Chapter 28
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): na֣su ve'eyn-rode֣p rashsha֑ ve֝tzadּiyqi֗ym kּikepi֥yr yibetaֽch׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The wicked flee when no man pursues: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

נָ֣סוּ וְאֵין־רֹדֵ֣ף רָשָׁ֑ע וְ֝צַדִּיקִ֗ים כִּכְפִ֥יר יִבְטָֽח׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּepe֣shshaֽ 'e֭retz rabּi֣ym shsare֑yha ube'ada֥m mebi֥yn yo֝de֗'a kּe֣n ya'ariֽyke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.

בְּפֶ֣שַֽׁע אֶ֭רֶץ רַבִּ֣ים שָׂרֶ֑יהָ וּבְאָדָ֥ם מֵבִ֥ין יֹ֝דֵ֗עַ כֵּ֣ן יַאֲרִֽיךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): gּe֣ber ra֭shsh ve'oshshe֣q dּalּi֑ym mata֥r so֝che֗p ve'e֣yn laֽchem׃
Edified Edition (EDE)A poor man that oppresses the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaves no food.

גֶּ֣בֶר רָ֭שׁ וְעֹשֵׁ֣ק דַּלִּ֑ים מָטָ֥ר סֹ֝חֵ֗ף וְאֵ֣ין לָֽחֶם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ozebe֣y t֭orah yehaֽlel֣u rashsha֑ veshshomere֥y t֝ora֗h yitegּa֥ru baֽm׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

עֹזְבֵ֣י ת֭וֹרָה יְהַֽלְל֣וּ רָשָׁ֑ע וְשֹׁמְרֵ֥י ת֝וֹרָ֗ה יִתְגָּ֥רוּ בָֽם׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): aneshshey-ra֭ lo'-yabi֣ynu mishshepּa֑t umebaqeshshe֥y ye֝hva֗h yabi֥ynu koֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Evil men understand not judgement: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

אַנְשֵׁי־רָ֭ע לֹא־יָבִ֣ינוּ מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּמְבַקְשֵׁ֥י יְ֝הוָ֗ה יָבִ֥ינוּ כֹֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): tֽob-ra֭shsh hole֣ke bּetumּ֑o me'iqּe֥shsh dּe֝raka֗yim veh֣u 'ashshiֽyr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Better is the poor that walks in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

טֽוֹב־רָ֭שׁ הוֹלֵ֣ךְ בְּתֻמּ֑וֹ מֵעִקֵּ֥שׁ דְּ֝רָכַ֗יִם וְה֣וּא עָשִֽׁיר׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): notze֣r tּ֭orah bּe֣n mebi֑yn vero'eh zֽ֝oleli֗ym yakeli֥ym 'abiֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Whoever keeps the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shames his father.

נוֹצֵ֣ר תּ֭וֹרָה בֵּ֣ן מֵבִ֑ין וְרֹעֶה זֽ֝וֹלְלִ֗ים יַכְלִ֥ים אָבִֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): marebּe֣h h֭ono bּene֣shsheke vbtrbyt vetarebּi֑yt lechone֖n dּalּi֣ym yiqebּetzeֽnּu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He that by usury and unjust gain increases his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

מַרְבֶּ֣ה ה֭וֹנוֹ בְּנֶ֣שֶׁךְ ובתרבית וְתַרְבִּ֑ית לְחוֹנֵ֖ן דַּלִּ֣ים יִקְבְּצֶֽנּוּ׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): mesi֣yr 'a֭zeno mishshּemo֣'a tּora֑h gּaֽm-tּe֝pilּat֗o tּo'ebaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

מֵסִ֣יר אָ֭זְנוֹ מִשְּׁמֹ֣עַ תּוֹרָ֑ה גַּֽם־תְּ֝פִלָּת֗וֹ תּוֹעֵבָֽה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): mashshegּe֤h yeshshari֨ym ׀ bּede֥reke ra֗ bּishshechut֥o hֽu'-yipּ֑ol u֝temiymi֗ym yinechalu-tֽob׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Whoever causes the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

מַשְׁגֶּ֤ה יְשָׁרִ֨ים ׀ בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ רָ֗ע בִּשְׁחוּת֥וֹ הֽוּא־יִפּ֑וֹל וּ֝תְמִימִ֗ים יִנְחֲלוּ־טֽוֹב׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): chaka֣m bּe֭'eynayv 'i֣yshsh 'ashshi֑yr veda֖l mebi֣yn yacheqereֽnּu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that has understanding searches him out.

חָכָ֣ם בְּ֭עֵינָיו אִ֣ישׁ עָשִׁ֑יר וְדַ֖ל מֵבִ֣ין יַחְקְרֶֽנּוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּa'alo֣tz tza֭dּiyqiym rabּa֣h tipe'a֑ret ubeq֥um re֝shsha'i֗ym yechupּa֥shs 'adaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

בַּעֲלֹ֣ץ צַ֭דִּיקִים רַבָּ֣ה תִפְאָ֑רֶת וּבְק֥וּם רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים יְחֻפַּ֥שׂ אָדָֽם׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): mekasּe֣h pe֭shsha'ayv lo֣ yatzeli֑ycha umode֖h ve'oze֣b yeruchaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He that covers his sins shall not prosper: but whoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.

מְכַסֶּ֣ה פְ֭שָׁעָיו לֹ֣א יַצְלִ֑יחַ וּמוֹדֶ֖ה וְעֹזֵ֣ב יְרֻחָֽם׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): ashshere֣y 'a֭dam mepache֣d tּami֑yd umaqeshshe֥h li֝bּ֗o yipּ֥ol bּera'aֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Happy is the man that fears always: but he that hardens his heart shall fall into mischief.

אַשְׁרֵ֣י אָ֭דָם מְפַחֵ֣ד תָּמִ֑יד וּמַקְשֶׁ֥ה לִ֝בּ֗וֹ יִפּ֥וֹל בְּרָעָֽה׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): ariy-no֭hem vedo֣b shshoqe֑q moshshe֥l ra֝shsha֗ 'a֣l 'am-dּaֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

אֲרִי־נֹ֭הֵם וְדֹ֣ב שׁוֹקֵ֑ק מֹשֵׁ֥ל רָ֝שָׁ֗ע עַ֣ל עַם־דָּֽל׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): nagi֗yd chasa֣r tּe֭bunot vera֥b ma'ashshaqּ֑ot shn'y shso֥ne be֝֗tza ya'ari֥yke yamiֽym׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)The prince that lacks understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hates covetousness shall prolong his days.

נָגִ֗יד חֲסַ֣ר תְּ֭בוּנוֹת וְרַ֥ב מַעֲשַׁקּ֑וֹת שנאי שֹׂ֥נֵא בֶ֝֗צַע יַאֲרִ֥יךְ יָמִֽים׃פ

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): a֭dam 'ashshu֣q bּedam-napeshsh 'ad-bּ֥or ya֝n֗us 'al-yitemeku-bֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)A man that does violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

אָ֭דָם עָשֻׁ֣ק בְּדַם־נָפֶשׁ עַד־בּ֥וֹר יָ֝נ֗וּס אַל־יִתְמְכוּ־בֽוֹ׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): hole֣ke tּa֭miym yiuashshe֑'a vene'eqa֥shsh dּe֝raka֗yim yipּ֥ol bּe'echaֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Whoever walks uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

הוֹלֵ֣ךְ תָּ֭מִים יִוָּשֵׁ֑עַ וְנֶעְקַ֥שׁ דְּ֝רָכַ֗יִם יִפּ֥וֹל בְּאֶחָֽת׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): obe֣d 'a֭demato yiֽshsebּaֽ'-la֑chem umeradּe֥p re֝qi֗ym yiֽshsebּaֽ'-riֽyshsh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He that tills his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that follows after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

עֹבֵ֣ד אַ֭דְמָתוֹ יִֽשְׂבַּֽע־לָ֑חֶם וּמְרַדֵּ֥ף רֵ֝קִ֗ים יִֽשְׂבַּֽע־רִֽישׁ׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): i֣yshsh 'e֭munot rab-bּerak֑ot ve'a֥tz le֝ha'ashshi֗yr lo֣ yinּaqeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that makes haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

אִ֣ישׁ אֱ֭מוּנוֹת רַב־בְּרָכ֑וֹת וְאָ֥ץ לְ֝הַעֲשִׁ֗יר לֹ֣א יִנָּקֶֽה׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): haֽkּer-pּani֥ym lo'-t֑ob ve'al-pּat-le֝֗chem yipeshsha'-gּaֽber׃
Edified Edition (EDE)To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

הַֽכֵּר־פָּנִ֥ים לֹא־ט֑וֹב וְעַל־פַּת־לֶ֝֗חֶם יִפְשַׁע־גָּֽבֶר׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): niֽboha֥l lah֗on 'i֭yshsh ra֣ 'a֑yin veloֽ'-ye֝da kּiy-che֥ser yebo'eֽnּu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He that hastes to be rich has an evil eye, and considers not that poverty shall come upon him.

נִֽבֳהָ֥ל לַה֗וֹן אִ֭ישׁ רַ֣ע עָ֑יִן וְלֹֽא־יֵ֝דַע כִּי־חֶ֥סֶר יְבֹאֶֽנּוּ׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): m֘oki֤ycha 'ada֣m 'a֭charay che֣n yimetza֑ miֽmּachali֥yq lashshֽon׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He that rebukes a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flatters with the tongue.

מ֘וֹכִ֤יחַ אָדָ֣ם אַ֭חֲרַי חֵ֣ן יִמְצָ֑א מִֽמַּחֲלִ֥יק לָשֽׁוֹן׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): gּoze֤l ׀ 'a֘bi֤yv ve'imּ֗o ve'ome֥r 'eֽyn-pּa֑shsha chabe֥r h֝֗u le'i֣yshsh mashshechiֽyt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Whoever robs his father or his mother, and says, "It is no transgression;" the same is the companion of a destroyer.

גּוֹזֵ֤ל ׀ אָ֘בִ֤יו וְאִמּ֗וֹ וְאֹמֵ֥ר אֵֽין־פָּ֑שַׁע חָבֵ֥ר ה֝֗וּא לְאִ֣ישׁ מַשְׁחִֽית׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): rechab-ne֭peshsh yegare֣h mad֑on ubote֖cha 'al-yehva֣h yedushshּaֽn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife: but he that puts his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

רְחַב־נֶ֭פֶשׁ יְגָרֶ֣ה מָד֑וֹן וּבוֹטֵ֖חַ עַל־יְהוָ֣ה יְדֻשָּֽׁן׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּote֣cha bּe֭libּo h֣u kesi֑yl vehole֥ke bּe֝chakema֗h h֣u yimּaleֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He that trusts in his own heart is a fool: but whoever walks wisely, he shall be delivered.

בּוֹטֵ֣חַ בְּ֭לִבּוֹ ה֣וּא כְסִ֑יל וְהוֹלֵ֥ךְ בְּ֝חָכְמָ֗ה ה֣וּא יִמָּלֵֽט׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): note֣n la֭rashsh 'e֣yn maches֑or uma'eli֥ym 'e֝yna֗yv rab-me'erֽot׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He that gives to the poor shall not lack: but he that hides his eyes shall have many a curse.

נוֹתֵ֣ן לָ֭רָשׁ אֵ֣ין מַחְס֑וֹר וּמַעְלִ֥ים עֵ֝ינָ֗יו רַב־מְאֵרֽוֹת׃

28
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּeq֣um re֭shsha'iym yisּate֣r 'ada֑m u֝be'abeda֗m yirebּ֥u tzadּiyqiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.

בְּק֣וּם רְ֭שָׁעִים יִסָּתֵ֣ר אָדָ֑ם וּ֝בְאָבְדָ֗ם יִרְבּ֥וּ צַדִּיקִֽים׃
