Zechariah

Chapter 7

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyehiy֙ bּishshena֣t 'arebּa֔ ledareya֖veshsh hamּe֑leke haya֨h debar-yehva֜h 'el-zekareya֗h bּe'arebּa'a֛h lacho֥deshsh hatּeshshi'i֖y bּekiseleֽv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came to Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;

וַֽיְהִי֙ בִּשְׁנַ֣ת אַרְבַּ֔ע לְדָרְיָ֖וֶשׁ הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ הָיָ֨ה דְבַר־יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־זְכַרְיָ֗ה בְּאַרְבָּעָ֛ה לַחֹ֥דֶשׁ הַתְּשִׁעִ֖י בְּכִסְלֵֽו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshelach֙ bּeֽyt-'e֔l shsar-'e֕tzer vere֥gem me֖leke vaֽ'anashsha֑yv lechalּ֖ot 'et-pּene֥y yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When they had sent to the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,

וַיִּשְׁלַח֙ בֵּֽית־אֵ֔ל שַׂר־אֶ֕צֶר וְרֶ֥גֶם מֶ֖לֶךְ וַֽאֲנָשָׁ֑יו לְחַלּ֖וֹת אֶת־פְּנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): le'mo֗r 'el-hakּoֽhaniym֙ 'ashsher֙ lebeyt-yehva֣h tzeba'֔ot ve'el-hanּebiy'i֖ym le'mo֑r haֽ'ebekּeh֙ bּacho֣deshsh hachamishshi֔y hinּaze֕r kּa'ashshe֣r 'ashsi֔ytiy ze֖h kּamּe֥h shshaniֽym׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)And to speak to the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, "Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?"

לֵאמֹ֗ר אֶל־הַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ אֲשֶׁר֙ לְבֵית־יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת וְאֶל־הַנְּבִיאִ֖ים לֵאמֹ֑ר הַֽאֶבְכֶּה֙ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַחֲמִשִׁ֔י הִנָּזֵ֕ר כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֔יתִי זֶ֖ה כַּמֶּ֥ה שָׁנִֽים׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֛y dּebar-yehva֥h tzeba'֖ot 'ela֥y le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then came the word of the LORD of hosts to me, saying,

וַיְהִ֛י דְּבַר־יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): emor֙ 'el-kּal-'a֣m ha'a֔retz ve'el-hakּohani֖ym le'mo֑r kּiֽy-tzametּe֨m vesap֜od bּachamiyshshi֣y ubashshּebiy'i֗y vezeh֙ shshibe'i֣ym shshana֔h hatz֥om tzametּu֖niy 'aֽniy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Speak to all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, 'When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those threescore and ten years, did you at all fast to Me, even to Me?'"

אֱמֹר֙ אֶל־כָּל־עַ֣ם הָאָ֔רֶץ וְאֶל־הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים לֵאמֹ֑ר כִּֽי־צַמְתֶּ֨ם וְסָפ֜וֹד בַּחֲמִישִׁ֣י וּבַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י וְזֶה֙ שִׁבְעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה הֲצ֥וֹם צַמְתֻּ֖נִי אָֽנִי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veki֥y to'kel֖u veki֣y tishshetּ֑u hal֤o 'atּem֙ ha'o֣keli֔ym ve'atּe֖m hashshּotiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And when you did eat, and when you did drink, did not you eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?"

וְכִ֥י תֹאכְל֖וּ וְכִ֣י תִשְׁתּ֑וּ הֲל֤וֹא אַתֶּם֙ הָאֹ֣כְלִ֔ים וְאַתֶּ֖ם הַשֹּׁתִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hal֣o 'et-hadּebari֗ym 'ashshe֨r qara֤ yehvah֙ bּeyad֙ hanּebiy'i֣ym hariֽ'shshoni֔ym bּihey֤ot yerushshalai֨m֙ yoshshe֣bet ushsheleva֔h ve'are֖yha sebiybote֑yha vehanּe֥geb vehashshּepela֖h yoshsheֽb׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)"Should you not hear the words which the LORD has cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?"

