Chapter 25
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): gּam-'e֭lּeh mishshele֣y shshelomo֑h 'ashshe֥r he֝'etּi֗yqu 'aneshshe֤y ׀ chizeqiyּa֬h meֽleke-yehudaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

גַּם־אֵ֭לֶּה מִשְׁלֵ֣י שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶ֝עְתִּ֗יקוּ אַנְשֵׁ֤י ׀ חִזְקִיָּ֬ה מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָֽה׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּebo֣d 'e֭lohiym hasetּe֣r dּaba֑r ukebo֥d me֝laki֗ym chaqo֣r dּabaֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

כְּבֹ֣ד אֱ֭לֹהִים הַסְתֵּ֣ר דָּבָ֑ר וּכְבֹ֥ד מְ֝לָכִ֗ים חֲקֹ֣ר דָּבָֽר׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): shshama֣yim la֭rum va'a֣retz la'o֑meq vele֥b me֝laki֗ym 'e֣yn cheֽqer׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

שָׁמַ֣יִם לָ֭רוּם וָאָ֣רֶץ לָעֹ֑מֶק וְלֵ֥ב מְ֝לָכִ֗ים אֵ֣ין חֵֽקֶר׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): hag֣o siygi֣ym mikּa֑sep vayּetze֖ latzּore֣p kּeֽliy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the refiner.

הָג֣וֹ סִיגִ֣ים מִכָּ֑סֶף וַיֵּצֵ֖א לַצֹּרֵ֣ף כֶּֽלִי׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): hag֣o ra֭shsha lipeney-me֑leke veyikּ֖on bּatzּe֣deq kּise'ֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

הָג֣וֹ רָ֭שָׁע לִפְנֵי־מֶ֑לֶךְ וְיִכּ֖וֹן בַּצֶּ֣דֶק כִּסְאֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): al-tּitehadּa֥r lipeney-me֑leke ubimeq֥om gּe֝doli֗ym 'aֽl-tּa'amoֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Put not forth yourself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

אַל־תִּתְהַדַּ֥ר לִפְנֵי־מֶ֑לֶךְ וּבִמְק֥וֹם גְּ֝דֹלִ֗ים אַֽל־תַּעֲמֹֽד׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֤y t֥ob 'amar-leka֗ 'aֽle֫h he֥nּah meֽ֭hashshepּi֣yleka lipene֣y nadi֑yb 'ashshe֖r ra'֣u 'eyneֽyka׃
Edified Edition (EDE)For better it is that it be said to you, "Come up Here;" than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince whom your eyes have seen.

כִּ֤י ט֥וֹב אֲמָר־לְךָ֗ עֲֽלֵ֫ה הֵ֥נָּה מֵֽ֭הַשְׁפִּ֣ילְךָ לִפְנֵ֣י נָדִ֑יב אֲשֶׁ֖ר רָא֣וּ עֵינֶֽיךָ׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): al-tּetze֥ lari֗b ma֫he֥r pּe֣n mah-tּa֭'ashseh bּe'achariyta֑hּ bּehakeli֖ym 'oteka֣ re'eֽka׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Go not forth hastily to strive, lest you know not what to do in the end thereof, when your neighbour has put you to shame.

אַל־תֵּצֵ֥א לָרִ֗ב מַ֫הֵ֥ר פֶּ֣ן מַה־תַּ֭עֲשֶׂה בְּאַחֲרִיתָ֑הּ בְּהַכְלִ֖ים אֹתְךָ֣ רֵעֶֽךָ׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): riֽ֭ybeka ri֣yb 'et-re'e֑ka ves֖od 'ache֣r 'al-tּegaֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Debate your cause with your neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

רִֽ֭יבְךָ רִ֣יב אֶת־רֵעֶ֑ךָ וְס֖וֹד אַחֵ֣ר אַל־תְּגָֽל׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): pּeֽn-yechasּedeka֥ shshome֑'a ve֝dibּateka֗ lo֣ tashshֽub׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Lest he that hears it put you to shame, and your infamy turn not away.

פֶּֽן־יְחַסֶּדְךָ֥ שֹׁמֵ֑עַ וְ֝דִבָּתְךָ֗ לֹ֣א תָשֽׁוּב׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): tּapּuche֣y za֭hab bּemashsekּiyּ֥ot kּa֑sep dּa֝ba֗r dּabu֥r 'al-'apenaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

תַּפּוּחֵ֣י זָ֭הָב בְּמַשְׂכִּיּ֥וֹת כָּ֑סֶף דָּ֝בָ֗ר דָּבֻ֥ר עַל־אָפְנָֽיו׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): ne֣zem za֭hab vachaliy-ka֑tem moki֥ycha cha֝ka֗m 'al-'o֥zen shshomaֽ'at׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

נֶ֣זֶם זָ֭הָב וַחֲלִי־כָ֑תֶם מוֹכִ֥יחַ חָ֝כָ֗ם עַל־אֹ֥זֶן שֹׁמָֽעַת׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּetzinּat-shshe֨leg ׀ bּey֬om qatzi֗yr tzi֣yr ne֭'eman leshsholecha֑yv vene֖peshsh 'adona֣yv yashshiֽyb׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those who send him: for he refreshes the soul of his masters.

כְּצִנַּת־שֶׁ֨לֶג ׀ בְּי֬וֹם קָצִ֗יר צִ֣יר נֶ֭אֱמָן לְשֹׁלְחָ֑יו וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ אֲדֹנָ֣יו יָשִֽׁיב׃פ

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): neshsiy'i֣ym ve֭rucha vege֣shshem 'a֑yin 'i֥yshsh mi֝tehalּe֗l bּematּat-shshaֽqer׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Whoever boasts himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

נְשִׂיאִ֣ים וְ֭רוּחַ וְגֶ֣שֶׁם אָ֑יִן אִ֥ישׁ מִ֝תְהַלֵּ֗ל בְּמַתַּת־שָֽׁקֶר׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe'o֣reke 'a֭pּayim yeputּe֣h qatzi֑yn velashsh֥on ra֝kּa֗h tּishshebּar-gּaֽrem׃
Edified Edition (EDE)By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bone.

בְּאֹ֣רֶךְ אַ֭פַּיִם יְפֻתֶּ֣ה קָצִ֑ין וְלָשׁ֥וֹן רַ֝כָּ֗ה תִּשְׁבָּר־גָּֽרֶם׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): dּeba֣shsh ma֭tza'ta 'eko֣l dּayּe֑kּa pּen-tּi֝shsebּa'e֗nּu vahaqeֽ'tֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Have you found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for you, lest you be filled therewith, and vomit it.

דְּבַ֣שׁ מָ֭צָאתָ אֱכֹ֣ל דַּיֶּ֑ךָּ פֶּן־תִּ֝שְׂבָּעֶ֗נּוּ וַהֲקֵֽאתֽוֹ׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): hoqa֣r ra֭geleka mibּe֣yt re'e֑ka pּen-yi֝shsebּa'aka֗ ushsene'eֽka׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Withdraw your foot from your neighbour's house; lest he be weary of you, and so hate you.

הֹקַ֣ר רַ֭גְלְךָ מִבֵּ֣ית רֵעֶ֑ךָ פֶּן־יִ֝שְׂבָּעֲךָ֗ וּשְׂנֵאֶֽךָ׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): mepi֣ytz ve֭chereb veche֣tz shshan֑un 'i֥yshsh 'one֥h be֝re'e֗hu 'e֣d shshaֽqer׃
Edified Edition (EDE)A man that bears false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

מֵפִ֣יץ וְ֭חֶרֶב וְחֵ֣ץ שָׁנ֑וּן אִ֥ישׁ עֹנֶ֥ה בְ֝רֵעֵ֗הוּ עֵ֣ד שָֽׁקֶר׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): shshe֣n ro֭'ah vere֣gel mu'a֑det mibeta֥ch bּ֝oge֗d bּey֣om tzarֽah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

שֵׁ֣ן רֹ֭עָה וְרֶ֣גֶל מוּעָ֑דֶת מִבְטָ֥ח בּ֝וֹגֵ֗ד בְּי֣וֹם צָרָֽה׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): ma֥'adeh bּe֨ged ׀ bּey֣om qa֭rah cho֣metz 'al-na֑ter veshsha֥r bּa֝shshּiri֗ym 'a֣l leb-raֽ'׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)As he that takes away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that sings songs to an heavy heart.

