Zechariah

Chapter 4

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֕shshab hamּale'a֖ke hadּobe֣r bּi֑y vaye'iyre֕niy kּe'i֖yshsh 'ashsher-ye'֥or mishshּenatֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep,

וַיָּ֕שָׁב הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ הַדֹּבֵ֣ר בִּ֑י וַיְעִירֵ֕נִי כְּאִ֖ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־יֵע֥וֹר מִשְּׁנָתֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer 'ela֔y ma֥h 'atּa֖h ro'e֑h vy'mr va'oma֡r ra'i֣ytiy ׀ vehinּe֣h menorat֩ zaha֨b kּulּa֜hּ vegulּa֣hּ 'al-ro'shsha֗hּ veshshibe'a֤h nerote֨yha֙ 'ale֔yha shshibe'a֤h veshshibe'ah֙ mֽutzaq֔ot lanּer֖ot 'ashshe֥r 'al-ro'shshaֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And said to me, "What seest you?" And I said, "I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:"

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֔י מָ֥ה אַתָּ֖ה רֹאֶ֑ה ויאמר וָאֹמַ֡ר רָאִ֣יתִי ׀ וְהִנֵּ֣ה מְנוֹרַת֩ זָהָ֨ב כֻּלָּ֜הּ וְגֻלָּ֣הּ עַל־רֹאשָׁ֗הּ וְשִׁבְעָ֤ה נֵרֹתֶ֨יהָ֙ עָלֶ֔יהָ שִׁבְעָ֤ה וְשִׁבְעָה֙ מֽוּצָק֔וֹת לַנֵּר֖וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל־רֹאשָֽׁהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ushshena֥yim zeyti֖ym 'ale֑yha 'echad֙ miymi֣yn hagּulּa֔h ve'echa֖d 'al-shsemo'laֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof."

וּשְׁנַ֥יִם זֵיתִ֖ים עָלֶ֑יהָ אֶחָד֙ מִימִ֣ין הַגֻּלָּ֔ה וְאֶחָ֖ד עַל־שְׂמֹאלָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'a֨'an֙ vaֽ'oma֔r 'el-hamּale'a֛ke hadּobe֥r bּi֖y le'mo֑r mah-'e֖lּeh 'adoniֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So I answered and spoke to the angel that talked with me, saying, "What are these, my lord?"

וָאַ֨עַן֙ וָֽאֹמַ֔ר אֶל־הַמַּלְאָ֛ךְ הַדֹּבֵ֥ר בִּ֖י לֵאמֹ֑ר מָה־אֵ֖לֶּה אֲדֹנִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va֠yּa'an hamּale'a֞ke hadּobe֥r bּiy֙ vayּo֣'mer 'ela֔y hal֥o yada֖'etּa mah-he֣mּah 'e֑lּeh va'oma֖r lo֥ 'adoniֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then the angel that talked with me answered and said to me, "Know you not what these be?" And I said, "No, my lord."

וַ֠יַּעַן הַמַּלְאָ֞ךְ הַדֹּבֵ֥ר בִּי֙ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֔י הֲל֥וֹא יָדַ֖עְתָּ מָה־הֵ֣מָּה אֵ֑לֶּה וָאֹמַ֖ר לֹ֥א אֲדֹנִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֜'an vayּo֤'mer 'elay֙ le'mo֔r ze֚h dּebar-yehva֔h 'el-zerubּabe֖l le'mo֑r lo֤ becha֨yil֙ velo֣ beko֔cha kּi֣y 'im-bּeruchi֔y 'ama֖r yehva֥h tzeba'ֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel, saying, '[1] Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit,' says the LORD of hosts."

וַיַּ֜עַן וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלַי֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר זֶ֚ה דְּבַר־יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־זְרֻבָּבֶ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר לֹ֤א בְחַ֨יִל֙ וְלֹ֣א בְכֹ֔חַ כִּ֣י אִם־בְּרוּחִ֔י אָמַ֖ר יְהוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): miֽy-'atּa֧h haֽr-hagּad֛ol lipene֥y zerubּabe֖l lemiyshsho֑r vehotziy'֙ 'et-ha'e֣ben haro'shsha֔h tּeshshu'֕ot che֥n che֖n laֽhּ׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)"Who are you, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, 'Grace, grace to it!'"