הֲל֣וֹא אֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר קָרָ֤א יְהוָה֙ בְּיַד֙ הַנְּבִיאִ֣ים הָרִֽאשֹׁנִ֔ים בִּהְי֤וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ יֹשֶׁ֣בֶת וּשְׁלֵוָ֔ה וְעָרֶ֖יהָ סְבִיבֹתֶ֑יהָ וְהַנֶּ֥גֶב וְהַשְּׁפֵלָ֖ה יֹשֵֽׁב׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyehiy֙ dּebar-yehva֔h 'el-zekareya֖h le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, saying,

וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־זְכַרְיָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֥h 'ama֛r yehva֥h tzeba'֖ot le'mo֑r mishshepּa֤t 'emet֙ shshepo֔tu veche֣sed veraֽchami֔ym 'ashs֖u 'i֥yshsh 'et-'achiֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying, "Execute true judgement, and show mercy and compassions every man to his brother:"

כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֛ר יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת לֵאמֹ֑ר מִשְׁפַּ֤ט אֱמֶת֙ שְׁפֹ֔טוּ וְחֶ֣סֶד וְרַֽחֲמִ֔ים עֲשׂ֖וּ אִ֥ישׁ אֶת־אָחִֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'alemana֧h veyat֛om gּe֥r ve'ani֖y 'aֽl-tּa'ashsho֑qu vera'at֙ 'i֣yshsh 'achi֔yv 'aֽl-tּacheshsheb֖u bּilebabekeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart."

וְאַלְמָנָ֧ה וְיָת֛וֹם גֵּ֥ר וְעָנִ֖י אַֽל־תַּעֲשֹׁ֑קוּ וְרָעַת֙ אִ֣ישׁ אָחִ֔יו אַֽל־תַּחְשְׁב֖וּ בִּלְבַבְכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayema'an֣u lehaqeshshi֔yb vayּitּen֥u kate֖p sora֑ret ve'azeneyhe֖m hikebּi֥ydu mishshּemֽo'a׃

Edified Edition (EDE)But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.

וַיְמָאֲנ֣וּ לְהַקְשִׁ֔יב וַיִּתְּנ֥וּ כָתֵ֖ף סֹרָ֑רֶת וְאָזְנֵיהֶ֖ם הִכְבִּ֥ידוּ מִשְּׁמֽוֹעַ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): velibּa֞m shsa֣mu shshami֗yr mi֠shshּemo'a 'et-hatּora֤h ve'et-hadּebariym֙ 'ashshe֨r shshala֜ch yehva֤h tzeba'ot֙ bּeruch֔o bּeya֖d hanּebiy'i֣ym hariֽ'shshoni֑ym vaֽyehiy֙ qe֣tzep gּad֔ol me'e֖t yehva֥h tzeba'ֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts has sent in His spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.

וְלִבָּ֞ם שָׂ֣מוּ שָׁמִ֗יר מִ֠שְּׁמוֹעַ אֶת־הַתּוֹרָ֤ה וְאֶת־הַדְּבָרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר שָׁלַ֜ח יְהוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ בְּרוּח֔וֹ בְּיַ֖ד הַנְּבִיאִ֣ים הָרִֽאשֹׁנִ֑ים וַֽיְהִי֙ קֶ֣צֶף גָּד֔וֹל מֵאֵ֖ת יְהוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֥y ka'ashsher-qara֖ velo֣ shshame֑'u kּe֤n yiqere'u֙ velo֣ 'eshshema֔ 'ama֖r yehva֥h tzeba'ֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Therefore it is come to pass, that as He cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear," says the LORD of hosts:

וַיְהִ֥י כַאֲשֶׁר־קָרָ֖א וְלֹ֣א שָׁמֵ֑עוּ כֵּ֤ן יִקְרְאוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א אֶשְׁמָ֔ע אָמַ֖ר יְהוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'e֣sa'are֗m 'a֤l kּal-hagּoyim֙ 'ashshe֣r loֽ'-yeda'֔um veha'a֨retz֙ nashsha֣mּah 'aֽchareyhe֔m meֽ'obe֖r umishshּa֑b vayּashsi֥ymu 'eֽretz-chemedּa֖h leshshamּaֽh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)"But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate."

וְאֵ֣סָעֲרֵ֗ם עַ֤ל כָּל־הַגּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־יְדָע֔וּם וְהָאָ֨רֶץ֙ נָשַׁ֣מָּה אַֽחֲרֵיהֶ֔ם מֵֽעֹבֵ֖ר וּמִשָּׁ֑ב וַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּ אֶֽרֶץ־חֶמְדָּ֖ה לְשַׁמָּֽה׃פ
