Zechariah

Chapter 5

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'ashsh֕ub va'eshsּa֥ 'eyna֖y vaֽ'ere'e֑h vehinּe֖h megilּa֥h 'apaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, a flying roll.

וָאָשׁ֕וּב וָאֶשָּׂ֥א עֵינַ֖י וָֽאֶרְאֶ֑ה וְהִנֵּ֖ה מְגִלָּ֥ה עָפָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer 'ela֔y ma֥h 'atּa֖h ro'e֑h va'oma֗r 'ani֤y ro'eh֙ megilּa֣h 'apa֔h 'arekּahּ֙ 'eshseri֣ym bּaֽ'amּa֔h verachebּa֖hּ 'e֥shser bּa'amּaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He asked me, 'What do you see?' I answered, 'I see a flying scroll, twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.'

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֔י מָ֥ה אַתָּ֖ה רֹאֶ֑ה וָאֹמַ֗ר אֲנִ֤י רֹאֶה֙ מְגִלָּ֣ה עָפָ֔ה אָרְכָּהּ֙ עֶשְׂרִ֣ים בָּֽאַמָּ֔ה וְרָחְבָּ֖הּ עֶ֥שֶׂר בָּאַמָּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer 'ela֔y zo֚'t haֽ'ala֔h hayּotze֖'t 'al-pּene֣y kal-ha'a֑retz kּi֣y kal-hagּone֗b mizּeh֙ kּam֣oha niqּa֔h vekal-hanּi֨shshebּa֔ mizּe֖h kּam֥oha niqּaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then said he to me, "This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that steals shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that swears shall be cut off as on that side according to it."

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֔י זֹ֚את הָֽאָלָ֔ה הַיּוֹצֵ֖את עַל־פְּנֵ֣י כָל־הָאָ֑רֶץ כִּ֣י כָל־הַגֹּנֵ֗ב מִזֶּה֙ כָּמ֣וֹהָ נִקָּ֔ה וְכָל־הַנִּ֨שְׁבָּ֔ע מִזֶּ֖ה כָּמ֥וֹהָ נִקָּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hotze'ti֗yha ne'um֙ yehva֣h tzeba'֔ot uba֨'ah֙ 'el-bּe֣yt hagּanּa֔b ve'el-bּe֛yt hanּishshebּa֥ bּishshemi֖y lashshּa֑qer vela֨neh֙ bּet֣oke bּeyt֔o vekilּa֖tּu ve'et-'etza֥yv ve'et-'abanaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"I will bring it forth," says the LORD of hosts, "and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by My name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof."

הוֹצֵאתִ֗יהָ נְאֻם֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת וּבָ֨אָה֙ אֶל־בֵּ֣ית הַגַּנָּ֔ב וְאֶל־בֵּ֛ית הַנִּשְׁבָּ֥ע בִּשְׁמִ֖י לַשָּׁ֑קֶר וְלָ֨נֶה֙ בְּת֣וֹךְ בֵּית֔וֹ וְכִלַּ֖תּוּ וְאֶת־עֵצָ֥יו וְאֶת־אֲבָנָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּetze֕ hamּale'a֖ke hadּobe֣r bּi֑y vayּo֣'mer 'ela֔y shsa֣ na֤ 'eyne֨yka֙ ure'e֔h ma֖h hayּotze֥'t hazּoֽ't׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said to me, "Lift up now your eyes, and see what is this that goes forth."

וַיֵּצֵ֕א הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ הַדֹּבֵ֣ר בִּ֑י וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֔י שָׂ֣א נָ֤א עֵינֶ֨יךָ֙ וּרְאֵ֔ה מָ֖ה הַיּוֹצֵ֥את הַזֹּֽאת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'oma֖r mah-hi֑y vayּo֗'mer zo֤'t haֽ'eypah֙ hayּotze֔'t vayּo֕'mer zo֥'t 'eyna֖m bּekal-ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And I said, "What is it?" And he said, "This is an ephah that goes forth." He said moreover, "This is their resemblance through all the earth."

וָאֹמַ֖ר מַה־הִ֑יא וַיֹּ֗אמֶר זֹ֤את הָֽאֵיפָה֙ הַיּוֹצֵ֔את וַיֹּ֕אמֶר זֹ֥את עֵינָ֖ם בְּכָל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehinּe֛h kּikּa֥r 'ope֖ret nishsּe֑'t vezo't֙ 'ishshּa֣h 'acha֔t yoshshe֖bet bּet֥oke ha'eypaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sits in the midst of the ephah.

וְהִנֵּ֛ה כִּכַּ֥ר עֹפֶ֖רֶת נִשֵּׂ֑את וְזֹאת֙ אִשָּׁ֣ה אַחַ֔ת יוֹשֶׁ֖בֶת בְּת֥וֹךְ הָאֵיפָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer֙ zo֣'t harishshe'a֔h vayּashshele֥ke 'ota֖hּ 'el-tּ֣oke haֽ'eypa֑h vayּashshele֛ke 'et-'e֥ben ha'ope֖ret 'el-pּiֽyha׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)And he said, "This is wickedness." And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ זֹ֣את הָרִשְׁעָ֔ה וַיַּשְׁלֵ֥ךְ אֹתָ֖הּ אֶל־תּ֣וֹךְ הָֽאֵיפָ֑ה וַיַּשְׁלֵ֛ךְ אֶת־אֶ֥בֶן הָעֹפֶ֖רֶת אֶל־פִּֽיהָ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'eshsּa֨ 'eyna֜y va'e֗re vehinּeh֩ shshetּa֨yim nashshi֤ym yֽotze'ot֙ ver֣ucha bּekanepeyhe֔m velahe֥nּah kenapa֖yim kּekanepe֣y hachasiyda֑h vatּishsּe֨'nah֙ 'et-ha֣'eypa֔h bּe֥yn ha'a֖retz ube֥yn hashshּamaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.

וָאֶשָּׂ֨א עֵינַ֜י וָאֵ֗רֶא וְהִנֵּה֩ שְׁתַּ֨יִם נָשִׁ֤ים יֽוֹצְאוֹת֙ וְר֣וּחַ בְּכַנְפֵיהֶ֔ם וְלָהֵ֥נָּה כְנָפַ֖יִם כְּכַנְפֵ֣י הַחֲסִידָ֑ה וַתִּשֶּׂ֨אנָה֙ אֶת־הָ֣אֵיפָ֔ה בֵּ֥ין הָאָ֖רֶץ וּבֵ֥ין הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'oma֕r 'el-hamּale'a֖ke hadּobe֣r bּi֑y 'a֛nah he֥mּah mֽolik֖ot 'et-ha'eypaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then said I to the angel that talked with me, "Where do these bear the ephah?"

וָאֹמַ֕ר אֶל־הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ הַדֹּבֵ֣ר בִּ֑י אָ֛נָה הֵ֥מָּה מֽוֹלִכ֖וֹת אֶת־הָאֵיפָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer 'ela֔y libenֽot-la֥hֿ ba֖yit bּe'e֣retz shshine'a֑r vehuka֛n vehunּi֥ychah shshּa֖m 'al-mekunataֽhּ׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)And he said to me, "To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base."

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֔י לִבְנֽוֹת־לָ֥הֿ בַ֖יִת בְּאֶ֣רֶץ שִׁנְעָ֑ר וְהוּכַ֛ן וְהֻנִּ֥יחָה שָּׁ֖ם עַל־מְכֻנָתָֽהּ׃ס