מַ֥עֲדֶה בֶּ֨גֶד ׀ בְּי֣וֹם קָ֭רָה חֹ֣מֶץ עַל־נָ֑תֶר וְשָׁ֥ר בַּ֝שִּׁרִ֗ים עַ֣ל לֶב־רָֽע׃פ

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): im-ra'e֣b shso֭na'aka ha'akile֣hu la֑chem ve'im-tza֝me֗ hashsheqe֥hu maֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)If your enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

אִם־רָעֵ֣ב שֹׂ֭נַאֲךָ הַאֲכִלֵ֣הוּ לָ֑חֶם וְאִם־צָ֝מֵ֗א הַשְׁקֵ֥הוּ מָֽיִם׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֤y geֽchali֗ym 'a֭tּah chote֣h 'al-ro'shsh֑o vֽa֝yhva֗h yeshshalּem-laֽke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)For you shall heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward you.

כִּ֤י גֶֽחָלִ֗ים אַ֭תָּה חֹתֶ֣ה עַל־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וַֽ֝יהוָ֗ה יְשַׁלֶּם־לָֽךְ׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): r֣ucha tza֭pon tּech֣oleֽl gּa֑shshem upani֥ym ni֝ze'ami֗ym leshsh֣on saֽter׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The north wind drives away rain: so does an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

ר֣וּחַ צָ֭פוֹן תְּח֣וֹלֵֽל גָּ֑שֶׁם וּפָנִ֥ים נִ֝זְעָמִ֗ים לְשׁ֣וֹן סָֽתֶר׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): t֗ob shshe֥bet 'al-pּinּat-gּa֑g me'e֥shshet mdvnym mi֝deyani֗ym ube֥yt chaֽber׃
Edified Edition (EDE)It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

ט֗וֹב שֶׁ֥בֶת עַל־פִּנַּת־גָּ֑ג מֵאֵ֥שֶׁת מדונים מִ֝דְיָנִ֗ים וּבֵ֥ית חָֽבֶר׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): ma֣yim qa֭riym 'al-ne֣peshsh 'ayepa֑h ushshemu'a֥h t֝oba֗h me'e֥retz merechaֽq׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

מַ֣יִם קָ֭רִים עַל־נֶ֣פֶשׁ עֲיֵפָ֑ה וּשְׁמוּעָ֥ה ט֝וֹבָ֗ה מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מֶרְחָֽק׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): ma'eya֣n ni֭repּashs umaq֣or mashshecha֑t tza֝dּi֗yq ma֣t lipeneֽy-rashshaֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

מַעְיָ֣ן נִ֭רְפָּשׂ וּמָק֣וֹר מָשְׁחָ֑ת צַ֝דִּ֗יק מָ֣ט לִפְנֵֽי־רָשָֽׁע׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): a֘ko֤l dּeba֣shsh harebּ֣ot lo'-t֑ob veche֖qer kּeboda֣m kּabֽod׃
Edified Edition (EDE)It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

אָ֘כֹ֤ל דְּבַ֣שׁ הַרְבּ֣וֹת לֹא־ט֑וֹב וְחֵ֖קֶר כְּבֹדָ֣ם כָּבֽוֹד׃

28
Phonetic (Hebrew): i֣yr pּe֭rutzah 'e֣yn choma֑h 'i֝֗yshsh 'ashshe֤r 'e֖yn ma'etza֣r leruchֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

עִ֣יר פְּ֭רוּצָה אֵ֣ין חוֹמָ֑ה אִ֝֗ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אֵ֖ין מַעְצָ֣ר לְרוּחֽוֹ׃
