤ים אֶחָד֙ לְעֹלָ֔ה וְכַבְשָׂ֨ה אַחַ֧ת בַּת־שְׁנָתָ֛הּ תְּמִימָ֖ה לְחַטָּ֑את וְאַֽיִל־אֶחָ֥ד תָּמִ֖ים לִשְׁלָמִֽים׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vesa֣l matzּ֗ot so֤let chalּot֙ bּelulo֣t bּashshּe֔men ureqiyqe֥y matzּ֖ot meshshuchi֣ym bּashshּa֑men uminechata֖m venisekּeyheֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)together with their grain offerings and drink offerings, and a basket of bread made without yeast, cakes of fine flour mixed with olive oil and wafers spread with oil.

וְסַ֣ל מַצּ֗וֹת סֹ֤לֶת חַלֹּת֙ בְּלוּלֹ֣ת בַּשֶּׁ֔מֶן וּרְקִיקֵ֥י מַצּ֖וֹת מְשֻׁחִ֣ים בַּשָּׁ֑מֶן וּמִנְחָתָ֖ם וְנִסְכֵּיהֶֽם׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehiqeri֥yb hakּohe֖n lipene֣y yehva֑h ve'ashsa֥h 'et-chatּa't֖o ve'et-'olatֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The priest shall present them before the LORD and perform the sin offering and the burnt offering.

וְהִקְרִ֥יב הַכֹּהֵ֖ן לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְעָשָׂ֥ה אֶת־חַטָּאת֖וֹ וְאֶת־עֹלָתֽוֹ׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-ha'a֜yil ya'ashse֨h ze֤bach shshelamiym֙ laֽyhva֔h 'a֖l sa֣l hamּatzּ֑ot ve'ashsah֙ hakּohe֔n 'et-minechat֖o ve'et-nisekּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He shall sacrifice the ram as a peace offering to the LORD, together with the basket of bread made without yeast; the priest shall also present the grain offering and the drink offering.

וְאֶת־הָאַ֜יִל יַעֲשֶׂ֨ה זֶ֤בַח שְׁלָמִים֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה עַ֖ל סַ֣ל הַמַּצּ֑וֹת וְעָשָׂה֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן אֶת־מִנְחָת֖וֹ וְאֶת־נִסְכּֽוֹ׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vegilּa֣ch hanּazi֗yr pּe֛tach 'o֥hel mo'e֖d 'et-ro֣'shsh nizer֑o velaqa֗ch 'et-shse'ar֙ ro֣'shsh nizer֔o venatan֙ 'al-ha'e֔shsh 'ashsher-tּa֖chat ze֥bach hashshּelamiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, the Nazirite must shave off the hair that was dedicated. They are to take the hair and put it in the fire under the peace offering sacrifice.

וְגִלַּ֣ח הַנָּזִ֗יר פֶּ֛תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵ֖ד אֶת־רֹ֣אשׁ נִזְר֑וֹ וְלָקַ֗ח אֶת־שְׂעַר֙ רֹ֣אשׁ נִזְר֔וֹ וְנָתַן֙ עַל־הָאֵ֔שׁ אֲשֶׁר־תַּ֖חַת זֶ֥בַח הַשְּׁלָמִֽים׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): velaqa֨ch hakּohe֜n 'et-hazּero֣'a bּeshshelah֮ min-ha'ayil֒ veֽchalּa֨t matzּa֤h 'achat֙ min-hasּa֔l ureqi֥yq matzּa֖h 'echa֑d venatan֙ 'al-kּapּe֣y hanּazi֔yr 'acha֖r hiֽtegּalּech֥o 'et-nizerֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)After the Nazirite has shaved off the dedicated hair, the priest is to place in their hands a boiled shoulder of the ram, and a cake and a wafer from the basket, both made without yeast.