מִֽי־אַתָּ֧ה הַֽר־הַגָּד֛וֹל לִפְנֵ֥י זְרֻבָּבֶ֖ל לְמִישֹׁ֑ר וְהוֹצִיא֙ אֶת־הָאֶ֣בֶן הָרֹאשָׁ֔ה תְּשֻׁא֕וֹת חֵ֥ן חֵ֖ן לָֽהּ׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֥y debar-yehva֖h 'ela֥y le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): yede֣y zerubּabe֗l yisּed֛u habּa֥yit hazּe֖h veyada֣yv tּebatzּa֑'enah veya֣da'etּa֔ kּiֽy-yehva֥h tzeba'֖ot shshelacha֥niy 'aleykeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you."

יְדֵ֣י זְרֻבָּבֶ֗ל יִסְּד֛וּ הַבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּ֖ה וְיָדָ֣יו תְּבַצַּ֑עְנָה וְיָ֣דַעְתָּ֔ כִּֽי־יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת שְׁלָחַ֥נִי אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y mi֣y baz֮ ley֣om qetanּot֒ veshsamech֗u vera'֞u 'et-ha'e֧ben habּedi֛yl bּeya֥d zerubּabe֖l shshibe'ah-'e֑lּeh 'eyne֣y yehva֔h he֥mּah meshshoteti֖ym bּekal-ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"For who has despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth."

כִּ֣י מִ֣י בַז֮ לְי֣וֹם קְטַנּוֹת֒ וְשָׂמְח֗וּ וְרָא֞וּ אֶת־הָאֶ֧בֶן הַבְּדִ֛יל בְּיַ֥ד זְרֻבָּבֶ֖ל שִׁבְעָה־אֵ֑לֶּה עֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה הֵ֥מָּה מְשׁוֹטְטִ֖ים בְּכָל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'a֖'an va'oma֣r 'ela֑yv mah-shshּene֤y hazּeytiym֙ ha'e֔leh 'al-yemi֥yn hamּenora֖h ve'al-shsemo'vlaֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then answered I, and said to him, "What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?"

וָאַ֖עַן וָאֹמַ֣ר אֵלָ֑יו מַה־שְּׁנֵ֤י הַזֵּיתִים֙ הָאֵ֔לֶה עַל־יְמִ֥ין הַמְּנוֹרָ֖ה וְעַל־שְׂמֹאולָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'a֣'an shsheni֔yt va'oma֖r 'ela֑yv mah-shshetּe֞y shshibּale֣y hazּeyti֗ym 'ashsher֙ bּeya֗d shsheney֙ tzanetּer֣ot hazּaha֔b haֽmeriyqi֥ym me'aleyhe֖m hazּahaֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And again I answered, and said to him, "What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?"

וָאַ֣עַן שֵׁנִ֔ית וָאֹמַ֖ר אֵלָ֑יו מַה־שְׁתֵּ֞י שִׁבֲּלֵ֣י הַזֵּיתִ֗ים אֲשֶׁר֙ בְּיַ֗ד שְׁנֵי֙ צַנְתְּר֣וֹת הַזָּהָ֔ב הַֽמְרִיקִ֥ים מֵעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם הַזָּהָֽב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer 'elay֙ le'mo֔r hal֥o yada֖'etּa mah-'e֑lּeh va'oma֖r lo֥ 'adoniֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And he answered me and said, "Know you not what these be?" And I said, "No, my lord."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלַי֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הֲל֥וֹא יָדַ֖עְתָּ מָה־אֵ֑לֶּה וָאֹמַ֖ר לֹ֥א אֲדֹנִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֕'mer 'e֖lּeh shshene֣y beneֽy-hayּitzeha֑r ha'omedi֖ym 'al-'ad֥on kּal-ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then said he, "These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth."

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אֵ֖לֶּה שְׁנֵ֣י בְנֵֽי־הַיִּצְהָ֑ר הָעֹמְדִ֖ים עַל־אֲד֥וֹן כָּל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃
