Chapter 56

Phonetic (Hebrew): lamenatzּe֤cha ׀ 'al-y֬onat 'e֣lem re֭choqiym ledavi֣d miketּa֑m bּeֽ'echo֨z 'ot֖o pelishshetּi֣ym bּegaֽt׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; he fights daily and oppresses me.

לַמְנַצֵּ֤חַ ׀ עַל־י֬וֹנַת אֵ֣לֶם רְ֭חֹקִים לְדָוִ֣ד מִכְתָּ֑ם בֶּֽאֱחֹ֨ז אֹת֖וֹ פְלִשְׁתִּ֣ים בְּגַֽת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): chanּe֣niy 'e֭lohiym kּiֽy-shshe'apa֣niy 'en֑oshsh kּal-ha֝yּ֗om loche֥m yilechatzeֽniy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)My enemies would daily swallow me up; for they are many who fight against me, O Most High.

חָנֵּ֣נִי אֱ֭לֹהִים כִּֽי־שְׁאָפַ֣נִי אֱנ֑וֹשׁ כָּל־הַ֝יּ֗וֹם לֹחֵ֥ם יִלְחָצֵֽנִי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shsha'ap֣u shsh֭oreray kּal-hayּ֑om kּiֽy-rabּi֨ym lochami֖ym li֣y marֽom׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When I am afraid, I will trust in you.

שָׁאֲפ֣וּ שׁ֭וֹרְרַי כָּל־הַיּ֑וֹם כִּֽי־רַבִּ֨ים לֹחֲמִ֖ים לִ֣י מָרֽוֹם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): y֥om 'iyra֑ 'a֝ni֗y 'ele֥yka 'ebetaֽch׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In God I will praise his word; in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do to me.

י֥וֹם אִירָ֑א אֲ֝נִ֗י אֵלֶ֥יךָ אֶבְטָֽח׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe'lohiym֮ 'ahalּe֪l dּeba֫r֥o bּe'lohi֣ym bּa֭tachetּiy lo֣ 'iyra֑ mah-yּa'ashse֖h bashsa֣r liֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Every day they wrest my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

בֵּאלֹהִים֮ אֲהַלֵּ֪ל דְּבָ֫ר֥וֹ בֵּאלֹהִ֣ים בָּ֭טַחְתִּי לֹ֣א אִירָ֑א מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה בָשָׂ֣ר לִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-ha֭yּom dּebara֣y ye'atzּe֑bu 'ala֖y kּal-macheshshebota֣m laraֽ'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

כָּל־הַ֭יּוֹם דְּבָרַ֣י יְעַצֵּ֑בוּ עָלַ֖י כָּל־מַחְשְׁבֹתָ֣ם לָרָֽע׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): yag֤uru ׀ ytzpynv yitzepּ֗onu he֭mּah 'aqeba֣y yishshemo֑ru kּa֝'ashshe֗r qiu֥u napeshshiֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Shall they escape by iniquity? In your anger cast down the peoples, O God.

יָג֤וּרוּ ׀ יצפינו יִצְפּ֗וֹנוּ הֵ֭מָּה עֲקֵבַ֣י יִשְׁמֹ֑רוּ כַּ֝אֲשֶׁ֗ר קִוּ֥וּ נַפְשִֽׁי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): al-'a֥ven pּalּet-la֑mo bּe֝'a֗p 'amּi֤ym ׀ hore֬d 'elohiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You keep track of my wanderings; put my tears in your bottle; are they not in your book?

עַל־אָ֥וֶן פַּלֶּט־לָ֑מוֹ בְּ֝אַ֗ף עַמִּ֤ים ׀ הוֹרֵ֬ד אֱלֹהִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): nodiy֮ sapa֪retּa֫h 'a֥tּah shsi֣ymah dime'ati֣y beno'de֑ka ha֝lo֗ bּesiperateֽka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When I cry out to you, then my enemies shall turn back; this I know, for God is for me.

נֹדִי֮ סָפַ֪רְתָּ֫ה אָ֥תָּה שִׂ֣ימָה דִמְעָתִ֣י בְנֹאדֶ֑ךָ הֲ֝לֹ֗א בְּסִפְרָתֶֽךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): a֥֨z ya֘shsh֤ubu 'oyeba֣y 'a֭chor bּey֣om 'eqera֑ zeh-ya֝da֗'etּiy kּiֽy-'elohi֥ym liֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In God I will praise his word; in the LORD I will praise his word.

אָ֥֨ז יָ֘שׁ֤וּבוּ אוֹיְבַ֣י אָ֭חוֹר בְּי֣וֹם אֶקְרָ֑א זֶה־יָ֝דַ֗עְתִּי כִּֽי־אֱלֹהִ֥ים לִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּeֽ֭'lohiym 'ahalּe֣l dּaba֑r bּa֝yhva֗h 'ahalּe֥l dּabaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid what man can do to me.

בֵּֽ֭אלֹהִים אֲהַלֵּ֣ל דָּבָ֑ר בַּ֝יהוָ֗ה אֲהַלֵּ֥ל דָּבָֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּeֽ'lohi֣ym bּa֭tachetּiy lo֣ 'iyra֑ mah-yּa'ashse֖h 'ada֣m liֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Your vows are upon me, O God; I will render praises to you.

בֵּֽאלֹהִ֣ים בָּ֭טַחְתִּי לֹ֣א אִירָ֑א מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה אָדָ֣ם לִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ala֣y 'elohi֣ym nedare֑yka 'ashshalּe֖m tּodo֣t laֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For you have delivered my soul from death; will you not deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

עָלַ֣י אֱלֹהִ֣ים נְדָרֶ֑יךָ אֲשַׁלֵּ֖ם תּוֹדֹ֣ת לָֽךְ׃

כִּ֤י הִצַּ֪לְתָּ נַפְשִׁ֡י מִמָּוֶת֮ הֲלֹ֥א רַגְלַ֗י מִ֫דֶּ֥חִי לְ֭הִֽתְהַלֵּךְ לִפְנֵ֣י אֱלֹהִ֑ים בְּ֝א֗וֹר הַֽחַיִּֽים׃