וְלָקַ֨ח הַכֹּהֵ֜ן אֶת־הַזְּרֹ֣עַ בְּשֵׁלָה֮ מִן־הָאַיִל֒ וְֽחַלַּ֨ת מַצָּ֤ה אַחַת֙ מִן־הַסַּ֔ל וּרְקִ֥יק מַצָּ֖ה אֶחָ֑ד וְנָתַן֙ עַל־כַּפֵּ֣י הַנָּזִ֔יר אַחַ֖ר הִֽתְגַּלְּח֥וֹ אֶת־נִזְרֽוֹ׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): veheniyp֩ 'ota֨m hakּohe֥n ׀ tּenupah֮ lipene֣y yehvah֒ qo֤deshsh hu'֙ lakּohe֔n 'a֚l chaze֣h hatּenupa֔h ve'a֖l shsh֣oq hatּeruma֑h ve'acha֛r yishshetּe֥h hanּazi֖yr yaֽyin׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The priest shall wave them before the LORD as a wave offering; they are holy and belong to the priest, together with the breast that was waved and the thigh that was presented. After that, the Nazirite may drink wine.

וְהֵנִיף֩ אוֹתָ֨ם הַכֹּהֵ֥ן ׀ תְּנוּפָה֮ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָה֒ קֹ֤דֶשׁ הוּא֙ לַכֹּהֵ֔ן עַ֚ל חֲזֵ֣ה הַתְּנוּפָ֔ה וְעַ֖ל שׁ֣וֹק הַתְּרוּמָ֑ה וְאַחַ֛ר יִשְׁתֶּ֥ה הַנָּזִ֖יר יָֽיִן׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): zo֣'t tּora֣t hanּaziyr֮ 'ashshe֣r yidּor֒ qarebּan֤o laֽyhvah֙ 'al-nizer֔o milּeba֖d 'ashsher-tּashsּi֣yg yad֑o kּepi֤y nidero֙ 'ashshe֣r yidּo֔r kּe֣n ya'ashse֔h 'a֖l tּora֥t nizerֽo׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)This is the law for the Nazirite who vows their offering to the LORD according to their dedication, in addition to whatever else they can afford. They must fulfill the vow they have made, according to the law of the Nazirite.' "

זֹ֣את תּוֹרַ֣ת הַנָּזִיר֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִדֹּר֒ קָרְבָּנ֤וֹ לַֽיהוָה֙ עַל־נִזְר֔וֹ מִלְּבַ֖ד אֲשֶׁר־תַּשִּׂ֣יג יָד֑וֹ כְּפִ֤י נִדְרוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִדֹּ֔ר כֵּ֣ן יַעֲשֶׂ֔ה עַ֖ל תּוֹרַ֥ת נִזְרֽוֹ׃פ

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֥r yehva֖h 'el-moshshe֥h lּe'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD said to Moses:

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): dּabּe֤r 'eֽl-'aharon֙ ve'el-bּana֣yv le'mo֔r kּo֥h tebarak֖u 'et-bּene֣y yishsera'e֑l 'am֖or laheֽm׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)"Tell Aaron and his sons: 'This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:

דַּבֵּ֤ר אֶֽל־אַהֲרֹן֙ וְאֶל־בָּנָ֣יו לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּ֥ה תְבָרֲכ֖וּ אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אָמ֖וֹר לָהֶֽם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): yebarekeka֥ yehva֖h veyishshemereֽka׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)"The LORD bless you and keep you;

יְבָרֶכְךָ֥ יְהוָ֖ה וְיִשְׁמְרֶֽךָ׃ס

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): ya'e֨r yehva֧h ׀ pּana֛yv 'ele֖yka viֽychunּeֽkּa׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;

יָאֵ֨ר יְהוָ֧ה ׀ פָּנָ֛יו אֵלֶ֖יךָ וִֽיחֻנֶּֽךָּ׃ס

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): yishsּa֨ yehva֤h ׀ pּanayv֙ 'ele֔yka veyashse֥m leka֖ shshalֽom׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."

יִשָּׂ֨א יְהוָ֤ה ׀ פָּנָיו֙ אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְיָשֵׂ֥ם לְךָ֖ שָׁלֽוֹם׃ס

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): veshsam֥u 'et-shshemi֖y 'al-bּene֣y yishsera'e֑l va'ani֖y 'abarakeֽm׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them."

וְשָׂמ֥וּ אֶת־שְׁמִ֖י עַל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַאֲנִ֖י אֲבָרֲכֵֽם׃פ
